This will leave virtually nobody worth anything out. That's the point. It's not being limited to the best 25 of each franchise...the Twins/Senators roster, for example, has more than 70 players, and will probably see a few more added. Each franchise will have at least 50 guys. Plus a draft list of 200+ negro leaguers and Japanese all stars. So if you can find someone who I leave out who is worthy, feel free to let me know and I will develop ratings for that player.

Sounds good.

Are all the players going to be the same starting age?And i was wondering what you are using for the players stats, his best yr in the majors,or a career average? Any update on when this will be available?

Regrettably held up the last couple of days by technical issues, but back at work on it. I'm converting the stats calculations to ratings for the 10 teams of hitters I have done before moving on to the next batch of teams.

Still have an issue with some guys having career stats from the start that I need to remedy before I start in-game editing. But there's plenty more for me to do calculation-wise before I get to that anyway.

OK, keeping in mind nothing has been entered into the game yet, we currently stand at:

Hitting Ratings: Compiled for 15 teams (updated 6/13)

Fielding Ratings: Compiled for ALL teams

Pitching Ratings: Yet to be compiled

Well I fixed the issue of guys having career stats from the start...I had never deleted retired.dat even after I reset the league...so those guys who retired showed up with stats on the import. So that's fixed.

Back to the hitting sheets.

Hitting sheets now done for 15 franchises. July 1 was ambitious...July 15th for v1 is a bit more realistic. I don't want to release without having the pitchers done as well. That would make no sense.

Just as well, as the game definitely has some issues it needs to address.

I should have a much better idea for release date next weekend. Most of Saturday I will have to myself and will be entering ratings. So that will tell me how long it will take per team, etc., so that will give me a better idea. I'm guessing v1 sometime in mid-July, but I'll know better next week.

Just curious, how come you didn't put out a MLB roster set this year? I loved your previous one and we could definitely use one right now. Looking forward to this set though, it sounds like a lot of fun.

Thanks for the compliment. The reason is time, basically. To do things in the depth and detail I did Totalminors takes a lot of time that, frankly, I don't have right now. This project is moving well, but my wife is expecting and I have 2 young boys at home, plus added responsibilities at work. So lots of things pull in different directions. I couldn't commit to something I view as time sensitive such as an Opening Day roster set. It would have been August potentially by the time I would have completed it.

Glad you enjoyed Totalminors, though. Hope this one pleases as well.

I'm sure it will. Funny thing was that I had actually thought this would be a real fun way to play with the best of each roster. I used to setup teams like this in the old Earl Weaver days.

Just out of curiosity how many total players will you have on the roster set and what criteria are you using for a player to make it in,thanks.

Total players: Not definitive yet. Each franchise should have at least 50, so that's 1400. Plus at least 200 from the Negro Leagues and Japan for the first amateur draft. You'll probably end up with more 1700 when all is said and done.

Criteria: This project has basically evolved...I first did it with APBA Baseball for Windows. I started threads in newsgroups for each team just to spark discussion, and put guys in who those fans said should be on all-time teams. Then I did my own research and added guys, then I added from the Bill James Historical Baseball Abstract, then I pieced together guys from the top lists in the franchise's history in case I missed a few guys.

I wanted it based on having played at least part of 3 years with a team. Players who could have gone on multiple teams went where they played the most games. But if a guy would start on one team and be third string on another, in some cases I let them go to that second team. When it's all done I will try to note in the readme some of these guys who were placed on teams that differ from what the "criteria" would dictate.

Update 6/21:

Hitting Ratings: Compiled for 17 teams, 10 have been entered into game

Fielding Ratings: Compiled for ALL teams

Pitching Ratings: Yet to be compiled

I would like to have those 17 teams' hitting ratings and half the fielding ratings entered by the end of the weekend. Hopefully I'll hit that target.

I'm going to have to rework defensive ratings a bit because of the new way fielding ratings are handled compared with 6.5. But there are game issues with the defensive ratings, so I'm going to let that go for now. Instead I'll be moving ahead with hitting ratings and trying to develop the pitcher ratings as well.

Been slowed up a bit by trying to work out defensive ratings. I liked what I formulated inititally, but after further tinkering with the game I'm still reworking them. So I haven't even started pitchers yet.

I'm not going to give a timeline anymore. Nobody else's fault, just that I'm not going to rush it and set myself a date I don't know if I can hit.

Trust me, though. This will be a very detailed and polished (not to mention, FUN!) set to play with when it's all said and done.

I'm temporarily delayed as I work on a chart that will show how the fielding ratings in the game are calculated. I know how I want guys rated, but I need to mess with the game and figure out the in-game ratings calculations to make sure I get them that way. When it's done I will release the fielding ratings chart just as I did the hitting ratings chart when the game first came out.

Will Pedro Martinez be on both the Mets and Red Sox's? If yes will he have a 2 different Photo's one for the Red Sox and one for the Mets?
How about 100 guys then everybody's farm teams would have 25 guys?

No. Pedro belongs to the Sox.

100 guys is totally impractical, for many reasons.
