Other than thatm, great job.

would also like to see mickey mcdermott in red sox
Fisk played more games for the White Sox, hence the decision. Speaker played almost 500 more games for the Indians than the Red Sox. Easy decision there. Mays, however, should go to the Red Sox. I'll make that change. But absolutely no possible way Cicotte belongs to the Red Sox over the White Sox. Not even remotely close by any objective measure.

Collins will also be added. McDermott really wasn't particularly good, though he could certainly be added. I'll keep him in mind when I do final adds.

Pendleton is in the set as a Brave now but will be moved (I'll be reviewing guys who should be moved to different teams before release, so anybody you see certainly point out. Oddly, Cardinals fans who responded when I initially polled didn't pick Pendleton...but if he's in the set he certainly rates more there than in Atlanta, despite the MVP award.

Pujols will absolutely be added when I update guys as of the past three years. I posted this a bit earlier in the thread. He's in line to be added, trust me.

I thought I had Coleman in the minors for the Cards. If not, I'll be sure to add.

Stuff like that is fine. Ratings stuff I don't want to hear about now because they aren't done. But personnel stuff, absolutely. It's why I was glad to post the rosters.

Yea glad to hear about Albert, and Sorry If missed Coleman. Yea I would agree about Pendleton deserving to be a Cardinal. He was a very valueable member of some good teams. Him, Ozzie, and Tommy Herr made up a very solid INF

You were right on Coleman. He's not in. I'll add him.

Thanks for including Dave Righetti! That'll be some bullpen to play with - Lyle, Righetti and Stanton from the left side, Rivera and Goose from the right side. I can't wait!

I'm basically going to work off 1000 PAs I think. Wright and Reyes for the Mets, Pujols for the Cards, Miguel Cabrera...those kind of guys will slip in I think.

okay then --- Kiner and Kendall for the Pirates need to be added (spanky Laviellier can't be on there) and Kiner has to be on there;

Both are on the AAA roster. Once all the ratings are complete and the computer manager is rerun, that will likely not be the case, but they weren't omitted.

Lavalliere will still be there, but certainly I would think Kendall will be bumped up and Lavalliere will go to AAA. I'm not sure either starts over Sanguillen anyway, at least not at the start of things.

No problem. Most squads have full ML and AAA levels of real guys. Some have a few real guys on AA too. But since virtually every franchise already has 50+ guys done, ML and AAA should be 95% stocked.

Keeping on plugging along. There's plenty to do (I haven't even dealt with pitchers yet) but the good news is that the data entry into the game goes very quickly. So though my time is limited, there's still enough to be at least a little productive each day.

The first version's big problem, in retrospect, was my universal aging curve. If you imported at 26-28 or so, you were at peak. If you were 22, you were well off that. If you 36, you were way on the downside. This is true in many cases, but not all (and particularly when you're compiling all-time greats, many of whom were at least very good early on and maintained that late). This mechanism sabotaged a lot of guys (and made current players even approaching their real-life peaks a very limited occurence.

My revised methods eliminate this, and it's working out great. I really like what I'm seeing, and it creates some fascinating scenarios. For example, though potentials and overall ratings for Hank Greenberg are better, both Rudy York and Norm Cash open up with stellar ratings in their own right. Greenberg actually is behind them on the depth chart. Will that last? Probably not, but I think it's very interesting. Occurences like that are by NO means common, but they do come up. If a guy imports at age 24, and he happened to be stud that year, he could well get a starting job at the beginning over a player who, for the course of their careers, was better. Whether he holds that is another story.

There are a few players who get the advantage of having been excellent in the year of their import, and had some excellent peak numbers after that, even if their careers weren't so great. Gregg Jefferies is an example of a guy whose ratings will probably be a bit better than most should think they should be. But he was excellent in the year of his import age, and had enough good numbers after that this his potentials remain high, so he may not drop from that start. I don't think there's a perfect way to handle this all, but I do think these issues are far less intrusive (and occur far less often) than the issues of my original version.

If I revise this next year, I will base potentials on the three best figures rather than the simple best in each category. That should mute the aforemention issue a bit. But I'm too far along with constructing hitting ratings this year to go back and change it now.

This is where I'm curious about the new game's A.I. Phillies have 23 year old Mike Schmidt at 3B, and have an 18-year-old Scott Rolen coming up. Do you trade Rolen for help elsewhere (perhaps a big outfield bat or a second baseman)? Or do you keep him around. You could also trade Schmidt instead, who would surely bring a large reward, but I would think Rolen would be the guy to go.

These are the scenarios I like with this set. Hopefully with the new ratings, that will help dealings be logical.

Looking Forward

GForce,
I can't tell you how much I am looking forward to this roster set. I really can't wait to play with Mariners and the Blue Jays, even though with their short histories I'm sure they won't be able to compete with the Yankees of the world. This is a really cool idea. I can't wait to see the finished product.

The Mariners and Blue Jays...good luck Glad you're looking forward to it. Still a lot of work to do, but I'm moving along at a decent clip now. Hopefully I can keep that up. Everything will depend on how long it takes me to get the pitchers ratings where I want them.
