I'm looking forward to the Guidokid terse, angry, punctuation-free database.

Just from what i've seen so far, there are a few (don't remember) pre 1900 Duplicates, with Paren(thesis In both of their names.

Also Ruth (Batter Ruth) and Joe Jackson don't have OF ratings.

I don't show any dupes in the file. Could you tell me who was duplicated.

There are parentheses in the name file that shouldn't be there, I will fix the master. It should not affect game play though -- since it is a text field, it is just like a misspelling.

Ruth and Jackson should have ratings, the DB shows fielding and fieldingOF records for them. Not sure why that happened to you.

great DB... thanks!

found a few typos on some names so far (noticed their photos weren't being pulled from my face-pack I added in).... running a historical sim starting in 1903:

Mordecai Brown is missing the "i" in his first name
Clarence Currie is missing the last "e" in his first name
Ossee Schreckengost is missing the "st" at the end of his last name.

nothing that couldn't be quickly fixed with the in-game editor, so it's ultra-minor stuff...

Sorry for my ignorance here, but what exactly is the difference between this DB and the Lahman DB? As I've said in another thread or two, my issue with these DBs is that if I want to start a historical sim starting fairly recently (past three or four years), a lot of the younger players that are stars or are on the verge of being stars won't amount to anything because of the potential ratings. Does this DB fix that?

You can read the readme file for all the changes made to Lahman to make our DB.
Your problem though is not a DB issue. Ratings are based on player's statistical record. If a young, active player is becoming a star in 2006, that isn't reflected in his stats through 2005, so his ratings don't reflect that fact. Pujols is a stud because his stats make him so. If a rookie had a great 2005, then his ratings will reflect that. But, the DB is not a crystal ball nor is OOTP. The game takes information to simulate baseball outcomes. If what is fed to it is an average players stats, then you should expect average results. The talent ratings are just based on what a player did for his career or remaining career at time of import, so you should see progression for good players and digression for those whose careers were on decline...with a little randomness thrown in, which is what makes the game great.

I'm a rookie in regards to this kind of thing.. how do I actually use this to get real names into my OOTP 2006 game? What folder do I put it in and stuff?

I would create a unique directory called something like: Arod23GarlonDB2006. This is to differentiate it from other DBs you may want to use. Here is a post with the steps:

How To Start A Historical League Using Lahman

This database is by FAR the best one to use for OOTP2006. Using anything else would be a huge mistake. I will be using this as the base for my upcoming 1987 league file and again I can't say enough good things about this database in terms of how it relates to OOTP2006.

Loading 2005. Why does Barry Bonds have 723 home runs? It's givcing him 53 in 1994 and 37 in 1995. hea ctually had 37/33 respectively.

All years have been adjusted to 162 games. Those were strike years, so his season totals have been increased (and all the other players those years). Note, the ratios are the same and that is how OOTP determines ratings. That is, there is no difference in power between a hitter with 50 HRs in 500 ABs and a hitter with 25 HRs in 250 ABs.

Thanks for the compliments Cowboys (and everyone else too). We have a few minor fixes that we have to do, but we are waiting on the patch to see how things are affected.
Players are showing up without positions, like Babe Ruth comes in without OF ratings, some pitchers come in without a role, and a few other things. We have determined that these are not DB issues (ours or any other DB) but OOTP's logic.

It appears to me that only the first seven letters of the first name get imported. I had similar trouble with "Vladimi" Guerrero.

Excellent database otherwise, though!

I would think, thats to keep the file size small so you could edit it with notepad.
( i added some of Fidel Montoya's Japan players to the database, something i could not do easily with the original Lahman files)

Great database guys!!!! Has worked quite well in my test seasons (1937-54). Getting ready to test 1911-21 before i dig into re-playing a new baseball history.

if you want minor leagues, you'll need to add them in during the initial setup... (there's a button on the lower right part of the screen that will let you add in AAA, AA, A, etc..)

just be warned, that the game will fill the minor league rosters with fictional players, so your historic league will have real and fictional players mixed in.

I certainly hope not. The extra character or two on the end of each name is not going to baloon the file size that much!

There should definitely be an option to create empty leagues. For now, though, I'm happily using the reserve list, which is an ingenious method.

Something happened with the name file, the end letters for some names are truncated. I will fix this.
