How do I make a roster with players from different years?

Hi,
Newbie here. Want to know how can I create a new league and import players from different years using the lahman's database and also their pictures too? I'd love to have a league where I can mix and match stars from all eras.

If anyone can help, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

I guess there's more than one way to do this, but the obvious one to me is to go to the league's transactions => free agency page and I think there's an import function there.
