Calling all Cuban and Japanese Experts

if anyone knows where to find up to date rosters, I am willing to start working on pic packs for them since I assume someone will create roster sets for them eventually

Myself and a friend have been working on a Japanese set for over a week now (hopefully will be done in a little over a week). A pic pack would be a great addition.

Current (finished) Cuban season rosters:

Not sure how up-to-date that is, though. But yes, slowly working on a roster set.

Would it be possible to combine Cubby's MLB roster set project with the Japanese and Cuba league files?

It is possible, and that is what we are attempting to do

ozziethesaint,

I don't know how you photo-gathering project is going but Xenimus0 has an NPB photo pack at f.montoya's site. Unfortunatly, they are not named. Also, the Sponichi Meikan has pictures for every NPB player. The pictures are 240x320 so they when resized to 90 pixels in height you will end up with 15 blank pixels at the bottom of the image or if resized to 135 pixels in height the picture will be ~11 pixels to wide. Either something will be needed to be added at the bottom of the page (surname in English or kanji/katakana?) or 5 pixels will have to be cropped from either side of the resized image.

Those are the current rosters. The Cuban league starts in the fall and runs through late spring. Since there is no free agency or trading, there will be very little turnover--maybe 3-4 players at most.

Herd Fan, any idea where I could find some biographical information about Cuban players? I know "all defectors are younger than they actually are" and that data may be difficult to find. I'm at a crossroads with this void.

Not exactly. There is speculation about some players like El Duque that they are older than reported so that they can play longer. An owner or GM is more likely to shell out money for a 35 year old than a 37 year old

I think that's exactly what he was getting at.

Unfortunately post-revolutionary birth data is almost impossible to find; you have to take the Cuban government at its word, which we all know is not the best path to the truth.

Without the birthdates, I am wondering if making a historical database (2000-2006) is actually worth it. My assumption would be that not many people here or in general would actually know who these players are to "care" about their stats, age, etc so that player development can be utilized, if I should arbitrarily assign player ages. Otherwise, most if not all the baseball stats are available but would just seem easier to set up with fictional players. Any suggestions?
