I recently downloaded this template and I have to say that I am enjoying OOTP much better now. I have a couple of questions that I hope boardmembers could answer.
1. League Total modifiers - I simmed 2 seasons after downloading the template but I was getting low league leader HR and pitcher strikeouts. For example, in a 154 game season the league leader for HRs averaged 27 HRs, and for pitcher strikouts the leader had less than 180. I noticed that the modifiers to the league totals, located in the league setup tab, had HR totals modified to approximately .500 and strikouts to approximately .600. At the start of the next season, I adjusted these modifiers up to .900 for HRs and .750 for strikeouts and got the league leader output I was looking for (about 6 to 8 players with 40+ HRs and 8-10 pitchers with 200+ strikeouts). However, when I simmed the following season, the stats were low for the league leaders again. I checked the modifiers and they returned to the original setup. Can I only change the modifiers and have them stay constant year after year before I start a new game? For me to get the stats that I am looking for, the only fix for me right now is to change the modifiers at the start of each season, is this right?2. Expansion - Regardless of the stat output problem, I intend to keep using this template and after each 10 year interval of simming begin to add addditional teams to the MLs to eventually reach a 36 team major league. Any advice on how to do this without screwing up the stats that are generated each year. Do I need to modify or adjust the league totals when adding new teams to the league? Also, is it possible to add a new league to the universe after simming several seasons? I have been thinking about adding the Japanese League after several years of simming. Any thoughts and advice are very much appreciated. Thanks. |

If you do not uncheck it than it will recalculate league totals to try to mimic the corresponding real life season. Unckecing it will allow your changes to the league settings to remain until you manually adjust them again. Hope that solves your problem. If so, remember to uncheck it for each league you want to change the settings for. Personally, I liked the lower home run totals but it is just a matter of personal preference. The nice thing with the game is we can each customize our league the way we prefer to play.

I really enjoy the set-up of this template, thanks again Tiger Fan for a great job and your sharing it with us. That said, I have a question, what is an easy way to have historical players begin to show up in the player draft pools. I don't really care that my initial league is full of fictitious players, but I think it would be fun to have real players from the 20's, 30's etc., begin to show up in my draft pools and begin to work their way up to the Majors. I apologize if this is a dumb question, but I'm just getting started with adding mods, etc.

With the Lahman database--or one of the edited versions--you could have it import rookies for a draft, but you'd have to have them import into one league's draft, rather than spread out. You would also likely need to supplement them with fictional players if you were importing them into the PCL or MLB (since they have a minors system which there wouldn't be enough rookies per year to fill with Lahman.)

Carplos, thanks for the hint, would it be possible to have Lahman import into MLB one year and then into the PCL the next, so as to spread out the talent a bit?

After playing around with this, I realize that you need to tweak the service days for one service year for it to work right. For example, the Eastern Semi-Pro League has service days for one service year set to 172, yet the league only plays an 84 games schedule. If you want players to be eligible for free agency after two years, then you need to lower the minimum service days appropriately, otherwise players will be captive for 3-4 years when you want them done after 2. The same holds true for other leagues as well.
Here are the appropriate service days, starting at the top: Major League: 168 Pacific Coast League: 167 Southern Semi-Pro League: 167 Mexican League: 167 Canadian League: 153 Eastern Semi-Pro League: 91 Cheers. |

Running out of players
I started playing with this template yesterday. I think it's wonderful work and I'm having a great time with it.
But, after ten years of simming, it stopped and told me that the Newport team had no pitchers. I went to the Transactions page to add some free agents to Newport, and found that there were no free agents. There were literally zero. Has anyone else had this problem, and what can be done about it? Thanks. |

Were you using default aging and default modifiers in your league or did you change them also?

The problem is caused by an issue in the latest patch. There is a workaround here:
draft scheduling messed up
