Importing Cubby's rosters in Icy's template

So maybe there's an easier way to do this but I've been playing around with some various methods tonight and uncovered some bugs that seem to prevent this from being an easy task so I thought I'd share with you all how I did this. This is a way for people to get real rosters in a 2007 created game.

PART 1 - Get roster files
1. Get the roster set you want to use like Cubby's latest Beta 2007 one.

2. Use the 2006 import to open it up in 2007.

3. Go to Game Setup >> League Setup >> Import/Export. Click on "Export Rosters" and "Export Stats". This will create 4 txt files in the .lg folder your new 2007 game just created. Save these files somewhere. You may want to back them up for future use.

PART 2 - Create new game
1. Start up the creation wizard and use Icy's template.

2. Make a human manager that is a commissioner.

3. Make sure you TURN OFF the inaugural draft. If you want one you can do that later with the real rosters.

4. Go to advanced if you want to change other settings. When done create the game.

5. Take those 4 txt files you created in the 2006 converted league and copy them over to your new .lg league folder.

6. Go to Game Setup >> League Setup >> Functions. Click on "Release all Players/Clear Rosters". This should put everyone in the free agent pool.

7. Go to Game Setup >> League Setup >> Import/Export. Click on "Import Rosters". Browse to you .lg folder and look for a mlb_rosters.txt file in there. Select that and import it. It should import all real players onto their real teams and rate them correctly.

8. Go to your free agent pool and click "Delete all Free Agents". This will get rid of all those pesky fictional players. Unfortunately this will also delete any of the real players Cubby had in his free agent pool. I'm not sure how to get around this right now.

9. At this point you can go back into Game Setup and hold an inaugural draft, import stats, or whatever you want. It's your game, play it your way.

I hope that helps some people out. It's 1:20am right now for me so there's probably a much easier way out there to do this stuff but my mind shut down a few hours ago.

I would upload a quick start of the finished product but I don't have the permissions of the original authors of the template and rosters. Hopefully the instructions aren't too confusing.

Could you swap round 7 and 8 to not delete the real players from FA? Thanks for this guide by the way, was trying to do this last night and twice got to opening day only for a crash. Hope this will work.

P.S Hate sounding stupid but when using the template, how do i turn the inaugral draft off?

This might work. I'm going to try it now.

Nope. At least I couldn't get it to work in the dozen times I tried. That's what was driving me nuts last night. If you delete all your fictional players then when you import the roster it doesn't really go into the database for some reason. When you go to "Database Info" the number of players doesn't change and if you search for guys they don't show up anywhere in the game. However if you go to their team they will show up under there. It's like they are in some sort of purgatory. They are in the game but not in the actual database or something. It's VERY strange and I don't understand why it does this. Really frustrating. I did log this under tech support, but nobody has offered any advice yet.

Importing Roster Issue

There are no stupid questions. Everyone knows I've asked my fair share! I don't have the game in front of me but before you actually start your game I think you can click on your Major League and go under the rules or options tab and it's one of the first checkboxes under one of those tabs. Sorry I'm at work right now so I can't check exactly.

I hope this works out for you. Hopefully it will save you from the many frustrating hours I had last night.

Heres what I did

I downloaded Cubbys Beta rosters and imported them into a new league

I copied all the .dat files from the new league i created and put them into the FictionalMLB2007.Quick Folder

Then I created a new game using the quickstart.

Seems to have worked great. I have MLB players, all the coaches, etc. and its 1/1/2007

Serious? Dang that is about 100 times easier then my route. I actually tried that last night (copying the .dat files), but somehow it crashed my game. So bad I actually couldn't open OOTP anymore so I figured copying the dat files were out of the question. My crash must have been something else then. If copying the dat files work, that might be the best because you'll have the correct free agents. Anyone see any down side of this?

There has to be a way around this. There are some key guys that are FAs in Cubby's rosters (Clemens, Zito, Floyd, Suppan, etc.). What I've been doing is importing Cubby's, signing the important guys to any team, then I'll continue.

Well, thats the good thing about the "meet demands" button. What I did was this.....

1. Start a new league with Cubby's rosters
2. Set all teams to be controlled by me (no AI)
3. Signed all important FAs to any team

Then I started with step 3 in the original post. This way the important FAs will make it through. Unfortunately, they'll be on the wrong team, unless you take the time to put each player on the correct team with the correct contract. I didn't care about this because I'm going to do a draft.

One thing I noticed....

Ethnicities are way off. The jersey's need some work (minor changes), but the FaceGen pics aren't so hot. You have to manually change most guys' ethnicity to get a somewhat accurate picture. I was quite surprised when I opened Chris Carpenter's player profile and saw Dr. J looking at me...

Yea that's seems like the only option so far for the free agents but you'd have to know all the free agents in cubby's and move them to a team which as you said can be quite time consuming.

And I noticed the same thing as you with facegen. I had a few good laughs with some of the completely wrong looking pics. Sounds some new rosters are on the horizon so I'll probably just hold out for a bit longer to see what those bring to the table. Sounds very promising.

I don't have any problem with you using my template to create and release your quickstart (it would be nice if you mention me in the credits), i just shared my work for everybody to enjoy it.

This process doesn't seem to work for me based solely on the fact that importing players doesn't keep their contracts intact.

Yeah, can someone just upload it pre-done? I have gone through all the steps, but don't know what I'm doing, obviously not doing it right, because it won't ever work.

I have no problem uploading my quickstart (starting 1/1/2007) combining Icy and CubbyFan's work and of course giving them credit, but I would just need CubbyFan's permission. If he says yes I'll throw it up somewhere.

Also, I believe a new roster set is coming out Sunday. This might have what everyone is craving. Read this thread for more info:
