Fictional Quickstart: Global Baseball Alliance
Inspired by last year's World Baseball Classic, as well as similar projects by community members RMc and APujols5 (among others), I decided to whip up a little fictional baseball league involving teams from around the world. I'm sharing it as a quickstart in case anyone else is interested. It includes 28 teams, with custom flag-based logos and uniforms.
Like the Classic, each country gets a team, which is located in that country's largest city (based on OOTP's City Size database). Each major team also gets four farm teams: AAA, AA, A, and a Rookie team. Countries were selected based on their current level of baseball competitiveness, and generally only those countries with an active baseball program were selected--though a few additional large market teams with sparse baseball interest also made the cut. Team nicknames were based on information gathered from wikipedia--I tried to select positive national symbols (current or historical). Team market size was determined by a combination of country population size and GDP (China, India, and USA are highest, while Nicaragua and Panama are lowest). Fan loyalty and fan interest were determined by the quality of baseball programs in that country (based on ootp 2006 database), with a small adjustment based on performance in the World Baseball Classic last spring (Japan and Cuba have the highest fan interest, while Honduras, India, North Korea, and the Philippines have the lowest interest). I'm happy to share my spreadsheet to anyone that is interested. Other details can be found in the readme. I began this project last August, but got frustrated with OOTP 2006 and eventually stopped playing while I waited for the next version. With the release of 2007, I'm pleased to finally complete this and look forward to playing in this league for a long time. If you enjoy this quickstart, please drop me a line either in the OOTP thread or via e-mail. I'd love to hear about what happens in your league. It hosted at PadresFan's OOTP Mod Site. A sampling of some of the custom content (some uniform elements borrowed from fhomess's excellent WBC pack): ![]() Last edited by JinAZ : 03-25-2007 at 06:03 PM. Reason: Added host link |

I'm simming in 2010 right now and everything seems to be working well. I forgot to manually adjust the media contracts to be identical, but once they run out (2-3 years) they all switch to being equal. You folks can edit them if you want. I'm going to sim for 10 years and then start playing--I like to have some history before I take over a team.
First year surprise champion in my sim: the Honduras Mules--the team with the the worst combination of market size and fan interest! Unfortunately, they finished the year in the red despite their success. Right now it's 3 years later. The Dominican Republic Hurricanes just won it all (Honduras predictably finished last in the Central American Division...). -j Last edited by JinAZ : 03-25-2007 at 03:00 AM. |

Hmm, no, I just tried it and it worked fine. ... I'm hosting via my google pages account. Not sure if it has any sort of download cap or something..? Edit: If you have another way to send it your way, I'll be happy to do that. I've never tried hosting largeish files on the google pages server before. Maybe it's not cut out for that. -j Last edited by JinAZ : 03-25-2007 at 03:02 AM. |

Thanks for this Quickstart, it's all looking very impressive. I'm only playing it with the 07 demo right now and am managing every game, but I expect I'll get to the end of the demo and want to buy the thing just to continue this league.

![]() I simmed through 2016 last night and then signed on as a manager with Colombia's single-A team in June of 2017 (first job that was available!). I didn't spend much time on the minors aside from assigning countries and cities, but I'm using it as a chance to reorient myself to the basic manager & in-game functions. I'm playing a game a week or so just to have some fun. Hopefully I'll be able to land a MLB job at the end of the single-A season. -j |

Just tried it again... Keeps stopping about halfway through... If you could just use "yousendit.com" and e-mail it to me at sixwilsons at mac.com, that would be much appreciated....

I taking this League and turn it into World Series Teams Winners League.
So far have 03/97 Marlins,89 A's,2000 Diamondbacks,2002 Angels,04 Red Sox and 05 White Sox and 06 Cardinals but their Rosters are blank because they got failed when I tryed to import those teams. Also have Added Orlando Tropicals and Las Vegas Casino's as Expansion Teams. Iv'e tryed it out so far with Injures being very high and it looks good so far. I would like to have it done by tomorrow so if you can think of a World Series Winner like 86 Mets or so on that I should add just post it here so I can get in the League. I want to get done all at once so I don't have to keep loading and saving my Quickstart to try it out because every time you exit the game it wants to save and I don't want to save it.

Interesting. You can just save it as a regular game and then create a new quicksave at a later time. At least, that's what I did as I was making mine. Have fun... -j |

I really just want to start a blank league with no teams and add from 1979 to 2004 World Series Winners because if I remove one of the existing teams in your League the Minor League teams become Unafflicated and I don't want that to happen and I just want to replace the MLB with a World Series Winner and move the existing Players and Pitchers on the MLB team to the Minors.
So you know 05 and 06 Teams can't be imported because you get imported Failed. I know I can do that but theirs no Save As meaning I can't not try it out to see if I like it. Also when you import a team only that team gets imported and not all it's Minor League teams from that year and they should then the Minor League teams would be real and have the rest of Players and Pitchers that were in that teams Farm system and also the real Personal isn't their to from the the team that we import. Also would like to do Rosters from Baseball Movies and one that has Michael Jordan,Danny Ainge,Kevin Johnson and so on on it. Are you going to in the future put the real Players/Pitchers/Personal on these teams as they were in the World Baseball Classic?

I like the file so far. However, I'm having problems with some of the uniforms. I am currently managing the (R) Philadelphia Phillies. The uniforms were off, but when I went into the editor, they were fixed. I didn't have to do anything to the USA unis. The Houston unis are giving me issues. I try loading the "Jersey", but it just loads the one you see below.

As far as your question...have you hit "regenerate jersey" yet? I find that even after loading an appropriate jersey logo, I can only get it to update the jersey texture if I hit the regenerate button. Not sure if this will help or not...I'm really quite a novice when it comes to customization. -jLast edited by JinAZ : 03-27-2007 at 02:53 PM. Reason: grammar |

Suggestions for expansion teams?
I just received an e-mail from someone who is enjoying this quicksave. They mentioned that they're considering doing an expansion at some point to include Great Britain and Haiti.
I thought this was a really cool idea, and was wondering if you folks had ideas for other countries that might make good expansion candidates. My thought was that I could put together an "expansion pack" of sorts that would include logos, jersies, city names, and recommended financial settings (market size and loyalty, determine those based on GDP, population size, and quality of baseball programs reported in the ootp database). I could put this together for about 6 teams, and users could decide which teams they want to add when they feel it's time for an expansion. Here are the current leagues, divisions, and teams: Transpacific League -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Eastern Division ----------------- China Dragons Chinese Taipei Lions Japan Samurai South Korea Hallyu North Korea Stars Oceanic Division ------------------ Australia Wombats South Africa Unity Philippines Pearls India Tigers South American Division ------------------ Colombia Oros Brazil Jaguars Argentina Tango Chile Condors Venezuela Pirates Transatlantic League -=-=-=--=-=-=-=-=- Caribbean Division --------------------- Cuba Industriales Dominican Republic Hurricanes Puerto Rico Coquis Panama Kunas Mexico Diablos Central American ------------------ Guatemala Mayans Costa Rica Anteaters El Salvador Saints Nicaragua Rum Runners Honduras Mules Western Division ------------------- Italy Bulls Netherlands Klompen United States Patriots Canada Grizzlies Are there any countries that you folks would like to see added? |

That's an interesting set. ![]() Ok, so current ideas for expansion teams, along with the division they'd probably fit best in, include: Cameroon - Transpacific Oceanic or Transatlantic Western Ethiopia - Transpacific Oceanic Great Britain - Transatlantic Western Haiti - Transatlantic Carribean Nigeria - Transpacific Oceanic or Transatlantic Western I suppose if one wanted to add several of the African teams, one could do a substantial realignment to put them all in the same division. I'd have to think on how that might work. Maybe join them with the European teams? I also just saw this blog entry on the upcoming Israel Baseball League: http://globalbaseball.wordpress.com/...l-league-info/ ..So I think I'll add Israel (Transpacific Oceanic?) to the list. Any other ideas? Not sure when I'll get the expansion pack done, but I'll post here when I do. -j |
