That would seem like a reasonable solution, but it never is enough. Let's face the truth here, some people are DUMB and would ignore the "Incomplete" next to the file name. They would then start kicking and screaming about how the file isn't complete, and "this and that is wrong", and "Why isn't (insert favorite player name) rated better?" In the end, the roster makers, who put tons of their own time into a mod for everyone and for FREE, don't want to put up with all the B.S. until they are satisified with the end product. So they wait until it is finished to release it.

And, it is nearly impossible to delegate work to others as you can't merge the files. The only work that can be delegated is research into current rosters and correct player bio's, the little stuff.

Yeah I agree starting in 1958 when Ted Williams was still active and before Yaz came in has helped .. I seem to know a lot of the names and the ones I don't I love having the real life stats right there on the player card.

I know down in TBCB I started in 1901 and am loving it. So maybe the historical will grow on my here to. The main thing I can't do is start a purely fictional league.

Im having fun with Cheif Sockalexis (i started a fictional league in 1860 that brought in real players in 1871). The chief has a .342 BA (over 8 years) and 3 Batter of the Year awards. (The real chief only lasted 3 years). Looking forward to 1905 and what he will do.

Your using past stats for your current player profiles........or are you updating players rotisserie style.
Yesterday a 'current' roster included Kenny Rogers, today i guess he's off........
Rocket Roger's not hurt - he could pitch, but he's not signed. When is he 'current'.

Sorry to be a bit off topic, but to me 'current' of OOTP is the day the last season finished.

This is the reason I've been completely converted to the fictional world of my dreams. No pre-conceived notions, and just plain fun is all that it is. This is a big reason why, when I create uniforms, I mostly like to stick with fictional so that I don't have to be told that they "should" be this way or that way.

My hat goes off to the roster makers who have been dealt a lot of grief by the impatient few, and to most on this board who have been patiently waiting for the latest rosters. I know you will be happy when you get them!

I second mh2365's reasoning for playing with current rosters. Learning the new draft class every year, is easier than learning an entire league from scratch.

Additionally.
You are given the control of your favorite team, today. That is appealing as many of baseball fans have thought, if I was the GM of "team" I woulda made that trade. Or, if I was the manager I would start "so and so". OOTP allows you to do just what you and your buds/family talk about doing.

Personally, I bought 2006 and could never get into it. It was much more complicated than the previous versions. As far as 2007, I like what I see, but I have alot of trouble getting interested in a fictional league because I still have alot to learn about it. I was working on my own file this past winter spending tons of time getting every player made with correct info for every player down to high A. After learning of the next big thing from Cubby's post, I felt it was wasted time and have since dropped my progress. I still had to rate everyone and get correct salaries, so I was far from done. I am itching to get something, but its hard to get back into it as it will be more wasted work. Baseball America hasn't posted their opening day rosters as of yet and I believe that is what the wait is for among other tweaking.

I personally check back here every five minutes for news and all I see is constant bickering. It would be nice if the bickering would stick to one thread and keep new ones from being created. If its not the game its the rosters. It seems to be an annual event.

To me, it's not about APujols, Erich, or Cubbyfan - anyone can see that the job they are trying to accomplish is a HARD job.

I think what disappoints people the most is the fact that OOTP used to have roster sets literally hours after the game was released; people pretty much bought the game with the knowledge that real rosters were only a click away after purchase.

Now, that is no longer the case - it's not the fault of the roster makers. It's not even really the fault of the game creators; the game became more complex, making rosters became harder, and people weren't getting what they were expecting. Even if the box says "This game doesn't contain real major leaguers", nobody is going to really pay attention to that if past versions had the real thing quickly.

I am like a lot of others; I have tried starting a fictional league from scratch - it's just very hard to get into. It's much more fun watching a Jorge Posada retire and wonder who will be the next Yankees' catcher. And it builds up from there - you get attached to Jorge's replacement, and then start to wonder who will be next in line after him; etc. etc. etc.

So, don't hate the people who are doing this as a side project. Don't hate the programmers who are trying to build a bigger and better game. You have to pretty much put blame on expectations that were raised based on what happened in the past.

This is the exact point I was attempting to make before some people thought I was being too harsh on the roster makers.(which like the above post, I was not) The only reason I later called out AP personally is because it became clear to me he just wasn't acting in a very mature manner, despite what a few bad apples may have had to say.

I have started playing from 1958 and am enjoying more than I used to.

Just wanted to say I never got the arguement that "in 15 years all your players will be fictional anyways" ... it really doesn't make any sense because by that time you will have had 15 years to get to know them. I get lost when I try to start a fictional dynasty, just can't seem to care about the players on my team.

I care about real players and I learn to care about fictional ones I draft .. just don't when I have 50 right off the bat that I have no clue about.
Exactly how I feel. Although, I'm enjoying my own fictional universe. Mainly because I've made every jersey and ball cap so far in Photoshop and I'm working on making unique stadiums now. Plus I'm going through and renaming some of the players and bringing in some retired (yet still relatively young for semi-pro ball) MLBers into the mix. I've really gotten into it.

I thought a releasable file was already done? As in, it was already in the process of being uploaded until a storm took it out.

I've pretty much gave up on the rosters and have started to focus on school with finals coming up and in my free time I play guitar until some rosters show up.
