I have been busy playing Battlefield 2 and also writing a new photo program. How does it work?

A lot of thought has gone into this project.

1st, the program is based on two excellent photo collections, Gambos and WingWright. I like the way WW has laid his out with the years, as it gives much more flexibility for someone like me. Gambos is good to put in the photo section of OOTP and let it automatically grab the photo when the player is launched into the league.

What my program will do, is to combine the best of two worlds and then throw in another world. My world.

1st, you download and put the Gambo collection into the OOTP folder. Then you download WW's collection and put somewhere else. My program contains its own database of every single player that has ever appeared in the game. It also has their debut season and their last season. (Some of this information is missing in the Lahman database, so I use 'todays' date for their last game and for the players still active in MLB).

My program 1st allows you to click on a players name and see all of the photos in the collection of that guy. You can have up to 20 photos per player. For instance, in the SS, you will see Barry Bonds has several pictures in my collection. You can then pick which one you want to use in the Gambo collection. It will copy it to that collection, while backing up the original Gambo. This way also, you can have a picture of a player for each year, with up to 20 years. Some players I have more than one picture of, so I just put them in consecutive order, 1921, 1922, etc.

No of course, you can run my program and it will automatically update the league photos based on the year for your league, much like my previous programs worked. You can also get reports, like missing photo reports, for your league or the collection.

Other things I plan on adding is Google searching for photos, like before and a way to launch the photo in your favorite editor, right from my program.

Mainly, I want this program to unify all of the collections and make a master collection on my server. I want to add the ability for YOU to upload to my server any photos that you want added to the collection.

Here is a screen shot of what I have so far:

one suggestion i would have is to have the ability to search both google, google image and scout.com. those were my top 3 places to search for pics. Oh and possibly MILB.com if they continue to build on the handful of pics they put up last winter

Do you have an idea on when this program will be available?? It looks pretty cool and I would love to try it out b/c sometimes there are players that have similar names and it puts the wrong photo with the wrong player. I.E. let's say you have Joe Blow that played in 1920 and Joe Blow that played in 1980...The 1980 Joe Blow will have the 1920 Joe Blow's picture. I know there's probably a Joe Blow and a Joe G. Blow or something and I would have to go and find out what the player ID is and rename the pic..blah blah blah...I would rather just select it and tell the game to use this pic for this player..That would be cool!

Larry,

Instead of Google, anyway to just launch a mini browser? in the time i have spent looking for pics, Google is actually one of the least efficient ways. Besides the ones I mentioned earlier in this thread, the individual team web sites are probably the best source assuming they are uniquely hosted and not through MiLB.com

Looking forward to this Larry. Also can you tell us where you can get WingWright's collection?

Wow. Really glad to see a utility like this. The problems with player pics and tracking them down and/or fixing them can be so redundant and time consuming - never ending. This is really a good idea.

The program is almost complete. I just have to idiot proof it now.

The documentation may be difficult to write.

Here is a screen shot of what I have so far:

NOTE: The top photo is the collection under the OOTP folder, where it automatically grabs the photos when new players arrive in the historical league. The 'other' photos are from the WW collection (that I have added to)

The idea is to click on the top photo and then select a year on the right and then hit the copy button and it will copy it to that years folder. Same thing the other way around. If you click on one of the year folders then hit copy, it will copy that years picture over to the main OOTP folder.

The problem now is let's say I have a player named Joe Acme. Lets say Joe just played in 1920. But let's say I have more than one photo of him. So you will have to put his 2nd picture in 1921 and his 3rd in 1922, etc. So now I have to have the program modify his entry in the main database so that it shows he played from 1920-1922. While this is wrong, it actually works out pretty cool if you use my program to 'update' the photos. This way, if he played in 1922, he would have a different picture.

I included GOOGLE, AOL and Yahoo image search buttons. I did look at scout.com, but they use a google search there, so you should be able to see the same pictures using the google search.
