2007 Roster Set from Dark Cloud

I'm working on one. The idea is to update the teams rosters to include signings from last off-season. I hope to release it before the weekend is over.

More news in a bit.

Silly question sorry....was you in the military? I was in the military for almost 11 years before I had to get out.

Nope. Attended Pensacola, FL for school many times, though.

i thought this was supposed to be released a couple of weekends ago.
this whole roster situation is turning into a joke. enough to prevent
a purchase by me in the future. and don't tell me to "make my own".
i barely have time to play the game much less take endless hours
making rosters. the game should come with current rosters in some
way, shape or form. other games get around it. just my rant.
i don't mean to offend anybody, much less those that are putting
in the time to do this work. but it shouldn't be necessary.

That's been discussed to death, and there are two reasons.

SI looked into a license for the 2006 version, and it was considered to be cost-prohibitive. The "other games get around it" argument in regards to a license is essentially encouraging SI/Sega to risk a lawsuit from MLB/MLBPA/TakeTwo. Sports Mogul, being a much smaller company, makes a much less likely or appealing target for MLB to make an example of.

Secondly, An MLB license, if it ever came, comes with some pretty severe restrictions, which would kill one of the most beloved features of the game - customizability.

I agree that having a roster set would be great, but it's just a fact of life that the third-parties are doing these in their spare time, and real life takes precedence over it.

My pet peeve, no most of us do not make the rosters, but we kinda get toyed with by some that do..

The intentions are good by all the makers, but when u make rosters how bout do not even post that u r on the "process"

When they are finished then post and only then...

cause weeks go by and months and most of us get frustrated..its a given

Agreed- no personal offense intended- but this roster thing is plumb worn out..Though I admit I NEVER took this particular thread seriously. Nobody at this late stage could embark on a full minors set and finssh before the playoffs- and not have the rosters be a big steaming pile....

Does anyone get the feeling that no one is working on the rosters and a lot of guys are looking for attention on a message board?

blah, blah, yap, yap ... this line is old.

-- MLB lost it's court case with the fantasy company.

-- Companies may freely use ballplayers names and statistics at will. They are public & it's completely legal.

-- The license is not neccessary, so customizability is not effected.

The only thing that would have to be changed is team names & logos (as they ARE property of MLB). But those'd be very easy fixes.

No, they have not lost their court case. They lost at trial, and appealed. The appeal is pending.

It is the gathered legal advice of very well paid real corporate lawyers that ballplayer names and stats, if shipped without a MLB/MLBPA license, is a unacceptable that would destroy OOTP Dev and SI if MLB gets their adverse ruling overturned, and that anyone shipping with this sort of stuff is taking a Very Large Risk.

All of this is true- and yet all of this is completely irrelevant to the topic of rosters THIS year- as SI is clearly not going to be doling out rosters in 2007- which is what most of the people here are concerned about.

Erich is apparently the only option this year- it's him or nobody- and as far as I know he hasn't uttered a peep in over a week.

On the one hand, it would be nice to know we were going to see them sometime in the next few weeks- I honestly thought they would be complete by know based on some the talk....On the other hand- he may have decided not say anything else until they ARE complete...I think this is the tact I would use at this point if I were him...and I gues they'll get done when they're done. Life goes on...

How long before someone asks if we can get them "as is" rather than waiting until they're done?
