HOF Database

OK Roster fans,

I wrote a routine that created a database that JUST contained HOF players. When I almost had the routine wrote, it dawned on me. How many HOF players are there? According to Lahman, there are 224 players.

So, now the question. How many teams would that be in a league? Remember, we have to have enough pitchers to go around equally and we have to have enough players. I think the pitchers could be the problem though.

Would someone help me out here and do the research and see how many teams it would support. I am thinking 8 teams.

I would do it, but I have a bug where only 191 players were pulled into the league, so I am missing 30ish players. I have to find why they were not imported.

Now the good news: It IS going to work once I fix the import bug. The other good news, it imported the negro league players. At least it pulled in Satchael Page. Throw a couple more names at me from before 1901 and I will see if it pulled them in. I am tricking OOTP to pull them in.

Now the fun news: Even though I was missing 30ish players, I decided to go ahead and release them all to FA and let the computer run a fantasy draft. So, who was 1st pick?

Here is the top picks: (In the order that the computer teams picked them)

Don Sutton, Lou Gehrig, Tom Seaver, Babe Ruth, A. Joss, E. Walsh, Nolan Ryan, D. Eckersley, McCovey, Mize, Speaker, Marichal, Mantle, Vance, Ted Williams, Stargell (is he in the HOF?), DiMaggio, Boggs, Cobb, Hornsby, Klein, Joe Morgan, Schmidt, Palmer, Gaylord Perry, Delahanty, Chesbro, Medwick, Musial, Jenkins and Carlton

Going backwards, the last pick to 1st...

Tinker, Schalk, Evers, Schoendienst (is he in HOF?), Bancroft, Brooks Robinson....

Very interesting.... very....

And what a pretty post.. so colorful...

Here's an idea for your database travels. I'd like to have a database that doesn't include players with less than X number of at bats or X number of IP. Any ideas?

Stu - The Arod/Garlon DB does not have any position players with fewer than 130 AB careeror any pichers with fewer than 54 IP career.

We plan to release an updated version of our DB this year.
