Well...that was weird. Came here looking for information on the roster set and find "One Life to Live" played out on the forums. Pretty sad.

Perhaps I can help.

I've been working on some companion info for this roster set. It's not really a big deal as far as playability is concerned, but I think it'll add a little something. However, instead of saying what it is, I figure I'll just let you discover it once you download the rosters (kinda like when Markus slips that little pleasant surprise into a patch that no one's expecting )

Unfortunately, I only began this project a few days ago and, as you know, the set is almost complete. Therefore, I'm a bit behind if I'm gonna get this thing done by the time the set is released.

Sooooo....

If anyone has a little free time this weekend and/or this coming week and would like to be involved in this project, let me know. I'll only need about 3 or 4 people who can devote a total of maybe 10 hours of work each. It's just basic look-up/data-entry stuff, so we're more or less talking grunt work here. (But hey, when you're playing with this roster set in a few weeks, perhaps you'll get an added sense of satisfaction knowing you made a contribution! )

Anyone that's interested, please PRIVATE MESSAGE me on here and I'll let you know the specifics. Thanks!
I could still use another volunteer or two on this project. PM me if you're interested.

My comment was that I had finished the re ordering of players in excel back in April. The set was within a week of being completed back then. That was what I was getting at, not 2 months from hearing from him.

The moral of the story is -
"OOTP without real rosters (from day one) makes for a real dusty unused spot on the hard drive."

QUICK EDIT - and yes it is a FICTIONAL game but honestly, how many people really look forward to it as such?

I used to think so too. And since April I've been going mad without real rosters. Then I finally tried a fictional set and LOVED it...and am loving it. I started with the 16-team quickstart OOTP comes with and took over the Dallas Jets. Man, I'm having a blast. It feels more like they're your players than the real rosters do. Just stick with it and I think you'll come around. I used to hate the idea of fictional rosters.

Hopefully we'll pull together next year.

Of course I say that every year, hence me being a Cubs fan. Hmmm.

I can say that our first release will be out this week, how's that? I think prospects should be done tomorrow, and we'll probably try to brush up as much of the birthdates as possible before the file goes to hb for transactions.

I'm considering fixing the birthdates for MLB only for the first release so that you guys can have it quicker. Would anyone be opposed? Perhaps we could get in some good testing on what the player creation modifiers should be (since the ratings are lower for players already made than what the game generates usually I believe) and league totals and such.

Great news!! I wouldnt be opposed to releasing it with only correct MLB birthdates. Also, definately get some testing in so guys that should suck arent leading the league in statistical categories.

Great news Cubby. And if you need someone that can work on editing BDays in excel let me know, I have a job where I am at a computer all day.

Agreed -- I'm still planning on a test sim on Wednesday that I'll post here so you guys can check stats. Perhaps we can even test it out so that we can do some league total changing in the minors (I remember minor league stats ALWAYS being awful as far as totals, teams batting .205, etc.)

PETCOTA is really on for some guys (the stat projection system I base ratings on) but can really fall in love with some guys and overinflate ratings (Kelly Johnson comes to mind). Some of those guys obviously will have to get changed.

Now that you mention it, I hadn't thought about it, but there could be a way to edit birthdates in an excel format and re-import, I imagine this would save a LOOOOT of time. Let me check when I get back home tonight and I'll let you know.

If that's the case, we could all technically split up a file and knock it out much quicker. I'm not sure if it's an exportable/importable function though.

Yeah that would be the quickest way to edit those. You could probably do it in one shot if they are all 1 year off. You would just need to copy the birthdates to a new sheet, set them in a particular format and possibly run a function to increase them by one year. If that doesn't work, I can handle the grunt work of manually changing them . But that would be much quicker than doing them in the game. With 3 or 4 men working on this (assuming the function solution doesn't work) these could be knocked out in 2-3 days max.

As you seem to be very close, could I ask how you are setting up the college and high school systems number wise. (how many college/how many high school.

The North American Baseball Alliance (link in signature) will be using your set and I would like to test to see how the game handles the draft size long term.

Actually, you can do this now with Redsoxfan's Player Importer. Anything that's exportable to a .csv file that starts with "teams" or "players" can be edited and then re-imported. It's made mass-editing data a breeze!

I'd be happy to offer my assistance, but I'm already working on popularity and the other info I mentioned above. Still, let me know if you need any help.

Unfortunately they're not ALL off by one year.

A few of the teams I did had maybe 60% of the players off by one year - the rest were correct. I didn't see any sort of pattern so the only way to know which guys need to be changed is to look each one up and compare it to the in-game birthdate.

It's a bit time consuming. If it could be done in Excel it would probably be faster but it would still take time to look up each player.

I wonder that everytime I see that edit. At least you didn't get a warning too, I guess...
