CubbyFan23/haveband Roster Set Ratings Discussion

Alright we did this last year, and if the mods could sticky this (perhaps when the file is released) it would make things easier and keep the other thread clutter free.

I'm going to release each team when I get done with editing them for release this week up until the release of the roster set. I'll probably be also doing a test sim for your perusal today. So, here's guidelines to post suggestions:
  • Check the player's ratings in the OOTP editor first. You can find this by going to the player's card, then Editor, then simply plug in his numbers (keep in mind you must multiply them x 2 if they're on a 1-100 scale, since OOTP editor uses 1-200 scale. Make sure you put them in the current ratings and not potential ones to check correct numbers. Check stats.
  • Give me SOME reason I should change them. Saying "Oh Player X should be a better power hitter" does not help us. Saying "Player X hit 40 HR last year in AAA, he's known as a great power hitter via *weblink or source* and you only have him projected to hit 10 HR in the majors over 550 AB" DOES help.
  • It'd be nice if we can keep everything uniform, so when you plug in stats, base it on 550 AB for hitters, 200 IP for starters, 80 IP for relievers. Give all pitchers a 40% Groundball %, 5 passed balls, 5 wildpitches, 2 balks (these do affect projected stats).

I don't know if you guys have realized this or not yet, but I LOVE talking baseball. Its one of the reasons I love doing rosters. So please don't think you're stepping on toes by suggesting ratings. I want this to be OUR set, not just mine and my belief on how a guy should be rated, so the more help I can get from opinions of the teams themselves and other baseball nuts, the better!

Here's the current links released of ratings, so far it's just the BA Top 100. I'll expand it to be teams pages and ratings as I complete them, starting Thursday afternoon. Eventually we'll knock these pages out and replace them with a link to the roster set for you to download (joy!).

NOTE: I don't compile this list. OOTP does. So please don't suggest I "move" a guy up the list. We're concentrated on ratings, and what they'll eventually produce in the game, not how some guys are sorted on a list of variables we don't even understand.

Baseball America Top 100 Rankings:
http://www.nibabaseball.com/dell/lea...prospects.html
(note that it only lists contact, power, and eye for hitters, just leave gap power as a general 120 rating (/200) or so, and put together contact by a combination of BABIP and Avoid K)

EXAMPLE:
I think Delmon Young should be rated higher. His current potential ratings put him at a .331 average, 23 HR, and a .902 OPS in his prime. Baseball America's scouting report (insert here) says he should develop 30 HR power. I think his power rating should be raised to 75 (1-100) which would give him a .343 average with 33 HR and a .981 OPS in his prime.

I may be dumb, but is there any sort of "conversion" between rating and stats?

Like if BJ Upton is a 75 power this puts him in a range of 30-40 HR in his prime.

Or if Francisco Liriano has 80 for stuff, is that X number of K's roughly?

Just curious, I'd like to offer whatever help in evaluating I can-- which is not a lot, but I've been ever so patiently (and quietly) waiting in the corner for rosters to come out.

Check the bullets. I'm basing the ENTIRE set off the player editor, I figure that way gives us the most accurate way of creating a baseline than just going "eh Liriano deserves a 77 I think. Instead, we can see what those ratings will reflect in the set absolutely.

Just go to the player editor, give him his potential ratings as his current ratings, and it will show you what the baseline should be.

Who wants Pie ???

Let me be the first to say it Felix Pie is over rated. You know its cubby's roster set when... LOL okay I could not resist the temptaion. But really I think from your prospect report he is ranked 8th on the list and I think that might be grossly over stated but we will see when the rosters are released...

Thank you Cubby amd HB your work is greatly appreciated. And everyone else who contributed to this project as well

Red Sox Prospects

Overall, Ba 100 looks great.

First off, I am a Red Sox fan, but Jacoby Ellsbury has to be ranked higher. He is being touted as the next Johnny Damon. He at least deserves to have his eye rating improved, as he has shown throughout his minor league and college career, his ability to post very high OBP's.

Also, to continue my Red Sox biased remarks, Clay Buchholz has to be ranked higher. This year he has managed to outpitch Roger Clemens, maintain an ERa under two, and have a Pedro Martinez circa 1999, K to BB ratio. I suggest you add to both his control and stuff potential.

Also, perhaps you can raise Hanley Ramirez's power potential. When he was with the Sox, I remeber many scouts thinking he could develop into a 30 hr a year type guy. He is showing some of that power this year.

David Bailey and Jay Bruce should be 1 and 2.

*gasp*

You should know that we don't mention this name!

Put it this way...if Ellsbury was anything like Damon and OOTP had a "potential backstabbing" rating...he'd be at the top of the list.

hahahahahaha

back on topic tho...The only thing I see is that perhaps Fausto Carmona should be a little higher. His movement should probably be one of the best for the 'prospects.'

Now that I look again, Verlander should probably have some more 'stuff' as well. He throws some quality smoke.

I'm curious, but is Cha Seung Baek in this roster set. I know he was not included in some roster sets for 2006 (I'm not sure which ones). He's not a major spect, but he's been a critical part of the Mariners pitching staff this year .

Absolutely, we should have everyone on a roster in this set.

Hey there. Just wondering if Brad Radke is going to be included in this set. He hadn't announced his retirement at the time at which this set is coming out, and I'd kinda like to make he play a couple more years with the Twins .

Keep up the good work guys!

Still undecided on who should be FAs and who shouldn't... I have the raw data for guys like Burnitz, Randa, Radke, etc. but it's tough deciding who 'might' come back and who won't.

Burnitz and Randa have retired...thankfully, as a Pirates fan.
