You take a lot of research, prayer, and time and get things lined up "just right" only to have the game make changes after the first day of simming :-)

Or you can just download one!

Or you can just come onto the forum and say your going to create one then disappear.

Start with the Lahman database, and build your major league rosters there. You have to follow the format for that database, and then you can have your major league rosters set.

But really, it's a very very tedious process to make your own rosters. It's like building a model train set. You can build your basic loop, but then you want to have a switching track, and so on...

I've always been curious about how people do it. So, you import Lahman and then you have to edit ratings and bio details, then edit all details and ratings of minor leaguers if you want real players from there as well? How do you add the batting/pitching historical stats for the minor league real players?

Steps for creating a Roster set

1) Do a Lahman import. This will get you a majority of the major leaguers and a small sampling of the minor leaguers you will need.

2) unretire anyone that is in the minor leagues with previous major league experience but did not appear in the Bigs that previous year. Because Lahman imports handle these type of players as retired.

3) The players that you previously unretired will all be listed as DHs. So you will need to to edit them all with correct positions and place them on their correct teams.

4) Next you will have to do all transactions that have occured from the end of the last season because that's the Lahman rosters you will be working with.

5) Next you have to go through and add fictional players to the minor league teams.

6) Next is editing in height, weight, DOB, POB, positions and all other details for the real minor leaguers that replace the fictional players that you created.

7) Then it's time to edit all the fictional coaches to their real counterparts

8) Then if you want any FAs you have to again create a bunch of fictional players and repeat step 6 again.

9) next depending on how you plan on doing your ratings, you may have to go through and rerate every player.

10) next depending on when you did step 4, you may have to repeat it before a release

11) If you want minor league stats, then you have to export out the stats file to a txt doc. Then convert it to excel and add in all the stats you want to have show up in the game. and convert it back to a txt doc. and import that back into the game

12) then you have to decide if you want to include any kind of player histories like when the player was drafted, first hit, win, etc and any achievements or transactions.

13) Then you test

14) finally depending on how the tests look, you tweak more.

15) then if you had to tweak ratings at all, you retest.

16) Finally you are able to release

And THAT is why only a few of the MBers actually create rosters... And we should bow down to those who do.

Yea it's not a fun process and I even was lucky enough to skip a few steps thanks to Erich. But I am still going to be lucky to have it in a playable shape by the time I wanted to have it done, which is Aug 15 BTw. I thought the timing would be good then, trade deadline will have come and gone, plus all the DPs that are signing will have signed
