I played a test season,made a 60 team draft league with 25 man rosters. I few observations:
Dead ball era pitchers and hitters dominated the league, barry bonds did not get drafted or picked up. Over 2600 players total, pretty cool. It would be cool to be able to set all the players age to 21,but not sure if there is a easy way to do that. Overall it will be fun to play around with, more observations when I have time. Thanks for the roster set by the way.

Spanky, you're my hero! I downloaded it around four this morning and it is the absolute best roster set I have ever seen. I haven't had a chance to start a league yet but I will this evening after work. Thanks again!

You know, I have been working on this project for so long that there might be some residue left over from earlier playing days. However, the computer might be drafting/releasing players too.

Before you start a "game" you might want to turn off A/I Trades and/or turn off A/I from making Roster changes. Remember, I mentioned that you should carefully go over and review all the options in the League Management Menus.

The game is actually set up with you playing as the GM/MGR of one team and the computer running the rest of the show. The A/I is set for trades and roster changes. Those guys on dfa are probably new acquisitions or players the A/I is going to dump. If you don't want this happening - TURN OFF A/I TRADES AND ROSTER CHANGES.

Always keep a backup of the original league file so that you can reinstall later if necessary. Later, when I have time, I will go back and make sure there are no DFA's on the original rosters. Let me know, if you encounter any other unusual tendencies.

I tried to eliminate all dupe players and I did not see any when I zipped up the package. However, a few may have made the final cut. Hopefully, your not cutting players with the same last name but different first names. You have to be careful with players from the 2000's like Smith'03 because there could also be a Smith'03 who played in 1903.

Yes, there are alot of great as free agents. This means your never sure whether or not you have the team unless you turn off the A/I in a couple different places. Remember, the teams that come with the DB are from a time frame (era) near that teams all time best win/loss record. Therefore, not every great Red Sox player is on the team. But, you can easily change that if you want to. I enjoy competiting with the A/I for free agents.

I guess the dead ball era players are more awesome than you imagined. They were truly great players - great stats. Also, I believe nobody took Bonds because at the time he hit 70 HR he was 35 years old. This stumped me but I quickly drafted him onto my team thus getting a solid player without having to pay. Hey, I didn't make up the game. Pay him more if you feel sorry for his situation.

Let me know what else you observe and how well you like the set.

Haven't had a chance yet to d'l yet, but thanks in advance for your hard work.

Perhaps you can tell me if what I'm thinking of is possible...

Start a league with you set, with the 26 ML teams from 1977, and have an inaugural draft with your DB. Is that within the realm of possibility.

As I said, haven't gotten a chance to tinker yet, probably tonight.

Thanks again for the set!

The DB is not really set up to just do one year like 1977 because, if that is all you want to do, you can easily import a single year from Lehman's.

I think I may have mis-spoke... I mean use the existing 26 franchises from the late 70's, and use your DB as the draft pool to set up the league. So say the Phillies could have Ty Cobb, Mike Schmidt, Keith Hernandez, etc.

But I'm home now, so I can work at it

Actually, you can do anything you want. I suggest counting the number of players from the 1970's who are in the DB. Certainly, you could make a team or two or three or four from the seventies and play them against the rest of the league. Remember to check your settings before you begin the game.

After getting a chance to look at this further it seems when you do a release all players and draft it only includes the players that were on teams for some reason,so if you want to include the free agents in your draft you have to go to each fa player and put them on a team then release all players and draft again, then the draft picks them up. Anyone that has figured out a better way to do this let me know. So there are 2700 or so fa's ,that should keep me busy for awhile, ,then I will go thru and delete all doubles, then I will have a hellava All Time Great draft league. it looks like there are around 4000 total players , I am going to try to do a 160 team league . This roster set has got me back into the game,Thanks again sparky.

"Build it and they will come ..." Glad to hear of your excitement. One thing is for sure, you won't get easily bored. The possibliities are endless. Myself, I enjoy picking one team and playing each game as the Mgr & GM. I play three or four games in the evenings. It ususally takes me 3 or 4 months to finish a season. I came back the next spring and start all over. But, I've been so busy putting this set together that I haven't really played that many games myself. So, now I'm going to do some playing and see how things flow together before I build another mouse-trap.

Difficulties...

I'm still tweaked about the possibility of this league, but my Imac & I are having a terrible time with it. Every time I try and import it, the game seizes up on me. Any suggestions?

Gee, I have not used Apple in a long time. Do you have problems with any other PC programs. Which version of OOTP do you have? Remember, you only want to import the League.dat file. Let me know how it goes.
