I got back to playing with the roster set, and realized that I had a misconception about the initial draft class that comes with the set. I gather that it must be based on someone's pre-draft prospect list and ratings, and not on what happened at the actual draft. I would be interested to know what the source was, if someone can tell me.
I gather than the actual draft results are going to be incorporated into the next version of this roster. Correct? |

It was based on BA's pre-draft scouting reports (it was done before the draft had happened). They will be incorporated, although I imagine re-ratings will happen still.

I just noticed that minor league free agency is disabled in this roster set. Is there a reason for that? Is it like Rule 5, where it was needed for the first season, but should be turned back on after that?
On a related note: is there a reason why many minor league players who had ML contracts at the beginning of the season IRL, only have MiL contracts in this roster set? I am ignorant as to why IRL clubs give these contracts to minor leaguers before they actually put them on the roster. MiL free agency doesn't seem to be the explanation. On the other hand, I only recently noticed that in OOTP, a first year ML player who ends up in the minors at the end of the season has his contract revert to MiL rather than a renewal of his ML contract as happens IRL most of the time. Is this just a defect in OOTP, or does it make sense to do it this way? Can anyone shed any light on any of this? |

Alright guys, starting the import of 2008 stats as I type this.
I've gone through and assigned players to their end of the season minor league teams for 18/30 teams, still need to do the other 12, re-rate players, and do salaries and such. Not sure what kind of a timeline we're looking at, I've got most of the tough stuff out of the way but there's still some work to do still. Should be able to knock out a large chunk Sunday. |

Also it just occurred to me that we need to wait anyway for awards to be announced since those are a part of the database. Anyone know when those are announced? I was thinking it was right around now. |

Wish I could
Unfortunately how the process works is updating the database, importing it, and then changing ratings/salaries... the only theoretical way I could release it now would be to have to go through and re-rate all of the players again after the awards are released since I have to re-import the DB.That being said the wasted time isn't for naught, I'm going through and re-rating a LOT of the minor leaguers that slipped through the cracks. The hope is to eventually have every player in the set re-rated for positions and hitting/pitching skills (that may be down the line, but hopefully enough will on the first release to make it a lot more quality set). |

Actually I found out I CAN (using the exporting ratings function for the first time successfully in OOTP history...
) work on player ratings before awards come out (just not salaries). So that's going to be a big addition to getting this set out ASAP.While I doubt I can release it before the last award, perhaps we can get a first set out on the day the last award is announced, which is only about a week. |

Yep, the plan is to try and let you simulate the entire offseason. Trying to figure out a way to set up a pre-inaugural season Rule 5, but at the very worst it will have free agency and probably start on January 1, 2009 with all of the free agents out there.
