Nippon Professional Baseball (Japanese Leagues)

I'll be releasing a 2008 NPB league file in a few days (something my new league wants to incorporate) -- it will have all the players in the league this year (with accurate salary info and uniforms), as well as their minor league rosters, with ratings based on stats up through Sunday. Not having stats for the minor leaguers, those won't be accurate ratings AT ALL, but at least the names will be in there.

I'm using real stats to generate these players, but adjusting the stats using NPB-MLB MLEs, then re-importing the real stats (for accuracy in records). That way you'll be able to use these rosters in conjunction with MLB without the Japanese players being *too* good. The Japanese Hall of Fame will be included, as well as past award winners, Japan Series winners and All-Stars.

When released, I'd like you guys to take a look at it and tell me what you think -- suggestions for improvement are not just welcome, I'm practically begging for them.

Are you aware of the NPB league file from last year? Link is below...it might save you a lot of work if you based it from that. Obviously 2007 history should be added, as well as revamped ratings, but it has LOTS of the work done already.

As for minor league stats, I have quite a few stats from 05-06 (to do the ratings for minor leaguers in the league file from last year), and some from 99-04. I haven't tried collecting minor league stats for 07, but I may be able to find them.

I started out with what you had, but then found another database that was a little easier to work with (from my perspective). This other database already had 2007, and I've been able to compile 2008 stats from boxscores.

2008 defense is not something I'm happy with -- it would take a LOT more work than I'm willing to do to make them good "enough" in my opinion, and they still wouldn't be quite right. Since they're just for ratings purposes, I don't see it as being a terrible issue.

This site includes two separate databases that can be connected together. There's a little work involved, and there are some duplicates, but it's not that hard to fix.

The site also includes 2008 boxscores that can be converted into current stats with a little effort.

Couple of snags in the data at the moment, I'll post a new thread when this is released.

As I've already warned: this is far from a perfect league file. I really want feedback on this once it's released, so it can be improved.

Larry this is great stuff -- would you mind if we combined the two files into an MLB/Japan set eventually once both the kinks in yours and mine are ironed out? Think it could make a pretty neat set.

I specifically intend to do that with my online league.

The Japanese Season is about over...is this roster project DOA? I am really looking forward to it if it is not. The only other way to play with Japanese teams is to buy a $400 ps3 and a $75 copy of Pro Yakyuu Spirits so given that prospect, my wife would be much happier with me getting this roster set.
