Unusual request for 2 sub-leagues
In OOTP 2007, I've just "realigned" a fictional league after adding two expansion franchises, going from ten teams in total to twelve.
Last season, there was a single league of two divisions, with six teams in division 1 and four in division 2. The arrangement of cities (they're all in Canada: four in the west, five in Ontario, two in Quebec, one in Atlantic Canada) lends itself nicely to three four-team divisions, but if I understand correctly, if I do that there'll be no possibility of playoffs. So I've decided to go to two sub-leagues. One would have a single four-team division, while the other would have two four-team divisions. (I know, I could probably just do two six-team divisions, but then I figure I might as well have one 12-team league playing a balanced schedule.) I'd like to have a 154-game schedule; 90 in-division (30 against each divisional opponent), and 32 in each of the other two divisions (8 against each team). Any takers? Any suggestions on how to go about this? Will playoffs work under this arrangement? |

Before the point on the schedule itself, the league configuration must be determined. It may be better asked in the main forum to help find out for sure, but I think your 2 sub-league idea would actually be the situation where playoffs would not be possible.
I know way back when in OOTP6 having a different number of divisions in the subleagues (like 1 division in one and 2 divisions in the other) would not work, and I believe that still holds true. However, since after OOTP6 I think that single-league playoffs are fine meaning you could do the single sub-league with 12 teams. If my thinking is correct you could have 3 divisions in it with a wild card making 4 playoff teams or just one division with the winner and either 1 or 3 wild cards. Hopefully someone here or in the main forum will confirm that. I have not played a lot lately, so I have lost track of how all this exactly does/can work. ![]() After the configuration is set the schedule can be composed. On first glance I am not sure how the 30/8 could be broken down best. I will give it some thought. |

You were right. The single-league, three-division appears to be the way to go. In another thread I was able to find a 154-game schedule for a three-division format, so it appears I'm set to proceed with the next season.
