National Association "As Played" Schedules

As part of my Baseball Saga dynasty (see link in my sig), I've manually created the schedules for each season of the National Association as they were actually played from 1871 to 1875. Most of these seasons were played with an odd number of teams, so if you intend to play according to these schedules, you'll need to initially create your league with an even number of teams, then remove or add to get to an odd number. Once you've got the right number of teams, load the correct season file (be sure to adjust the league start date to the right day of the year).

Lastly, if you want the schedules to match up with your teams exactly, you may need to spot check with Retrosheet to make sure the team ID's match up the games with the real life schedule (they do for me, but it's worth a double check).

I'll be sending to PadresFan, but they're also already available here:

I'll be the first to say that this is very much appreciated. Not only have you put together a good dynasty for this time period, but you've laid out steps that you undertook to replicate the era, listed any shortcomings/trade-offs you had to make, and shared your handmade schedules for our own consumption. Thank you fhomess!!!

Hey,

Using and enjoying these...thanks for all the hard work on these! Do you plan on releasing succeeding years? I hope so. Are they hard to make? What do you use to make them?

Not so much hard as time consuming. I got my data from retrosheet and entered it into a spreadsheet which was able to convert it into OOTP schedule format. I think I did 1876, but didn't go much beyond that and don't really have much plan to given that the schedule got taken over by the league at that point and was no longer quite as chaotic as in the NA years. If people are interested, I'd be willing to do more, but I'm currently working on a different OOTP project that has priority.

I for one would like to see more but understand the time factor of doing these. I would be willing to give a go if you want to provide me with a step-by-step.

How do you handle expansion when there are an odd # of teams if you are using the real teams. The reason i ask is the game will crash with an odd # of
teams in the rookie draft.
Do you eliminate a real team from the database or do you create a fake one and then delete it after the draft and assign players to real teams? I dont think i would like the delete the team option because then you have a team with a 0-0 record in the history section.

For my historical league, everytime a season starts I have to go through and manually schedule game by game for every team and it's very tedious work. Is there an easier way for me to do this like you describe or no?
