1915 Hall of Fame

Nate Clements, LF

Nate Clements retires as the most valuable position player in MLB history. He was 28 when the league began but still managed to play 15 full seasons and retired at the age of 43. He won 8 Gold Gloves and 1 Silver Slugger and was invited to 6 All-Star games. He was also named the 1900 NL Division Series MVP, though he never won a World Series. He has the most career home runs at 95 and led the league in round trippers for 3 straight years in 1901-1903.

Career Stats: 9356 PA, 95 HR, .336 wOBA, 117 wRC+, 260 ZR, 67.2 WAR

Name: OliverFinnieHOF.PNG

Oliver Finnie, SS

Finnie had a very good MLB career and is the first Hall of Fame player to be created after the league began - he joined the Indiana Hoosiers after the 1900 draft. He inexplicably played in the Independent Leagues in 1915 after a very good year with Pirates in 1914 and then even more unexplained retired after putting up 3.9 WAR with the Long Island Ducks. He definitely had injury issues throughout his career but was still providing very good value.

He was drafted by the Cubs in the 4th Round of the 1903 draft and the very next year began putting up big numbers in the Major Leagues. He was voted into 4 All-Star games, won two Gold Gloves, one Silver Slugger, and one World Series. He also finished 2nd and 3rd in the MVP voting in 1905 and 1907, respectively. He surpassed Kevin Kramer's mark as the most valuable short stop, but both of them have already been beaten by 29-year old Tomas Reed.

Career Stats: 4550 PA, .313 wOBA, 106 wRC+, 175.1 ZR, 49.5 WAR

Ron Griffin, RHP

Griffin won the Rookie of the Year award in 1902 having never even been named to a prospect list. He then had a very steady 12 year career providing solid middle of the rotation value, mostly to the Colorado Rockies. In that time he only had one serious injury, losing 4 months with a torn triceps.

Career Stats: 3137.3 IP, 730 BB, 1149 K, 2.75 FIP, 96 FIP-, 46.7 WAR

Danny Kane, LHP

Kane was a very steady middle of the rotation starter for the Red Sox, with one all-star team on his resume and one World Series championship. He was the #82 prospect in 1900 and pitched until he turned 40.

Career Stats: 3271.3 IP, 897 BB, 1128 K, 2.83 FIP, 99 FIP-, 44.4 WAR

Lochlan Collyer, RF

Collyer was an up and comer, providing 12.3 WAR of value in his age 25 and 26 seasons, but his value dropped sharply once he turned 30. He went to three All-Star games and won a Gold Glove but was quickly relegated to the Indy League. He did play well there in 1915 but must have decided to retire instead of continue in that league.

Career Stats: 5821 PA, 557 SB, .319 wOBA, 109 wRC+, 79.9 ZR, 31.1 WAR

Ahmad Torres, RHP

Torres was a good closer for nearly a decade, primarily for the Texas Rangers. He made one All-Star team and a World Championship. He was drafted 22nd overall in the 1903 draft out of Alabama and debuted in 1904 at the age of 22.

Career Stats: 644.3 IP, 294 BB, 420 K, 245 SV, 2.43 FIP, 90 FIP-, 11.1 WPA, 8.1 WAR

1915 Top Players Under Age 30

Chris Adams, RHP

Drafted in the 2nd round out of McFarland, WI in 1907, Adams has already won a Pitcher of the Year award and been voted to 4 all-star games. He just recently signed a 7-year extension with the Mariners.

Henry Angelbeek, RHP

Angelbeek has also won a Pitcher of the Year award and has been named an all-star four time. He has also won two World Series with the Padres. He was the 33rd overall pick in 1905 out of the Texas High School league.

Rick Vandervelde, RHP

A hard worker, Vandervelde has made the most out of his career after getting drafted in the 14th round out of Mayfield High School. He was an all-star in 1912 and just won the pitching gold glove in 1915.

Dean Davidson, RHP

Davidson is a 2-time all-star and the Phillies captain. He was drafted in the 9th Round out of Springfield High in Oregon in 1905. He finished 2nd in the Pitcher of the Year voting in 1915.

Justus Whitham, LF

Whitham was taken 11th overall in the 1909 draft from the University of Indiana. He most recently won the MVP award and has also been named to 3 all-star teams, won 3 silver sluggers, and one gold glove.

Jason Hunnicutt, 2B

Hunnicutt was the 1912 Rookie of the Year, followed by a 1913 campaign where he was named MVP, all-star, silver slugger, and gold glove. He was drafted 21st overall in 1910 from Washington.

Dylan Teague, 2B

Teague has already had a long history with injuries but still has managed to provide a lot of value. He was the 5th pick in 1904 out of South Mecklenburg and debuted in 1907 with the Devil Rays. He has won 3 silver sluggers and was named an all-star in 1911 as well as the AL Division Series MVP.

Danny Hurst, 3B

One of the top free agents this offseason and a very good young player drafted 12th overall out of Texas Tech. He is a 3-time all-star and 4-time silver slugger.

Mohamed Sabry, 3B

He moved from Egypt to Washington State to play baseball and was rewarded as the 12th overall pick in 1909. He was the 1911 Rookie of the Year, has won two gold gloves, and was on the 1912 all-star team.

Kendrick Kalamari, SS

Another good young Red Sox player, Kalamari was drafted 8th overall out of USC and was named to the 1911 all-star team.

1916 Top 100 Prospects

Name: PhoenixAmossIndians.PNG

Unsurprisingly, Phoenix Amoss is the top prospect. Also unsurprising is that he is already on the Major League roster. Somewhat surprising - he didn't make his big league debut last year.

Name: BlaiseDuarte.PNG

The top pitching prospect is Blaise Duarte who was a scouting discovery in 1910.

Seems like his elite defense kind of broke the game a little. This is the first 10+ WAR season I've seen in the league.

1916 Where Are They Now?

Top Prospects:
Chris Adams - Top prospect turned Top Pitcher. He is a 5-time all-star and has had 5 years straight of top-level performances.

Ezra Siering - Of course the Brewers player is the one who doesn't meet expectations. He had a few above average years in 1912-1914, but has been injured at some point in the years since then. He did return to a 4 WAR season in 1916.

R.J. Taylor - He has performed below expectations also, with a max value of 3.4 WAR so far. He is currently out with a fractured fibula and had a setback that doubled the amount of time he would miss.

Draftees:
Jeff Nolasco - The top high school draftee in 1911. He made his MLB debut in 1915 with the Mariners and his first full season in 1916 was average.

Emmett Eldridge - The top overall pick to the Braves and has been average in his career so far.

Adam Sutter - The top pitcher in the draft has only appeared in 40 MLB games, all as a reliever.

Award Winners:
Curtis Adams - He want the Top Pitching award in 1911 but ended up being a flash in the pan. He did have a good 1912 season but has gone downhill from there.

Bryant Galban - The 1911 Rookie of the Year pitched another 2 full seasons in the majors and then retired after getting stuck in the minor leagues.

Other:
Josh Fowler - He just turned 40 and has been holding onto life as a major league player. He is currently without a team but hasn't retired.

Skye Pitchford - He was the top unsigned draftee in 1911 and went to Michigan. He was drafted the second time in 1914 by the Angels and was most recently named the #9 prospect.

Jon Wilbur - One of the top under-30 players. He maintained steady production until this past year when he had elbow inflammation injuries.

Trevor Ziliak - Another top under-30 player. He had a bounceback year in 1916 with 3.7 WAR.
