1921 Hall of Fame

Name: JimSlackHOF.PNG
Views: 32

Jim Slack, CF

Slack was drafted 11th overall out of Villanova by the San Diego Padres in 1906. By the end of 1907 he was up with the big league club and by 1908 he was the starting CF. He stayed with the Padres for 10 seasons before signing with the White Sox. He made 4 all-star teams, won a gold glove, and was on two of the Padres World Series teams, winning NL Division Series MVP in 1913. He twice led the league in stolen bases and finishes his career 6th in MLB history in steals and 9th in hits.

Career Stats: 8879 PA, 2113 H, 776 SB, .314 wOBA, 104 wRC+, 111.7 ZR, 47.4 WAR, 40.2 JAWS

Koby Webb, RHP

Webb makes into the Hall of Very Good, but falls just shy of Fame. He had a few very good seasons and maintained production for quite some time, starting 340 games for the Padres over 13 years. He made three all-star teams, won a gold glove, and was a three-time World Series champion - twice with the Padres and once with the Indians. He finished 2nd in Pitcher of the Year voting in 1911.

Career Stats: 3405.3 IP, 796 BB, 1308 K, 2.61 FIP, 95 FIP-, 53.0 WAR, 49.0 JAWS

Emmanuel Ahern, LHP

Ahern was a solid, durable starter for many years, splitting time between the Indians, Reds, Orioles, Athletics, and White Sox. He was drafted in the 3rd round out of high school and finished 2nd in Rookie of the Year in 1908.

Career Stats: 3201 IP, 910 BB, 1183 K, 2.74 FIP, 98 FIP-, 44.5 WAR, 46.9 JAWS

Bob Edge, 1B

Edge led the league in home runs twice with 7 in 1906 and 6 in 1908. He was an all-star in 1910, a two-time silver slugger, and won a gold glove. He was taken in the 4th round in 1903 out of Pennsylvania.

Career Stats: 8426 PA, 1973 H, .320 wOBA, 109 wRC+, 87.3 ZR, 31.9 WAR, 29.6 JAWS

Simon Walker, LHP

Walker was drafted in the 13th round by the Dodgers in 1904 out of high school and was quickly traded to the Cardinals, where he spent 9 major league seasons. He was a three-time all-star and was known for his elite control.

Career Stats: 2389.3 IP, 426 BB, 934 K, 2.33 FIP, 85 FIP-, 48.5 WAR, 34.0 JAWS

Eric Olena, RF

Olena's entire career was with the Rangers from 1907 through 1920 after being drafted 1st overall in 1905. He was a two-time silver slugger and one-time all-star. His offensive production was never in doubt, but he was definitely out of place in RF and never had the defensive prowess necessary to be an MVP candidate.

Career Stats: 8500 PA, 1905 H, .339 wOBA, 117 wRC+, -104.9 ZR, 21.4 WAR, 19.9 JAWS

Nelson Avock, SS

Avock was drafted 19th overall out of Kentucky and absolutely should not have played shortstop, but yet that is where the Mets, Braves, and Yankees put him for 11 years. He did win a silver slugger in 1910.

Career Stats: 6734 PA, 1529 H, .303 wOBA, 99 wRC+, -331 ZR, -11.1 WAR, 4.8 JAWS

1921 Top Players Under Age 30

Blaise Duarte, RHP

He was an international discovery out of the Dominican Republic in 1910 and by 1916 was the top pitching prospect. He has had some injuries to deal with but has been a solid #2 guy for 4-5 years when healthy.

Collin Abbot, SS

He was drafted in the supplemental 1st round back in 1911 out of high school and injuries have wrecked his career. In just parts of seasons, he has put up 3-4 WAR but didn't stay healthy to challenge for an MVP award. The past two seasons have seen him play a full slate of games but he has put up 3 WAR over that full time frame. He has been to two all-star games, won a gold glove, and was the 1919 NL Division Series MVP.

Joaquin De Los Santos, CF

He was a scouting discovery in 1912 out of the Dominican Republic and has made 4 all-star games in 1917, 1918, 1919, and 1920. He has had injuries nearly every year, taking away precious playing time, but has still managed to stay well above-average every year.

Josh Oakes, RF

Oakes was drafted 29th overall in 1914 out of Nebraska and has been a hit machine, leading the National League in hits three times. He has won three silver sluggers, been to one all-star game, and was on the Phillies World Series team in 1919.

Elliot Reed, CF

Reed was drafted 30th overall in 1912 out of Springfield HS in Oregon. He was the 1919 Silver Slugger in CF and has stayed healthy throughout his career so far.

1922 MLB Playoffs

The Brewers had a great year, finishing 93-69 and leading the NL Central by 11.5 games. I guess the Angels had a good year too, winning their second World Series.

1922 Where Are They Now?

Top Prospects:
Thomas Hagan - After being drafted 5th overall in 1913 by the Braves out of Edenton Holmes High School in North Carolina, Hagan spent a few years in the minor leagues and burst on the scene with 8.3 WAR his rookie year. He has won two MVP awards and been to 6 all-star games.

Jase Lee - He returned from the bone chips in his elbow and then tore his labrum in April last year and missed most of the 1922 season.

Draftees:
Blake Martin - He was the 1st overall draft pick in 1917 and has all the markers of an elite player as long as he can stay healthy. He did make the all-star team in 1922.

Urdar Arisson - A supremely talented LF out of Central High in California and is still waiting to fulfill his potential. He has played parts of two seasons in the majors without much to show for it yet.
I looked in the world and saw that Iceland was marked as having high talent. I adjusted that so we should see fewer Icelandic players from now on.

Jonah Taylor - He was the top pitching draft prospect out of Washington. He made the 1922 all-star team and finished 3rd in pitcher of the year.

Award Winners:
Anakin Daley - He was Rookie of the Year in 1917 and has been to three all-star games, won two silver sluggers, and one gold glove.

Aiden Shelton, CF

Aiden Shelton retires as one of the best batters ever to play the game and easily the top CF, surpassing Yun-ho Chun. He won two MVP awards, went to 6 all-star games, and won two silver slugger awards in his MLB career after getting drafted 1st overall out of Pendleton High School in Oregon. His 2531 hits is the current MLB career record and his 1069 SB are 2nd most in MLB history. He played good CF defense most of his career until he turned 33, when his value became very negative, taking away all of his career value at the position.

Career Stats: 10321 PA, 2531 H, 1069 SB, .341 wOBA, 119 wRC+, -27.3 ZR, 65.8 WAR, 55.0 JAWS

Career Stats: 2095 IP, 384 BB, 1004 K, 2.32 FIP, 80 FIP-, 48.8 WAR, 44.3 JAWS

Kyle Martin, RHP

Martin put together a solid career, always hanging out just below the elite pitching level for over 10 years, most of those with the Yankees. He was drafted in the 4th Round out of Boston College in 1904 and won a Gold Glove as well as a World Series.

Career Stats: 3229 IP, 733 BB, 1209 K, 2.58 FIP, 94 FIP-, 50.6 WAR, 42.5 JAWS

1922 Top Players Under Age 30

A.J. Aranha, LHP

Aranha is a 28-year old lefty for the Mets, drafted 17th overall in 1915 out of Vanderbilt, and debuted in 1917. Ever since getting a change at the starting rotation, he has provided 3-5 WAR consistently, made two all-star teams, and was the 1920 NL Championship series MVP in the Mets World Series run.
