Players better at positions other than their regular default?

Can someone explain the logic behind this. Seems like an exploit to me.

It's part of the defensive spectrum. There are some positions easier to play than others. Typically a player good enough (good enough range and hands) to play a position as difficult as SS can move down the defensive spectrum to a position such as 3B and be better there. Same with 2B to 3B as long as they have the arm for the move. Someone with enough speed and range to play CF would be of more value at an easier position to play such as LF (though a position like RF he would need to have the arm to play it)

Not an exploit at all. You don't want players who can't hit to play hitting positions.

Andrelton Simmons would be a godly 1st baseman but if I may use an extreme example that's like being a professional toilet flusher.

sometimes you can get really good hitters and pretty decent fielders by retraining. I often find mediocre fielding SS and CF that are good hitters and can be trained to very effective 2B/3B or LF/RF.
