Giants Roll to 8-1 Win Over Braves

There was only 1 team going to win today's game as the San Francisco Giants batting dismantled the Braves pitching right from the start. This led to them winning the game 8-1. Tim Lincecum was also on top form on the mound for the Giants as he pitched an excellent game.

The scoring started early for the Giants as they took a run in the bottom of the first. Willie Mays was given a walk before he moved to second on a Barry Bonds single. Willie McCovey then bought him home with a single as he came home with no throw made.

Jeff Kent started the second for the Giants with a single. He moved to second on a Pablo Sandoval single. Kent then came home after Roger Connor singled. This saw Sandoval move to second. Willie Mays picked up a single to load the bases. Barry Bonds then hit into a fielders choice that scored Sandoval. This made it 2 runs in the inning for a 3-0 lead to the Giants.

The game went quiet until the bottom of the 5th. Warren Spahn started the inning by walking Barry Bonds. He then gave Willie McCovey the perfect ball to hit and McCovey didn't miss the invitation. He sent the ball 373 feet to gain a 2 run homer, bringing in Bonds. John Meyers hit a double off Spahn next and that was it for him as the Braves pulled him from the game. Charlie Buffington got the team out of the inning with no more runs against the team. 5-0 Giants lead.

By the time the 7th came round Buffington was starting to tire. Mike Tiernan took a single. George Davis followed with another single that Tiernan used to get to third base. Pablo Sandoval then came in and picked up a line drive double that sent Tiernan to home plate for run number 1 in the inning. Davis moved to third before trying for home. He beat the throw to make it run number 2. The Pinch Hitting Bobby Thompson then claimed as single that saw Sandoval to third. A throwing error then allowed Sandoval to run for home and make the score line 8-0 in the Giants favour.

There was scant consolation for the Braves when the top of the 8th saw them pick up their run against a tiring Lincecum. Sam Wise made base on a walk. A single by Lonnie Smith moved Wise to second. A wild pitch saw Wise to third and Smith to second. Rico Carty then picked up an RBI single as he bought home Wise for the Braves only score.

Lincecum was replaced at this point and Christy Mathewson closed the game out from there.

Tim Lincecum picked up the player of the game honours after his 7 innings of work saw him give up 7 hits and 1 run. He picked up the win form the game. Warren Spahn was given the loss on his 4 innings of work.

The Braves manager told the press afterwards that “We'll keep our chins up and get ready for the next game.”

The San Francisco Giants pick up their first win with this result, moving to 1-2 while the Braves drop to 2-1 after the loss.

Last time out it was the Baltimore Orioles that won a close game 5-4. Both sides will be hoping to get ahead in the series today as they try to make sure they will not lose the 4 game series. The Baltimore Orioles have gone for experience for game 3 as they give the ball to Nels 'Nellie' Potter. Potter comes into the game from 1945 and brings with him a career record of 51-51

The predictions from the experts see them favouring the Baltimore Orioles by a small margin. This is mainly due to the Orioles stronger batting line up but it could still go either way.

Here are the line-up's for today's game

Potter Now 1-0 After Subduing the Royals

The Baltimore Orioles rode to the win on the arm of Nels Potter as they collected the 4-1 victory today. The Orioles batting did enough to bring the win home as Potter put up an excellent performance from the mound.

The Orioles got the scoring going early as they were 2-0 up by the end of the first inning. Paul Blair made base with a line drive to left centre for a single. George Sisler then stepped up to the plate and launched the 2-1 pitch from Saberhagen 382 feet for a 2 run homer that bought home Blair.

The Royals managed to get 1 back in the top of the second. Danny Tartabull led off with a solid single. He then stole second base. He moved to third on a tag up from a flyball out by Darrell Porter. Eric Hosmer was the one to bring Tartabull home on a single to right centre.

The Bottom of the third saw the Orioles extend their lead back to 2 runs as George Sisler and Frank Robinson hit 2 quick doubles from Saberhagen that saw Sisler get to home plate.

The scoring was finished in the bottom of the fifth after some good hitting and running by the Orioles. Paul Blair got another single to lead off the inning. Sisler produced a single to add to his good game pushing Blair to second. Blair then ran for third and beat the throw. Next up was Frank Robinson and he went in swinging the bat. He failed to connect and was struck out but the last ball was missed by the Royals catcher and it allowed Paul Blair to run for home to score.

Nels Potter had an excellent game going 8 innings with only 4 hits and 1 run against him. He struck out 8 on his way to the win and player of the game honours.

Bret Saberhagen was given the loss on 8 innings of 7 hit, 3 run ball. The save went to Zach Britton of the Orioles.

Potter spoke to the press afterwards saying 'Throwing strikes was the main thing.'

The Baltimore Orioles now take a 2-1 lead in the series and also have a 2-1 record for the year. The Kansas City Royals are 1-2 for both the series and the year.

The Boston Red Sox have given the ball to possibly the best pitcher of all time in the form of Cy Young. The 38 year old Young has been imported from the 1905 season and has a career record of 423-235.

The experts are unsure who to go for as a winner for this game but they don't mind as long as we get a classic with 2 star pitchers on the mound and 2 strong batting line-ups.

Here are those 2 line-ups

Red Sox Beat Yankees 5-2

The experts were hoping for a classic today and both sides tried to produce one. In the end it was the Boston Red Sox that had the better of the tussle as they won the game 5-2. The game itself was decided in the middle innings when the Red Sox batting came alive.

The New York Yankees were the first to get onto the score board. Joe Di Maggio got the Second inning off to a good start with a double. He then moved to 3rd as Dave Winfield reached on an error by Boston. Derek Jeter then stepped forward and slotted a nice single to left centre to bring home Di Maggio.

The Bottom of the 4th finally saw the Red Sox solve Left Gomez. Fred Lynn picked up a single at lead off. Dwight Evans then came into the box and settled himself in for a long look. He took the count to 3-2 before he got what he wanted. When he did get what he wanted he launched it 447 feet to pick up a 2 run homer, bringing in Lynn.

Gomez finally wilted under the Red Sox pressure as the bottom of the 5th saw him give the game to the Red Sox. He gave a walk to Tris Speaker before Wade Boggs doubled. Jimmie Foxx then singled to bring home Speaker. Fred Lynn also singled bringing home Boggs. Dwight Evans singled to load the bases before Dustin Pedroia bought home Foxx with a single. There were 4 hits and 3 runs in the inning to see Gomez leave the game.

There was a final run for the Yankees as they finally managed to see off Young. Dave Winfield led off with a single. Derek Jeter also picked up a single. Young left the game after this. Babe Ruth managed to move the bases while he gave up his out with a flyout. Lou Gehrig then came in and was at the plate when a wild pitch from Bruce Hurst saw Winfield scamper for home.

Cy Young did enough during the game to be given the player of the game award. He picked up the win from 6.1 innings of work. He gave up 8 hits and 1 earned run for an ERA of 1.42.

Lefty Gomez got the loss after 2 poor innings out of 5 saw him give up 9 hits and 5 runs. Jonathan Papelbon got the save.

Young told the awaiting press 'This level of focus will win us a lot of ballgames.'

The Boston Red Sox move to 2-1 for the year while the Yankees fall to 1-2.

Day 3 of the season sees the Colorado Rockies continue their trip to Philadelphia to face the Phillies in game 3 of the 4 game series. So far the Phillies have been the stronger side, winning both games, with the last outing being a comfortable 7-0 win. The Rockies will be looking to try and make something happen in game 3 to get win number 1 on the board. The Phillies will just be trying to do the same as they have so far in the series and take the 3rd win. Today's game is being played at Citizens Bank Park with a start time of 4.30 PM EST.

The Colorado Rockies are giving a first start to Jorge De La Rosa in this third game of the season. De la Rosa comes into the season from 2009 and has a career record of 25-31.

The Philadelphia Phillies have Curt Schilling down as their number 3 starter and he will get the nod for today. This version of Schilling is imported from 1998 and has a career record of 69-63

The experts can only see one winner. They are expecting the Phillies to move to 3-0 on the fact that the starting pitching contest is a non-contest with the difference in skills between the 2 players.

Phillies Bang Out 15-8 Win Versus Colorado

Name: Game Scoreline.PNG
Views: 13

Today's contest was always going to be lop sided on the starting pitchers but none of the fans at the game could have predicted the way the game started. The Phillies rode the early inning to take the win as Colorado just were not at the game at the start. The Phillies won 15-8.

The bottom of the first turned into a nightmare for all Rockies fans as Jorge De la Rosa had the start from hell. Lenny Dykstra started the inning with a single. Ed Delahanty then doubled to bring Dykstra home. Mike Schmidt was given a walk. Dick Allen then hit a double to bring home Ed Delahanty and move Schmidt to third. Jack Clements made it a loaded base situation after being hit by a pitch. Chase Utley was given a walk to bring home Schmidt and leave the bases loaded. Jimmy Rollins was up next and tried to hit one out of the park but it fell just short at the wall for a triple. This scored Dick Allen, Jack Clements and Chase Utley. Dykstra made base a second time with a walk. Jimmy Rollins scored on a wild pitch before Ed Delahanty also made base on a walk. Mike Schmidt then bought home Dykstra and Delahanty with a 401 fott long ball that cleared the fence for a 3 run homer. Gavvy Cravath and Chuck Klein singled. Dick Allen followed with another single to score Gavvy Cravath. That was it for Jorge De La Rosa as the Rockies coaching staff put him out of his misery and pulled him. That did not end the Phillies run feast though as Jack Clements singled to load the bases for a third time. Chase Utley then doubled to bring home Chuck Klein, Dick Allen and Jack Clements. The Rockies managed to get out of the inning finally after this. The Phillies banged home a big 14 runs in the inning.

The bottom of the second saw the Phillies add to their sizeable lead with an Ed Delahanty homer that went 405 feet.

The top of the 5th was where the Colorado Rockies tried to make their long trail back into the game. Matt Holliday started it off with a solo home run effort that went 379 feet. Charlie Blackmon followed him up with a solo effort of his own that went 368 feet.

The top of the 6th saw Larry Walker hit one 390 feet for the third solo home run effort of the Rockies game.

The top of the 9th saw the Rockies throw everything they had at the score but still come up short. Larry Walker singled as did Matt Holliday. A double from Charlie Blackmon scored Walker. Matt Holliday scored on a wild pitch from Curt Schilling. Nolan Arenado then singled to bring home Blackmon. This ended Schillings game. Trevor Storey completed the games scoring as he struck a sweet 2 run homer, bringing in Nolan Arendo.

The game finished 15-8 in the Phillies favour.

The player of the game award was always going to go to a pitcher after the number of runs scored. In this case it went to Ed Delahanty who had a solid game of 2-5 with a home run and a walk. He scored 3 runs and bought home another 2.

The Phillies skipper spoke to reporters afterwards and said 'We swung the bats good throughout the line-up.'

This result sees the Phillies move to 3-0 for the season while the Rockies drop to 0-3. They will both do this again tomorrow.
