I really wanted to free up a little bit of payroll during the offseason, so we managed to swing a deal with the Conquistadors to send catcher Stephen Williams (retaining 60% of his salary), shortstop Joe Haas, left fielder Tristan Edmonds, and minor league outfielder Brock Tinter. Coming back to New Orleans was 30 year old catcher Rafael Carrasco.

This deal saved us just over $6 million, which will allow us to go shopping for some fringe free agents to help fill out our roster.

Our offseason shopping is complete. Shortstop Roy Burkett was signed to a minor league contract after hitting .182 during a cup of coffee last year. Lorenzo Garafaio was signed to a one year $970,000 contract. He was 4-8 with a 3.51 ERA last year in 22 starts in AAA. Shortstop Tim Johns was also signed to a minor league contract with Pedro Rodriguez signed to a one year $810,000 contract. Rodriguez went 2-2 with 4 saves and a 1.67 ERA last year in 37 2/3 innings for the Angels.

36 year old SP Walt Middleton was signed to a one year $2.4 million contract after pitching just 12 1/3 innings last year because of injury. 27 year old reliever David Gonzalez signed a one year $750,000 contract after pitching 10 2/3 shutout innings last year. Luis Castro was 4-3 with a 3.90 ERA in 60 innings and signed a one year $1.3 million contract. 2B Alan Anderson signed a one year $1.4 million contract after hitting .308 in 25 games.

36 year old shortstop Julian Hernandez returned on a one year $1.5 million contract after hitting .190 with 13 home runs. 32 year old second baseman Jed Jefferson signed a one year $1.3 million contract after hitting .256 with 2 home runs.

Unfortunately that's about the best we could do given our limited resources.

The Orioles made an offer today sending shortstop Joseph Taylor while retaining 60% of his $6.8 million salary while acquiring Glenn Joyce and pitching prospect Michael Rogers.

With a 14-16 record in Spring Training the Gators are ready for the season to begin, although don't expect miracles this year. I'm hoping for some improvements though after losing 107 games last year, ideally playing close to .500.

With an 8-19 start to the season things haven't gone exactly as planned. With an early rash of injuries we're scrambled to do things like fill out our roster. I didn't expect miracles, but I did hope to not lose 100 games this year.

Reynaldo Ortiz of the Knights picked up the 2000th hit of his career this month.

May was a little better for the Gators as we finished 12-15 for the month of May and are now 20-34 for the season and sit 12 games back.

Around the league Armando Ruiz of the Twins hit his 500th career home run, and picked up the 2000th hit of his career this month.6 Robert Sanchez of the Blue Jays picked up his 2500th career hit.

It's been a while since we received a trade proposal, but the Expos offered 28 year old left fielder Jack Richmond and 19 year old 2B Luis Navarro in exchange for 25 year old starting pitcher Jesus Rodriguez.

It's a bad sign when fans are upset about the loss of Rodriguez and players are leery of the acquisition of Richmond. A lose-lose trade.

Centerfielder Ben Morgan became our latest franchise player when we selected him with the first overall pick in the amateur draft. In the second round we added right fielder Carlos Gonzalez with third baseman Peter Lynch selected in the third round.

In the fourth round we selected closer Tyson Butler with shortstop Gary Stanford rounding out the top five rounds.

With a 14-12 month the Gators had a winning month for the first time this season. That moved us out of last place and 11 1/2 games out of first place.

33 year old Esteban Albizu hit the 400th home run of his career for the Rockies, while Stan Wagner of the Expos saved the 300th game of his career.

The Gators returned to our losing ways with a 10-14 record this month. Unfortunately the Gators don't have much in the way of trade chips, so it was a pretty quiet month.

The Gators did have one All-Star representative, starting pitcher Jyotirbhaga Sourabh. Around the league Oliver Osborne of the Blue Jays picked up the 2500th hit of their career, with Richie Bennett of the Cardinals picking up their 2000th career hit, Chris Spence of the Jays hitting their 300th career home run, Sergio Munoz of the Indians hitting their 400th career home run, and Tony Hodge of the Cardinals saving their 300th career game.

There is nothing more frustrating when your hands are tie, unable to make a move and have to play the hands that you are dealt. We went just 10-17 for the month and I'm anxious for the season to end.

Fred Henderson of the Twins saved the 400th game of his career.

The Gators have already been eliminated from the playoffs and finished September with a dreadful 4-22 record.

Anthony Webb of the Dodgers picked up his 2000th career hit this month while Pedro Torres of the Monks hit his 300th career home run.

With a 1-4 record in October the Gators wrapped up their second straight 100 loss season, finishing with a 59-103 record. Since we are in bad financial shape it's going to be a tough offseason and likely tough year next year as we try and avoid our third straight 100 loss season.

The Gators non-tendered relievers Lorenzo Garafaio, Pedro Rodriguez, right fielder Bailey Richardson, and right fielder Carlos Rivera. All had negative war this season, and we need to save money where we can.

Centerfielder Ben Morgan was added to our list of untouchable players joining Melvin Page, Jyotirbhaga Sourabh, Duane Smith, and Russell Fraser.

Our owner isn't happy at all about my performance. He'd fire me if he could I think, and he cut our budget. Our payroll was $61 million last year and with our new budget we're looking at a payroll of about $45 million. That should make for a fun offseason.

Julian Hernandez announced his retirement after hitting .182 this year.

New Orleans Gators - 67-95 (.414) 20 1/2 GB
2064 - New Orleans Gators - 61-101 (.377) 50 GB (Season Score - 43)

Farewell to Tyson Butler, this year's fourth round draft pick, and 3B Riley Cartwright who were traded to the Seattle Mariners in exchange for left fielder Eric Hughes. Hughes hit .263 with 6 home runs as a 30 year old last year.

It will be interesting to see how Torres does in this world as compared to the aftermath world...

Heading into season 5, you should have "4" untouchables right? Are you going to be able to hold on to these guys long term? Contract wise.

This has been rough, yet fun, to read. Some of those deals are insane.

Good luck in 2068

Thanks! I'm going to need all the luck I can get I think. I'm not too optimistic about our chances.

The Monks are interesting, although pretty different. Torres is pretty comparable in both worlds at this point, but a lot of differences between the two rosters. I'll try and check in and do a compare and contrast against some of the major players at some point though.

I think I took an early advantage and went with one protected player heading into year one, although to this point it hasn't helped yet. I'm not sure I'll be able to hold on to everyone. I have my first glimpse this offseason with Sourabh who is eligible for arbitration the first time after a 4.9 WAR season and will make $5.1 million. I don't think there is much hope of ending with a positive balance next year either.

I feel like I'll be walking the tightrope trying to bring the protected players up, and if they do good we'll play better, but pay them more causing more problems.

But I'll definitely take that problem if multiple players do play well. This has been brutal though, but I hope we can turn the corner soon.

Today was one of the trades that I initiated, sending third baseman Dale Wright (while retaining 75% of his salary) along with Julian Williams in exchange for 2B prospect Chris Coleman.

Another day, another trade initiated by me. Shortstop Joseph Taylor and reliever Matt Field were sent to Toronto in exchange for minor league reliever Bob Miller. We retained 40% of Taylor's salary and got back a non-prospect in return, but we are now in the black.

While the last two trades were of my accord in order to get us in the black and put us with a budget surplus of $228,000 today's trade offer brought us down to a surplus of $7000. Going to Houston is 1B Mike Rose and 3B prospect Peter Lynch while coming back to New Orleans is catcher Raymond Fields and $3.8 million in cash.

In other news the Gators brought aboard a new manager (Woody O'Neal), new scout (Justin Green), and a new hitting, pitching, and bench coaches as we cleaned house on our staff.
