WORLD SERIES GAME FOUR

The Highlanders lead the Superbas 2 games to 1,

New York is pitching Addie Joss against Eddie Plank.

Top of the 1st

3 up, 3 down

Bottom of the 1st

Dylan Fullerton leads off with a single. He goes to 2nd on a Roger Bresnahan single. Plank tries to pick off Fullerton and throws the ball into centre, moving both runners up. Bob Unglaub singles, scoring Fullerton and moving Bresnahan to 3rd. Mike Donlin doubles, scoring Bresnahan and moving Unglaub to 3rd. Arturo Aguirre grounds out but Unglaub scores and Donlin goes to 3rd. Danny Hoffman grounds out but Donlin scores. Nelson Harper reaches on an error to Erve Beck. Rodney Peters hits an infield single, moving Harper to 2nd. Joss reaches on an error by Cale Bernard, loading the bases. Fullerton singles, scoring Harper and Peters. Bresnahan singles, scoring Joss and moving Fullerton to 3rd. Unglaub strikes out.

A complete disaster of an inning.

Highlanders lead 7-0.

Top of the 2nd

Bottom of the 2nd

Top of the 3rd

Adam Schmidt reaches on an error to Fullerton at 3rd. Joe Cassidy replaces him with a fielder's choice. Plank hits into a double play.

Bottom of the 3rd

Harper reaches with an infield hit to lead off. Joss bunts him over for the 2nd out. Fullerton triples, scoring Harper.

Highlanders lead 8-0

Top of the 4th

Beck singles with two out. He gets no further.

Bottom of the 4th

3 up, 3 down

Top of the 5th

3 up, 3 down

Bottom of the 5th

Hoffman reaches on an error to Cassidy. That is FOUR Brooklyn errors in five innings! Harper reaches man fielder's choice and then steals 2nd. Schmidt throws the ball away on the steal attempt for error #5 and Harper takes 3rd. Peters singles, scoring Harper. Joss bunts him to 2nd. Fullerton doubles, scoring Peters.

Highlanders lead 10-0.

This is embarrassing.

Top of the 6th

3 up, 3 down

Chris Hudson pinch hit for Plank and then stayed in to play CF. Sam Crawford moved to 1st and Frank Delahanty is out of the game, replaced by pitcher Cy Young.

Bottom of the 6th

Unglaub takes a lead off walk. With one out Aguirre singles, moving Unglaub to 3rd. He then scores on a Hoffman ground out. Aguirre goes to 2nd. Harper walks. Both runners are left.

Highlanders lead 11-0.

Top of the 7th

3 up, 3 down

Bottom of the 7th

Bresnahan singles with two out but is left.

Top of the 8th

3 up, 3 down
Including Jose Martinez pinch hitting for Pat Locke. He stays in to play LF.

Bottom of the 8th

Aguirre walks with one out. He stops there.

Top of the 9th

Bris Lord pinch hits for Hudson with one and and doubles - only the 2nd hit of the game for Brooklyn. George Gibons pinch hits for Young and makes the 2nd out. Then Cale Bernard doubles, scoring Lord. Beck singles, moving Cale to 3rd. Pop Foster singles, scoring Bernard and sending Beck to 2nd. Crawford grounds out and the Brooklyn mini-rally falls well short.

New York wins 11-2.

They lead the World Series 3-1.

WP - Addie Joss (2-0)
LP - Eddie Plank (0-2)

PoG - Dylan Fullerton

To get the series back to Brooklyn, the Superbas will have to duplicate their Game Two feat of Christy Mathewson defeating Charlie Smith.

The Superbas are on the brink of elimination!

Christy Mathewson vs Charlie Smith!

Top of the 1st

Frank Delahanty walks to lead off the game. With one out, Erve Beck singles, moving Delahanty to 2nd. They attempt a double steal and Roger Bresnahan threw out Beck. Delahanty goes to 3rd. Pop Foster doubles, scoring Delahanty. Sam Crawford singles, scoring Foster. Crawford steals 2nd. He is left there.

Superbas lead 2-0.

Bottom of the 1st

3 up, 3 down

Top of the 2nd

3 up, 3 down

Bottom of the 2nd

3 up, 3 down

Top of the 3rd

Cale Bernard singles with one out. He moves to 2nd on a wild pitch. Erve Beck singles, scoring Bernard. Beck grabs a steal when Foster struck out on a hit & run. Crawford reaches on an error by Bob Unglaub. Beck goes to 3rd. Bresnahan misses a pitch and Beck scores on the passed ball. Crawford goes to 2nd. He stops there.

Superbas lead 4-0

Bottom of the 3rd

Bresnahan reaches on a lead-off, infield single. Rodney Peters also reaches on an infield single, moving Bresnahan to 2nd. Smith laid down a bunt but Delahanty threw out Bresnahan at 3rd. Dylan Fullerton triples, scoring Peters and Smith. Arturo Aguirre grounds out, scoring Fullerton.

Superbas lead 4-3

Top of the 4th

Joe Cassidy reaches on a one out, infield single. Mathewson bunts him over to 2nd. Delahanty doubles, scoring Cassidy.

Superbas lead 5-3

Bottom of the 4th

Unglaub doubles with one out. He gets no further.

Top of the 5th

Beck singles. Foster singles, moving Beck to 2nd. Crawford hits into a double play. Beck goes to 3rd. Pat Locke singles, scoring Beck. It ends there.

Superbas lead 6-3

Bottom of the 5th

With one out, Smith walks. Fullerton hits into a double play.

Top of the 6th

3 up, 3 down

Bottom of the 6th

Mike Donlin singles with two out. He moves to 2nd on an Unglaub single. They are left.

Top of the 7th

3 up, 3 down

Bottom of the 7th

Bresnahan singles to lead off. He then steals 2nd. He moves to 3rd on a Peters fly ball. Harry Lord pinch hits for Smith. With him at bat, Mathewson uncorks a wild pitch, allowing Bresnahan to score.

Frank Owen relieves for New York.
Locke walks with one out. Adam Schmidt hits into a double play.

Bottom of the 8th

Aguirre leads off with a single. He gets no further.

Ismael Cervandas vs Fred Beebe

Back in Brooklyn

Top of the 1st

3 up, 3 down

Bottom of the 1st

Erve Beck singles with two out. He moves to 3rd on a Pop Foster double. They are left.

Top of the 2nd

Mike Donlin reaches on a fielding error by Frank Delahanty. He advances to 2nd on a Bob Unglaub fly ball out. He is then thrown out by Adam Schmidt, trying to steal 3rd.

Bottom of the 2nd

Schmidt singles with one out. He moves to 2nd on a wild pitch by Beebe. Cervandas reaches on an error by Dylan Fullerton. Schmidt goes to 3rd. They are left there.

Top of the 3rd

Roger Bresnahan leads off with an inside-the-park homer. Beebe singles with one out. Arturo Aguirre singles with two out and Beebe goes to 3rd. They are left.

HIGHLANDERS LEAD 1-0

Bottom of the 3rd

Beck singles with one out. Foster singles and both runners get an extra base on an error by Danny Hoffman in centre. Sam Crawford singles, scoring Beck! Pat Locke legs out an infield single, scoring Foster! Crawford moves to 3rd on a flyable by Schmidt. That's it.

SUPERBAS LEAD 2-1

Top of the 4th

Donlin leads off with a triple. He scores on an Unglaub grounder. Phil Dunn reaches on a bunt single. He is thrown out by Schmidt, trying to steal 2nd.

GAME TIED 2-2

Bottom of the 4th

Frank Delahanty singles with one out. He steals 2nd. He gets no further.

Top of the 5th

3 up, 3 down

Bottom of the 5th

Pop Foster doubles to lead off, but hurt himself sliding into 2nd and had to leave the game. Chris Hudson enters as a pinch runner (and will stay to play RF). The Giants intentionally walk Crawford. Hudson moves to 3rd on a deep fly ball by Schmidt, for the 2nd out. The runners are left.

Top of the 6th

3 up, 3 down

Bottom of the 6th

Jose Martinez pinch hits for Cervandas. He singles and then steals 2nd. He stops there.

Top of the 7th

Cy Young relieves for Brooklyn.
Bresnahan triples with two out. The Superbas should have stopped him there but Erve Beck muffed a grounder by pinch hitter Harry Lord, allowing Bresnahan to score.

HIGHLANDERS LEAD 3-2

Bottom of the 7th

Hudson leads off with a single. He is thrown out trying to steal 2nd.

Top of the 8th

Fullerton reaches on a an error by Joe Cassidy. He goes to 2nd on a sac bunt by Aguirre. He stops there.

Bottom of the 8th

Schmidt leads off with a single. He moves to 2nd on a ground out by Cassidy. Alonso Hernandez replaces Schmidt as a pinch runner. George Gibson pinch hits for Young. He flies out. Bris Lord pinch hits for Delahanty. He fouls out.

Top of the 9th

Gibson stays in to catch. Hernandez stays in to play 1B. Charlie Rhodes relieves.
3 up, 3 down

Bottom of the 9th

Cale Bernard strikes out.
Erve Beck grounds out.
Chris Hudson flies out.

The Highlanders win 3-2 and win the WORLD SERIES 4 games to 2!
