1916 Hall of Fame

Jeff Marcum, RHP

A 4-time all-star and World Series Champ who played 11 out of his 12 years for the Minnesota Twins. He only gave up 24 HR in his career which is tiny, even for a time when nobody hits home runs. He had several very good seasons and transitioned into a closer role in his late 30s.

Career Stats: 2807.3 IP, 670 BB, 1199 K, 2.40 FIP, 86 FIP-, 56.1 WAR

Ramon Jiron, LHP

He made 3 all-star teams and performed at a high level for the better part of 7 years. In 1904, he finished 3rd in the Pitcher of the Year voting.

Career Stats: 2519.7 IP, 559 BB, 1422 K, 2.35 FIP, 85 FIP-, 50.9 WAR

Dana Clavez, CF

Clavez's heyday was so long ago it may be difficult to remember. He did come onto the scene running wild along with a few other young players in the early 1900s. He spent his entire MLB career with the Braves, with the exception of the second half of 1907 when he was traded to the Devil Rays.

He won the inaugural NL Rookie of the Year award and was named to two all-star teams and won a silver slugger. His 863 stolen bases currently ranks 4th all-time.

Career Stats: 6766 PA, 863 SB, .318 wOBA, 108 wRC+, 96.5 ZR, 43.5 WAR

Chris Taylor, RHP

Taylor won a gold glove in 1912 and pitched a no-hitter in 1907 against the Giants. He was a good middle of the rotation starter, spending most of his career with the Athletics.

Career Stats: 2918 IP, 719 BB, 882 K, 2.83 FIP, 105 FIP-, 31.4 WAR

Chris Becker, LHP

Becker went to the all-star game 8 times over his career, was the 1904 AL Reliever of the Year, the 1904 AL Division Series MVP, and a World Series winner. He is one of only 4 players who currently have more than 300 career saves.

Career Stats: 903.7 IP, 230 BB, 561 K, 324 SV, 2.06 FIP, 72 FIP-, 32.8 WPA, 23.3 WAR

Ken Schneider, RF

Schneider won the Gold Glove twice, was a 3-time all-star, and won a silver slugger. His peak was above average, but he dropped sharply off the cliff in his 30s.

Career Stats: 5764 PA, .329 wOBA, 118 wRC+, 67.1 ZR, 21.1 WAR

Kyle Reifer, LHP

Reifer made 4 all-star games and won a reliever of the year award. He provided a ton of value and didn't allow very much to get past him. He retired somewhat prematurely at the age of 30.

Career Stats: 475.7 IP, 186 BB, 425 K, 187 SV, 1.74 FIP, 59 FIP-, 17.6 WPA, 17.6 WAR

Alfredo Olivarria, LHP

Olivarria pitched for a very long time but didn't provide as much value. He spent 12 years in the relief role, appearing in 513 games. He went to one all-star game and won two World Series.

Career Stats: 644.7 IP, 122 BB, 290 K, 171 SV, 2.31 FIP, 80 FIP-, 12.5 WPA, 11.5 WAR

1916 Top Players Under Age 30

Justin Zygmunt, RHP

2-time Pitcher of the Year, 2-time All-Star, and 1913 Rookie of the Year. He has dominated the league in almost every category and will look to continue it as his career progresses. He was a 7th round pick in 1908 out of Cape Fear in North Carolina.

Jeremy Thompson, RHP

Went to the all-star game in 1914, drafted in the 5th round of 1906 out of a New York high school. He was ranked as highly as the #26 prospect before sticking in the major leagues and has put up solid 3-4 WAR seasons 6 years in a row.

Jameson Worren, RHP

A 1st round pick by the Orioles in 1906 out of a New York high school. He is currently on the shelf due to a torn flexor tendon but prior to that had put up two straight seasons of over 5 WAR.

Lewis Brennan, SS

He has elite defense at SS but is spending much of his time at 1B instead because of the other defensive options on the Phillies. He's a 3-time gold glover and also a Rookie of the Year winner. Brennan was drafted in the 3rd round by the Giants out of North Carolina high school.

Tucker Holley, 2B

An elite defender with everything but a good arm. He was the 10th overall pick in 1911 from Washington. He's a silver slugger, all-star, NL championship MVP, and World Series winner.

Vladimiro Trejo, CF

Trejo is good but already fragile at 24 years old. He won the 1914 MVP, has been to one all-star game, and won 4 silver sluggers. Apart from his one MVP season, he has settled in as an above-average regular. He was a scouting discovery by the Marlins in 1908.

1917 MLB Playoffs

The Braves have been slightly below average so far with a .490 winning percentage over 18 years, but they won their first World Series this year. 1910 overall 1st draft pick Derek Abraham was the NL Championship and World Series MVP.

1917 Where Are They Now?

Top Prospects:
Kyle Matthews - The top overall prospect in 1912, coming from out of nowhere, drafted in the 15th round. He has had a few replacement level seasons and a couple average seasons in the major leagues.

Del Ayling - The top pitching prospect in 1912 has not cracked a major league roster and probably never will. He's now 27 years old and his career arc is going the wrong way.

Draftees:
Phoenix Amoss - Amoss was a top draft prospect in 1912 but failed to sign after getting drafted in the 4th round. He went to college and dominated and finally made it to the majors last year, winning the MVP this year.

Wilbur Primm - The top college draftee in 1912 spent a couple years in the minor leagues and debuted with the Angels in 1915. He has had a few injury issues but is somewhere near an average major league player.

Jacob Mansi - Mansi made his Major League debut in 1915 as a reliever and has yet to start a major league game. He has been used primarily as a starter in the minor leagues but his changeup never developed at all.

D.J Leverton - The first overall draft pick out of Weatherford, Texas. He made his debut in 1915 at 21 years old and has really come into his own, finishing 3rd in the AL MVP voting this year as well as winning the CF Gold Glove.

Award Winners:
Bill Desmond - Desmond had a few very good years, winning two MVP awards and making 4 all-star teams but his value has dropped now that he is in his 30s.

Marco Gasca - The 1912 ROY. He followed that up with a very good season in 1914 for the Royals but then dropped to a replacement to average player.

Other:
Neal Worthington - He set the major league longest hitting streak at 35 games which still stands today. He was never really all that good and last played in the major leagues in 1915. He spent 1916 in the Atlantic League and retired from the game at the end of the season.

Joe Hubbard - The top free agent in 1912 really hit a hard road once he turned 34 and tore his flexor tendon. He has been a middle of the rotation starter and reliever for the Blue Jays.
