As I continue on this topic that only I care about.................

Jay Bilas wrote an article on this topic for ESPNW. Just an excerpt from the article......

Quote:
Savarese repeated several times that he truly believes in the educational value of athletics, and the lessons it teaches us all. He was quite pleasant, but said he was being made out to be the "culprit in all this."

I asked Savarese whether he had ever encountered a case of similar nature in his 44 years as an educator. He said, "No, never. Not anything similar to this. I have had a few eligibility cases in the past, but nothing at all like this." I asked about the decision-making process, and Savarese replied that whenever he is notified of a violation, he works with the school to apply punishment. I asked exactly who makes the decision on an eligibility case. He replied, "I do." I asked if it was his sole discretion. He said, "Yes. I decide all such cases. I am the absolute authority in these cases." Savarese was pleasant in tone when discussing this matter. After again referring to his 44 years as an educator, I asked him what lesson is to be learned from this case, and at whom the lesson is aimed.

His tone changed. Savarese said, "The lesson to be learned here is for the adults that have the responsibility to inform the student-athlete of the rules. It is the responsibility of other parties, school officials, USA Basketball who only had to make a phone call, and her mom who is an assistant coach. She should know better. We work with outside agencies all the time. We work with Nike. All USA Basketball had to do was make a phone call."
So 2 things from me.......how is it unfair for people to make him "the culprit" when he admits it was his decision alone? You are the culprit you obnoxious, non-sympathetic butthead!

Two, the lesson is for the adults? So they were disciplined by......what exactly? Did they get suspended? Reprimanded? Tasered? Had their rations cut in half? Had their nose hit w/a rolled up newspaper? No! Nothing! But you punished the teenager. It's the student who is suffering. Not the grown ups. Savarese would refuse to look @ the moon to teach the sun a lesson.

Any movement to remove this mule headed jerk from office gets my full support.

It's preposterous to claim playing for Team USA affects her amateur status.

Even if you subscribe to the "rules are rules" dictum, the punishment in this case is not proportional to the infraction.

There's little doubt that if it was a white, male player who was committed to an in-state school this would have been handled differently.

Thing is, how many people out there think getting paid for your expenses playing for your country makes you a professional?

Two, how many people out there think you SHOULD get paid for your expenses when playing for your country?
