Not sure if this is the right spot, but in an online league, as we progressed from '68 to '69, the players on the AAA teams that in real life moved to the new American Association were all released.

I've seen players move to the "Designated for assignment" area when an affiliate team is removed, but these players were moved to free agency.

This also happened with the Dixie Association ('71 to '72) on a solo league last year.

I ran a test '68 to '69 solo league this morning to confirm it happened outside of the online environment, and it did. First day of the offseason and the players are released.

Let me know if I should post this elsewhere, or whatever help I can try to supply.

The Dixie Association does not exist in 1972 in OOTP

The American Association does not exist in 1968 in OOTP

These could be the root causes of these issues.

Right. Sorry, I think I was unclear. In the latter instance, I'm the Houston GM, and my AAA affiliate, the Oklahoma City 89ers, was in the Pacific Coast League in 1968. When the game hits the offseason, the team is accurately moved (or deleted and recreated) to the American Association, but the players don't stay with the team. They are moved into the free agent pool.

In the former instance, I was GM the Cardinals, the same occurence happened with the Arkansas Travelers. In the Dixie Association for '71, accurately moved back to the Texas League for '72, but the players don't follow and are moved to the free agent pool.

They should stay with the organization, correct?

Yes they should if the AI is in control.

With a human GM I do not know how it is supposed to work.

I looked it up and saw that Sutcliffe was actually acquired in a June trade from Cleveland (like I said, I only sort of remember that season. I was 9.) So I looked up who the Cubs traded to get Sutcliffe and saw one of the names was Joe Carter. I wanted to see if I could get the same trade through, but I couldn't find Joe Carter. So I searched for him, and I found him already on Cleveland's roster. So Cleveland has Carter AND the player they should have had to trade to get Carter, and the Cubs have neither of them.

If this gamer starts in 1983 Carter is on the Cubs, if he starts in 1984 Carter is already on the Indians because this gamer did not choose to use the historical minor leagues which is where Carter played in 1984 before the trade
BUT
even if he had chosen historical minors Carter would never have been traded to the Indians because unless the league starts before 1914 you cannot choose to have both historical transactions and historical minor leagues active at the same time.
AND
if he had chosen historical transactions and started in 1984 Sutcliffe would have been sent to the Cubs for nothing but if he had started in 1983 the Carter-Sutcliffe transaction would have occurred.

So it all depends on the choices the gamer makes when starting his league.

That is possibly a program bug not a historical database bug. As such I for one have no idea how long the wait time might be.

Jacque Jones Incorrect ID

I am trying to import Jacque Jones from when he was on the Twins in 2002. His Bref page is here:

https://www.baseball-reference.com/p...onesja05.shtml

His id should be: jonesja05

When I use that ID, the game imports someone named Jason Jones. I used jonesja04 and it imports Jacque. Any ideas why the id is different from BREF?

OOTP uses Lahman ID's until version 17 and then switches to BBREF id's for MLB players.

A bit stunned (and perhaps just stupid)
Used to import with the Lahmans ID, since it's easy shown.
Now this BBREF id's is to be found where ?

Using baseball-reference 99% of the time on players, but I can't see this BBREF id's. Using Jacque Jones as an example and the mentioned jonesja05 is the only one I can see.

How do I get to know what BBREF id for a player. I read somewhere that in most cases the BBREF is the same as Lahman, but that is as much I know about BBREFs.

No idea how to find the few that are different is what I have. Maybe cannot?

jonesja04 is the one thou art looking for.

the Id's are in the URL at the top of the player's page ..... Babe Ruth is found:
https://www.baseball-reference.com/p...ruthba01.shtml
so the ID would be ruthba01
Bobby Bonds would be
https://www.baseball-reference.com/p...ondsbo01.shtml his Id would be:
bondsbo01
a bit convoluted, but it's there. hope this helps.

edit:just ran a test import with Bobby Bonds - worked fine with the Bref id.

But hey now I am even more confused.

Those Babe and Bonds IDs are the "normal" Lahmans ID, isn't it ?
Just as the issue with Jacque Jones. I've always used these but I understood that this "other" ID is in some cases different, as in the mentioned Mr Jones.

Why the problem with importing Jones couldn't be made with the ID, visual in the "html" line as mentioned. Bonds and Ruth probably have the same IDs in both cases, but Jones obviously have not.
Spritze you mentioned that Jones should be imported with another ID, so of course I ask were to find such ID.

I could have let it go, since I haven't had the problem, but I guess "subtle" will have to find out if he would like to import Jones.

The mentioned jonesja04 brings up a totally different player: Jason Jones.

https://www.baseball-reference.com/p...onesja04.shtml

My strange conclusion would be the DB is wrong.....

Look through this thread and the negro league thread and you will see dozens of cross linked players with differing ids. They get fixed one by one as the id also affects their minor league records..

Thousand of id's were updated for ootp 17 but if names were spelled different or birthdates were different the id update was skipped on porpoise.

The various Jones will be updated and the fixes will appear in ootp19.

they may be - i didn't check. i don't use the default DB, rather Sprtize's and a "few" computer generated and self created players. All i was trying to do was show you WHERE to find them on Bref.......

The "minor league San Diego Padres (pre-1969) being classified as major league" issue is still a thing? I'm looking up Red Adams (to turn him into a coach and import him as such) and his 1949 stint in SD is listed as being major-league.

I thought that Padres-as-majors was a "known bug" and was getting fixed this go-round?
