Growing up a Twins fan I really enjoyed watching him and was dissappointed when they dealt him to the Angels.

I wasn't a Twins fan (Dodgers first then Angels), but was a fan of Bostock's before he came to the Angels. I was so happy when he became an Angel.

Was he dealt or a Free Agent? The article mentions the Angels winning a bidding war with the Yankees.

Calvin was selling off everybody back then and letting them walk, frankly I don't remember which it was, just that Bostock was gone then soon Carew was too.

Yep, another one I enjoyed seeing on the Angels. The man of a 1000 batting stances. Hisle was another one who went to the Brewers IIRC.

Today's player that I have never, ever heard off until five minutes ago:

Adolfo Phillips (1967 One Hit Wonder card)

Card looks good. Wonder why his career didn't work out. After some reading around on the internet, it seems like he was a bit of a ****.

For example, Mickey Vernon was universally considered one of the finest fielding 1B in the game, and yet sucks here. I think Joe DiMaggio´s best rating in CF is 75, while Duke Snider is in the 50s, neither of which are an accurate assessment of their skills. Harry Hooper is another problem child. On the flip side, there are a few guys, such as Jay Bell, that I believe are rated much too highly. The developers really need to do their homework better on the defense and take into account what gloves were in use at the time and rate accordingly.
Sorry for the rant, but the old-timers are more real to me than modern players.
That and other speed, baserunning is questionable to me.
I think they must normalize all the players and give edge to new players because welll everyone is faster and stronger and steroided up??

Had older players had the benefit of video, sabermaterics, exact positioning, EQUIPMENT, strength training surely they would have higher ratings.

I don't think any anecdotal evidence is used.
ie
I just watched 1976 all star gave with Randy Jones and they raved about his sinker ball (and he did look impressive).....my card just has average sinkerball

As a lifelong Twins fan I listened to many games with Bostock in there. Isn't that originally a Babe Ruth quote? I could be wrong. I am paraphrasing but a reporter said "You make more than the president, do you think that's right? Ruth responded with "I had a better year than he had".
