That's really cool

I've played 1871 a million way till Sunday and only the Washington Olympics win. Boston never wins. In 72 New York always wins, Baltimore second and Boston third. Then Boston wins the rest. I have a functional transaction list for the entire National Association. I also have a functional transaction list for the NL from 1876-1882, and a list for the AA in 1882. I'm working on 1883 at the moment. The only thing is you have can't have any computer controlled teams. I have injuries and trades off and players retire as they did IRL. Your seasons are great. Keep posting the results.

As for the UA and PL: If you skip the UA the world won't end. But what are you going to do with the players that year? The PL in 1890 HAS to be played. The one year the players stood up for themselves and created something of their own. Of course it fell apart, but many of the very best of the NL and AA went to the PL for that season. It needs to be played. My opinion. For me? For all the work it takes to play19th century ball I OOTP I feel compelled to play 1884 with three leagues.

If you are curious to see the transaction list feel free to PM me.

I may have the game enter the UA teams into the AA and then delete the UA teams and put the players in the free agency pool. Those players would all be rookies. I could then move them acording to history. But I may just set the UA up as another league.

I use human manager for teams as well but I give AI control over lineups. I don't allow AI to make roster changes. Otherwise expansion teams will sign the wrong players. I do find that I have to select let the AI choose pitching staff or else the wrong pitcher may be chosen.

Nice

I really feel better that you have the managers too. I do that too. I've also gone so far as to have active rosters of 9 or 10 and switch out. If there was a pitcher that pitched one game, he pitches one game and that's that. That way everyone on the roster has played at least one game that season. That's a good idea for the UA if you're not going to play it.

As i simmed up to preseason 1881 i noticed something weird about the 1880 awards. a pitcher wins the mvp but not the cy young award. I thought he would naturally win both. Not something im complaining about because i like to have the controversy in a league. Gives it more life. Who knows what voters are thinking. Anyway heres a pic of the awards.

Remember that Monte Ward was a very good hitter IRL. It may very well be that the value of his hitting plus pitching outweighs the value of Jim McCormick's hitting plus pitching, and therefore Ward would be the more valuable overall player of the two. Looks to me like he's the better pitcher too, given that he pitched 120 innings more than McCormick at a very high level (perhaps not as high a level, but 120 innings is a helluva lot), but that's just my reading based on limited data. You could choose your own awards to overcome this, or (as you said) just leave the controversy as is.

One year in my random debut league, I chose Kelvim Escobar for the Cy Young Award, and Don Drysdale for the Babe Ruth Award (MVP). Escobar was clearly the better pitcher of the two, but when hitting and fielding were factored in Escobar slipped to fourth in MVP, allowing Allie Reynolds and Bret Saberhagen to slide in ahead of him. Bob Meusel and Dustin Pedroia were fifth and sixth respectively in a very close race (the closest I've ever seen). It's the only time I've ever done it in 16 seasons of picking awards, but it seemed right at the time, so I went with it.

Wards batting avg was .272 and McCormick's was .241.
I can understand Ward getting the MVP over McCormick but its McCormick getting the CY Young award over Ward that has me puzzled. Ward won the 2nd most games in the leagues history.
