So, they elected to start Masahiro Tanaka(R, 5-10 3.37).

Blue Jays Beat Phillies in 11

The Philadelphia Phillies got a superb performance from pitcher Masahiro Tanaka, but the Toronto Blue Jays still won the game, 3-1. Tanaka was named the player of the game despite the loss. He threw 8 innings of shutout ball. Toronto reliever Luke Gregerson picked up the win, upping his record to 7-5. Antonio Bastardo absorbed the loss. Toronto leads the American League Eastern Division by 9 games.

The most critical at-bat came in the top of the 11th inning. With two out, Edwin Encarnacion hit a 2-2 fastball from Antonio Bastardo for a 2-run home run. It put Toronto in front, 3-1. For Encarnacion, it was his 32nd home run of the season.

"Tough ballgame, tough loss," said Philadelphia manager Rick Schu. Masahiro Tanaka went eight scoreless frames of 6-hit ball, striking out 11, outpitched Tommy Milone(8IP 1ER) but got the no-decision when Jonathan Papelbon blew the save.

Blue Jays Fall Short in Middle Innings, Lose 6-5

Philadelphia and Toronto put this game in the books despite some rain.

The Philadelphia Phillies grabbed a 6-5 win over the Toronto Blue Jays at Citizens Bank Park. Philadelphia first baseman Victor Martinez was 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 3 runs and drove in 2 to earn player of the game honors. Jonathan Pettibone earned the win to go to 9-5. He allowed 5 earned runs on 10 hits, with no walks and 7 strikeouts.

Zephyrhills, Florida-born Domonic Brown came through in the clutch. In the bottom of the fifth, with a runner on 1st and the Phillies trailing 3-2, he hit a 2-run home run to center to put Philadelphia on top.

Brown told a Philadelphia Daily News reporter that he was "satisfied" with the win. Philadelphia is now 57-63.

Jays Win 5-4 On Bullpen Day as Seaton Leaves Injured

The Blue Jays had to overcome a fine effort from Los Angeles pitcher Tommy Hanson to grab a narrow 5-4 win at Angel Stadium of Anaheim. Hanson went 7 innings and allowed no earned runs. Toronto reliever Bud Norris was the winner. His record is now 6-2. The losing pitcher was Tommy Hanson. Luke Gregerson closed the game out for Toronto, earning his 29th save.

The Blue Jays used some clutch hitting to beat the Angels, a good example being the at-bat of Jorge Soler in the top of the fourth. With two down, Soler gave his team the lead, 4-2, when he hit a 2-run single.

"We found a way to get it done," Soler said. Their bullpen had to work hard as Ross Seaton left the game after the first inning. "It is a mild arm injury, can't tell you more," Blue Jays manager John Gibbons told the media after the game.

Toronto goes to 74-48. The win puts them 8½ games up in their division.

Nationals SP Stephen Terry(25, 5*) pitched eight innings of 1-run(0ER) ball, walking none, striking out 11 and yielding four hits in a 4-1 victory over Milwaukee. The ace righty also missed three months with shoulder inflammation, going 3-4 2.44 109K in 12 starts off the DL.

Blue Jays Come Back Late to Top Angels, But Lose Lawrie

Los Angeles got a terrific performance from pitcher Jered Weaver, but it wasn't enough to beat the Toronto Blue Jays. Toronto won the Angel Stadium of Anaheim contest, 7-4. Weaver was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 5 innings of shutout ball. Toronto reliever Joba Chamberlain was credited with the win, to go to 5-0. Brad Brach took the loss for Los Angeles. Their 75-48 record puts the Blue Jays first in the American League Eastern Division.

Troy Tulowitzki's hit in the top of the ninth was a game-changer. With two out, he rapped a fastball from Brad Brach for a 3-run home run. It put Toronto in front, 7-4. "This team is on a mission," said Tulowitzki, who is one of the clubhouse leaders. "I like our focus."

They will be without their third baseman, Brett Lawrie, as he strained his lat and will be out for 2 weeks. With Nick Castellanos able to play third, they will most likely look to call up an outfielder.

Alvarez Finishes Off Angels

The Toronto Blue Jays knocked off the Los Angeles Angels, 6-1. Toronto starter Henderson Alvarez pitched well enough to earn top player honors. Los Angeles, at 65-59, has lost 4 straight.

Alvarez, a native of Valencia, Venezuela, was dealing all game. He kept Los Angeles hitters off-balance, while giving the Blue Jays 9 quality innings. Alvarez threw 108 pitches, allowing 6 hits and striking out 8.

"We've got a great group of guys," Alvarez said, "and we're having fun right now." They ultimately broke the game open in the seventh with Josh Rutledge, Troy Tulowitzki and Anthony Rizzo taking part in a four-run inning.

Another first: rookie left fielder D.J. Davis collected his first career hit, a third inning infield single. He later stole second and scored for a nice MLB debut.

Toshinobu Sakamoto was instrumental in his team's 8-2 triumph over the Toronto Blue Jays. The center fielder was 3-4 with 2 home runs. He drove in 5 runs and scored twice for the Texas Rangers. Neftali Feliz picked up the win, improving his season record to 10-9. He struck out 7 in 6 innings. Texas has now won 5 in a row.

The Rangers got a big at-bat from catcher Kellin Deglan. For the game, Deglan was 2-4 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the fourth, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 16th home run of the season gave Texas a 2-0 lead.

"We had a nice day," said Texas skipper Travis Fryman. On the flip side, it was a pretty rotten day for Toronto as their starter was hit for 5ER and they collected another injury. Over 7 innings, he allowed 4 runs on 10 hits, with no walks and 7 strikeouts. The first-place Blue Jays improved to 78-51.

Early in the game, shortstop Troy Tulowitzki had a 3-run home run for Toronto. It was his 25th home run of the season and put the Blue Jays on top, 3-1.

"We did more than enough to get the win," said d'Arnaud. The Blue Jays banged out 18 hits and it was a happy day for 22-year old Dwight Smith Jr. as he collected his first couple of MLB hits, his first RBI AND his first stolen base today.

Tigers Escape Toronto with 5-4 Win

Detroit third baseman Miguel Cabrera was a significant contributor in his team's 5-4 triumph over the Toronto Blue Jays. He went 2-4 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2 for Detroit. Detroit reliever Kenny Faulk picked up the win, upping his record to 5-5. Luke Gregerson was saddled with the loss. Al Alburquerque finished the game for Detroit and earned his 14th save.

Cabrera had a game-changing home run in the top of the ninth. On a 2-2 changeup from Luke Gregerson, he banged a 2-run home run to left, giving the Tigers a 5-4 lead. It was the 23rd home run of the year for Cabrera.

"We'll relax tonight and enjoy this win," said Cabrera. Detroit is now 62-69, Toronto 78-52. The Blue Jays managed home runs by Edwin Encarnacion and Melky Mesa, but did little outside of that.

The team will stay at home and start a three game set with the 63-66 Indians and 3B Lonnie Chisenhall(.276-13-56 .739OPS).

Week 22: 3vs Cleveland Indians(63-66), 3vs Baltimore Orioles(47-83)

August 31st

Rizzo Walk Off Jack Wins it for Toronto

Toronto Blue Jays starter Jhoulys Chacin turned in a sterling performance against the Cleveland Indians, leading his team to a slim 3-2 win. He pitched eight innings of 1-run ball, but had to watch some ninth inning shenanigans. Toronto goes to 79-52. The win puts them 8½ games up in their division.

Anthony Rizzo was the walk-off hero for Toronto. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Blue Jays first baseman hit a dramatic solo home run to send the teams home. Rizzo attributed the win to "a well-rounded effort by the whole team." The first baseman is batting .285 with 17 home runs, 67RBI's and 56 runs scored.

Usually automatic closer Luke Gregerson left after one out due to some hamstring soreness, but fortunately, according to team trainer George Poulis, it nothing to write home about. "It will not affect his throwing, and therefore he will be fine. The soreness should be gone in a week. "

With 18-9, it was our best month since April and puts us into pole position for the division with all of September and four games in October to go … time to win our first division crown since 1993. Excitement is at an all-time high in Canada as our attendance is up to 45.300 per game, +8.4%, and we are charging $27.50 per ticket so... Our owner will be rather happy, the every absent Mr. Henderson will be rather happy as we are now projected to be $5M in the black... without playoff revenue.

As for September callups, we decided against putting Daniel Norris or Aaron Sanchez on the 40-man and called up the usual suspects, Cecil, Jeffress, Hardy, Reynolds, Jimenez and Zawadzki with Hembree, D.J. Davis and Smith Jr. already up here due to injuries.

Yes, we have been a bit conservative with those DL stints, but what is the point in playing an ailing Brett Lawrie or Ross Seaton and then lose them for the playoffs? We have 8.5 games of cushion and in a week, every regular should be back on board.

And then, there is the curious case of Jose Bautista... surprise, he will return off the DL in 1-2 weeks, and probably return to our lineup and continue to suck, gets benched again for the playoffs and sees his player option getting voided... which would be a sad end of his Blue Jays career

Of course, someof our starting pitching prospect get hit by multi month injuries that sound scary, labrum, shoulder, at the end of the season. A little reminder, our big rookie league arm, Octαvio Romαn, the 18-year old DR kid that we payed $7.1M for, is our for 7 more month with a partially torn UCL...

Anyways, our MLB staff is quite solid with Santiago on top and Seaton and Alvarez behind him. I still think that Henderson is overachiving a bit, but do I care if it works?

Of course, Nick Castellanos has hit .211 in the #2 sport, and of course he has hit .358 in the #8 spot... and of course, Josh Rutledge has hit .324 against RHP in the #8 spot last month... Either, there is some vodoo magic in this #8 spot, or the pressure batting second is getting to both... We swap them back for now...

Either way, we will play our youngsters for the next week before Soler and Lawrie return, and how we manage our lineup when Bautista is back... The AAA season ends on October 7th so a rehab assignment for him is unlikely... and there still is the outside shot that he starts performing to his scouting report...

Outside of that conundrum, Julio Borbon continued his fairy tale, hitting .308 in August and in my oppinion, Edwin had a shot at Player of the Month, batting .325-8-15 1.097OPS for us. On the flipside, Anthony Rizzo has stuggled once again with a .223 month, and IF Bautista gets hot, the DH spot could be his with Edwin moving to first for some games.

PS: Despite his torrid 2015 season in A Lansing, all scouts have Cavan Biggio as a 3* ceiling player... but boy, he looks mighty good down there.

2015 Week 22 Part 2

Week 22: 3vs Cleveland Indians(63-66), 3vs Baltimore Orioles(47-83)

September 1st

Edwin Mashes Two on Bad Day for Starters

The first-place Toronto Blue Jays took on the Cleveland Indians at the Skydome.

The Toronto Blue Jays grabbed a 9-5 win over the Cleveland Indians at the Skydome. Toronto designated hitter Edwin Encarnacion hit 2 home runs, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice to earn player of the game honors. Cleveland has now lost 4 in a row.

The Blue Jays got a big at-bat from shortstop Troy Tulowitzki. For the game, Tulowitzki went 1 for 4 with a home run and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the fifth, with a runner on 2nd, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 26th home run of the season gave Toronto a 5-4 lead.

"The boys were really swinging the bats today," winning manager John Gibbons said. Their first victim today was Kris Medlen who allowed four earned runs in four innings and left with some kind of discomfort. "We will wait what the doctors have to say, no reason to fuel speculation," Indians manager Terry Francona told the media.

Bud Norris also did not audition well for more starts as he yielded four runs through five, including an embarrasing sequence in the fifth where he not only allowed a 2-run single to Carlos Santana, but then balked TWICE to bring home another run.

Well, Jorge Soler tripped over his cat, little Mrs. Cubbie, and aggrevated his knee contusion. That is not the end of the world... as his DL stint ends in eight days, and he will be healthy in six so...

Rizzo Leads Jays to 6-3 Win

Anthony Rizzo helped his team muscle past the Cleveland Indians, 6-3. In the game, the Toronto first baseman hit 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. Hector Santiago picked up the win with 7 innings of work. He allowed 3 earned runs on 5 hits, while walking 0 and striking out 12. On the season, he is now 13-3. Cleveland, at 63-69, has lost 5 straight.

Rizzo had an important at-bat with a runner on 2nd in the bottom of the sixth, when he hit a 2-run home run. It was his second home run of the day as he was 2-3 2R 3RBI with a walk and to homers. The Blue Jays went on to win.

"Enjoyed this one," Rizzo told the Toronto Star. "But it's back to work tomorrow." Rizzo has not had an OPS over .800 since his 2013 season and is looking to change that. "Time to get going, I had a forgettable year in regards to power," he said.

He will get another chance to do so after an offday tomorrow, with Toronto hosting the 48-85 Orioles and third baseman Manny Machado(.290-17-57 .775OPS) for three.

Blue Jays Mount Comeback to Beat Baltimore, 7-6

Toronto left fielder D.J. Davis had a 3-RBI game, which helped his team beat the Baltimore Orioles, 7-6. Davis was 2-4 with a run scored, three RBI's, and his first career home run, a 2-run home run off Oliver Drake in the fourth. The Blue Jays have now won 4 straight.

One important at-bat came with runners on 1st and 3rd in the bottom of the seventh inning. Facing Baltimore hurler Zach Britton, Troy Tulowitzki, who is tied for 6th in the AL in hits with 147, hit a sacrifice fly. The Blue Jays went on to win.

"If you want to be considered a good team, these are the kind of games you have to win," said Toronto manager John Gibbons. It was a bad day for Toronto starter Henderson Alvarez who was hit around for eleven hits and five earned runs through four innings.

"Gotta stay focused, got to return in five days and try to win again," he twittered after the game.

Red alert in Texas. The 85-48 Rangers just had to put 2014 AL Cy Young winner Yu Darvish(29, 4.5*) on the 15-day DL. The righty suffered from elbow inflammation and team doctors say he will need three weeks of rest and 1-2 weeks to amp it back up. That means that the 14-8 2.58 223K starter may miss most of the playoffs.

Red Hot Rutledge Walks Off Orioles!

Manny Machado had a good game, but he could not keep the Baltimore Orioles from falling, 7-6, to the Toronto Blue Jays at the Skydome. The Baltimore third baseman was 4 for 5 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2 in the loss. Toronto has run its win streak to 5 in a row.

Toronto took a 7-6 lead on Josh Rutledge's 143rd hit of the season. The run-scoring single, which Rutledge hit in the bottom of the tenth, left Baltimore pitcher Casey Janssen shaking his head.

"Nice to put this one in the win column," said Rutledge. Since he was moved back in the #2 spot on September 1st, Rutledge is 10-16 with five runs, two RBIs, three walks, four stolen bases and four doubles.

For Baltimore, Dylan Bundy was firmly in control and left after seven innings of 3-run, 7-hit and 11 strikeout ball, but his bullpen let him down today.

Royals SP Wade Davis(29, 1*) was the king of weak contact today, needing only 94 pitches to throw 8.1 shutout innings of 3-hit, 1BB and 5K ball while beating Chicago 2-0. For the 29-year old, it was his longest outing of the season and pushed him to 8-8 4.13 118K in 28 starts.

Seaton Goes 6.1 Scoreless as Toronto Wins 6 Straight

Toronto right-hander Ross Seaton made an effective start against the Baltimore Orioles at the Skydome, leading his team to a 6-4 win. Returning from a pesky forearm problem, he threw 6.1 scoreless innings of 4-hit, 0BB and 7K ball on 83 pitches. Toronto has now reeled off 6 straight wins.

The Blue Jays beat the Orioles in part due to timely hitting. Case in point: the two-out single Josh Rutledge produced in the bottom of the third. Batting against Baltimore pitcher Edinson Volquez, Rutledge gave his team a 1-0 lead when he hit a run-scoring single.

"This team is real focused right now," said Toronto manager John Gibbons. A man who did not look really focused was righty reliever Heath Hembree. Part of the trade that sent now #22 prospect CF Tyler Gibson to San Francisco(Don't ask...), he blew up in the ninth and yielded four earned before Luke Gregerson slammed that door shut for his 33rd save.

Toronto will look to add to their winning streak with four @Boston(72-64) and right fielder Bryce Brentz(.243-24-75 .763OPS) starting tomorrow.

Red-Hot Bat: Adames Collects Cycle
thestar.com
September 7th, 2015

At PETCO Park today, Cristhian Adames led Colorado to a 8-7 victory over the San Diego Padres by hitting for the cycle, one of baseball's more difficult feats.

"Usually the triple is the hardest one to get, but I was most worried about the homer today because the ball wasn't carrying," Adames said later. "When I took it deep, I was expecting the ball to die on the warning track, so it was sweet seeing the ump give me the signal to circle the bases."

In addition to going 4-for-4, Adames chalked up 2 runs batted in and scored 3 runs in an exceptional performance.

Cristhian Adames singled in the 2nd, hit an RBI triple in the 4th, doubled in the 6th and hit a solo-shot off Brad Boxberger in the 8th.

Currently Adames is batting .335 with 10 home runs and 59 RBIs, leading the NL batting race by whooping 25 points. Adames was signed as a international free agent in 2007.

Blue Jays Lose, 7-5 at Fenway Park

Boston starter Jon Lester pitched effectively against the Toronto Blue Jays at Fenway Park. The left-hander led his team to a 7-5 win. Lester went 6 innings to notch the win. He scattered 4 hits, walked 1, and struck out 6. His record improves to 15-9. Mike Adams, credited with the save, is now 3 for 6 in save opportunities.

In the bottom of the third, Jackie Bradley Jr. hit a 2-run home run for Boston. The 11th home run of the season for the Boston center fielder put the Red Sox on top, 3-2. "We'll grab a cold one tonight and go after another win tomorrow," Lester said.

The winning streak has now reached 4 games for Boston while Toronto's 6 game winning streak ended with that result. They got themselves a 2-0 after a Tulowitzki solo home run and Julio Borbon sac fly, but Jhoulys Chacin was not able to keep them off the scoreboard and was hit for 6ER.

Brentz Delivers Clutch At-Bat in Walk-Off Win

Despite a great performance by Toronto second baseman Josh Rutledge, the Boston Red Sox defeated the Blue Jays by the score of 6-5 at Fenway Park. Rutledge belted 2 home runs, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice. Steven Wright, credited with the win, is now 1-0. He allowed no runs on no hits in 1 innings. This win makes it 5 in a row for Boston.

The Red Sox got a big at-bat from right fielder Bryce Brentz. For the game, Brentz was 2 for 7 with a double, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the 13th, with the bases loaded, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 126th hit of the season gave Boston a 6-5 lead.

"I like how we're playing right now," said Brentz. John Gibbons, the manager of Toronto, was not pleased with his team however. "We have to stop striking out 19 times in a game like this. We had runner in scoring position in extra innings, and players went for the big hack instead for the RBI-single. That has to stop," he said.

Given the fact that Boston's starter Chris Hernandez left the game injured after the first and they faced the Red Sox bullpen allthe way till the end, his anger is understandable.

The Toronto Blue Jays stopped the Boston Red Sox, 5-3, at Fenway Park. The Blue Jays got a big game from Anthony Rizzo, who hit 2 home runs. He drove in 5 runs and scored twice. Henderson Alvarez got credit for the win, improving to 15-6. He allowed 3 runs on 10 hits in 9 innings. Toronto is now 85-54, 7½ games up in the American League Eastern Division.

The game turned with no one out in the top of the fourth when Rizzo, who is tied for 4th in the AL in total bases with 248, hit a 2-run home run. It propelled the Blue Jays into the lead, 2-0. "We've got a great group of guys," Rizzo said, "and we're having fun right now."

Seaton Cruises to Shutout

The Toronto Blue Jays rolled to an easy 5-0 win over the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium today. Leading the way to victory was starter Ross Seaton, who shackled the New York Yankees and held them scoreless on a 3-hitter.

The second biggest story of the night was the return of Jose Bautista into the Blue Jays lineup. The designated hitter in this game, he went 1-4 with two strikeouts. "Felt good to be back in the batters box," the 34-year old said after the game. Bautista missed most of 2015 with a torn labrum.

Streak Finally Over, Townsend Held Hitless
thestar.com
September 15th, 2015

Maybe it really is taboo to talk about a hitting streak before it's over. Hours after speaking to the press about his 22-game hitting streak, Minnesota left fielder Ed Townsend went hitless in 3 at-bats today at Target Field.

The sudden hitting drought came as the Twins took the 6-5 win over the Detroit Tigers. It has been the third longest hitting streak that ended this season behind his teammate Byron Buxton(28) and Troy Tulowitzki(26).

"Nope, it's not magic," Townsend said in his postgame press conference. "Nobody jinxed me. Streaks don't last forever. I've heard about it every day for weeks now. My roomie told me to get a hit before every game and wished me luck. I just ran out of hits."

Townsend's current batting average stands at .319 and he has chalked up 16 home runs and 63 RBIs.He spent three years in the independent league, selling shoes in the offseason, before the Twins brought him in on a minor league contract for the 2014 season.

News:
Angels SP Jered Weaver(32, 3.5*) threw eight innings of goose eggs on the scoreboard, allowing 5 hits, 0BB and striking out seven in a 3-0 win over the Mariners. With that win, the Angels stay in the Wild Card hunt and a 12-8 2.86 163K year in 28 starts by Weaver is a big reason why.

So, Teheran will be out with the flu and will not start in this three game set. That means Josh Johnson(R, 11-11 3.58) today. He was a liability last season, 11-13 4.64, but overall was worth the prospects through three seasons.

Jays Rally Late to Get Ailing Alvarez off Hook

The Atlanta Braves got a superb performance from pitcher Josh Johnson. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Toronto. The Blue Jays won the game, 5-3. In spite of the loss, Johnson was named the player of the game. He threw 6 innings allowing 3 runs. Toronto goes to 89-55. The win puts them 10 games up in their division.

Troy Tulowitzki was a key contributor to the win for the Blue Jays. In the top of the eighth with one out, the star shortstop stroked a solo home run to right field that made it 4-3 Toronto. He was 2 for 5 with a single, a home run, two runs scored and a RBI.

"Win or lose, we pick each other up in this clubhouse," Tulowitzki told the Toronto Star. He is batting .302 with 31 home runs and 90RBIs in 139 games. With that win, Toronto lowered their magic number down to nine.

The bad news for John Gibbons and his team: Henderson Alvarez left the game injured in the fourth after getting hit around for seven hits and three runs. "I do not want to speculate," Gibbons said. "We will wait until we have an official diagnosis."

Those injuries... hopefully it is not serious. Since the start of 2013, Alvarez only missed three weeks with a dead arm...

News:
Phillies SP R.A. Dickey(40, 4.5*) threw 8.1 dominant innings of 5-hit, 2BB and 9K ball, helping his team to a 2-0 shutout against the Nationals. The 2012 NL All-Star is 2-2 with a 3.64ERA since the trade deadline and 8-14 3.46 161K in 26 starts between BAL and PHI for the season.

The good news, it is not serious. Alvarez is day-to-day with a sore shoulder. Bad news, this one should hamper him for about a month, and it will influence his throwing... so he won't pitch in the regular season again... no risks here...more Bud Norris.

Blue Jays Lose to Braves, 4-1

Atlanta got an elite performance from starting pitcher Brandon Beachy in taking a 4-1 decision over the Toronto Blue Jays. He went six innings of 1-run ball, allowing four hits, three walks and struck out five.

"The effort we put into this one paid off," Beachy said. John Cornely picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 5-3. Tommy Milone was tagged with the loss. The Braves bumped their record to 85-61 with this latest triumph.

The Braves got a big at-bat from catcher Evan Gattis. For the game, Gattis went 2-3 with 2 singles. In the bottom of the seventh, with a runner on 2nd, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 38th hit of the season gave Atlanta a 2-1 lead.

Toronto had a number of good chances to get ahead in this game, but left 21 runners in base individually, including a leadoff triple by Julio Borbon in the first.

News:
The Reds ran over the Giants 12-1 and two players made the headlines in this one. RF Jay Bruce(28, 4.5*, .251-21-57 .775OPS) went out there and hit two home runs, going 3-3 4R 4RBI 2BB 2HR, and 3B Neftali Soto(26, 1.5*, .250-26-99 .716OPS) matched that with a 2-5 2R 5RBI 2HR night.

Edwin Leads Charge, Toronto Blasts Braves

The Toronto Blue Jays bested the Atlanta Braves, 14-3, at Turner Field. Edwin Encarnacion was named player of the game. He was 3-3 with a home run, a double, a walk, and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 3 times and driving in 3. The first-place Blue Jays, at 90-56, now lead their division by 10½ games.

It was a horrible day for Atlanta lefty Mike Minor who was out of the game in the third inning after allowing runs number five and six on a 2-run home run by Travis d'Arrnaud. Every Blue Jays starter got at least one hit tonight.

Toronto will look to preserve this torrid form when they host the 77-68 Red Sox and Jackie Bradley Jr.(.292-15-55 .828OPS) starting tomorrow.

Gregerson Blows Lead!

The Toronto Blue Jays got a sterling performance from pitcher Jhoulys Chacin, but the Red Sox still prevailed, 3-2. Chacin was named the player of the game in a losing cause. He threw 8 innings of 4-hit ball. Boston reliever Braden Kapteyn picked up the win, bumping his record to 1-2. Luke Gregerson was collared with the loss. The Red Sox bumped their record to 78-68 with this latest triumph.

The most critical at-bat came in the top of the ninth inning. With one out, Will Middlebrooks hit a 0-1 sinker from Luke Gregerson for a run-scoring single. It put Boston in front, 3-2. "We'll grab a cold one tonight and go after another win tomorrow," Middlebrooks said.

Luke Gregerson on the other hand was pretty frustrated with the game. "I'm so sorry for Jhoulys, wins have been hard to come by for him, and then I come in and blow the save," he said after the game.

Soler, Blue Jays Rough Up Red Sox Despite Injury Scares

The Toronto Blue Jays cruised to a 16-2 win over the Boston Red Sox at the Skydome today. Jorge Soler led the way, going 3-for-4 with 3 runs, 3RBIs, a walk, a double and a home run for Toronto. Toronto goes to 91-57. The win puts them 9½ games up in their division. Their magic number is down to 6.

Soler had an important at-bat with the bases loaded in the bottom of the first, when he hit a run-scoring single. The Blue Jays went on to win.

"I felt we were ready to go," said Toronto manager John Gibbons. "Our pregame was pretty good." They also collected some injuries today tho. Hector Santiago left the game in the first with what George Poulis called a "mild shoulder injury", and Julio Borbon suffered a mild groin strain running the bases and will be day-to-day for about six days.

Norris on a Roll, Rutledge Slams Door

Toronto Blue Jays starter Bud Norris was in a rhythm all game. He led his team to a win over the Boston Red Sox, 9-2.

The Blue Jays bumped their record to 92-57 with this latest triumph. Their magic number is down to four, however, they clinched a playoff berth with that win!

It took Toronto four innings to figure out Yovani Gallardo, but they inflated his pitch count before scoring two in the fifth inning. The sixth then was the beginning of the end when lefty Jose Mijares came in after a leadoff single, allowed a walk, a single, and a grand slam to Josh Rutledge.
