Graphics Card usage in menus

(Sorry for a weird post, not sure if it fits here.)

So I was playing around with perfect team and I noticed that my GPU temps had jumped up to about the level they hit when I'm playing a graphics intensive AAA game. I note perfect team here because there's obviously no games to manage and use the match engine for.

So my question is does OOTP use the GPU a lot in normal menus for some reason, or is my card going crazy? I'm not quite sure why a menu screen is making it run as hot as it does when playing Metal Gear V or whatever, this certainly isn't the case with Football Manager menus

EDIT: Forgot to mention that I opened up the monitor thing I have for my graphics card and the GPU clock jumped way up once OOTP loaded, so it's definitely being used for something by the game

make sure to vsync the FPS. set it to 60, if not, and it will help reduce GPU-load... especially if the gps is nice and new... you're probably hitting 300+FPS or something with a game like ootp.

if you don't use the 3d features of the game, in the main settings you can turn off opengl or 3d stuff completely i believe -- labeling i don't recall syntax of setting, but it is there, because i do it each release.

vsync should help... if not go back in ootp settings and reduce anti-aliasing to 2x or until you notice a difference in graphics quality and notch it back up one setting.

you could go into your graphics card software suite and change some thigns too... you can make a profile just for the game, if ati/nvidia type gpu. for "ootp18.exe" reduce certain features that are resource intensive and likely not even helpful for a game like ootp graphics..

sampling, aa, etc... google any term you don't know... make a choice.. check game... do 1 at a time and repeat for best and minimal changes needed, or do them all at once it doesn't matter.

i bet vsync alone may fix what you are seeing. then change sampling setting and AA -- in game first, then the gpu optiosn to further ratchet down performance to reduce heat.

running at 70-80C isn't a big deal (ati and nvidia vary from each other, check specs).... you run that hot all the time you will have to replace the thermal gel every 3-6months. the OEM's put way too much on and it's likely crappy at what it does, clean it off. pea-sized dollop will spread, don't mimic what you saw when you took heatsink off of the cpu or gpu.

you can also get a prgram like Dxtory... free? FPS limiter, and can ignore the screen capture vid capabilities. MSI Afterburner is a companion program that works with most ati/nvidia cards.. it also has FPS options and OC tools.

in future when that gpu starts showing its age, you just pop one of those on and lock FPS to 20-30 and squeeze out another year or 2 from it.
