Market size increases?

I disabled league evolution, and yet, following the 2027 season, my owner told me that our market size in Baltimore has increased from Below Average to Average. Is this supposed to happen? If so, why did it happen? We've had four straight playoff appearances, including WS wins in 2025 and 2026, and we would've had a third in 2027 if not for a rash of injuries. Is our success causing the market to grow? Does this mean we're stealing the Washington "Walgreens" Gnationals fans and market? If so, awesome

Market size is not static in OOTP and does not reflect what we think of as market size IRL.

it definitely ebbs and flows at least in part due to success/failure over time. maybe some randomness too?

i have 3 10-team divisions that don't play outside of division. so, the damage i inflict on those other 9 teams in my division has been catastrophic to their market size after 100-some years... (not saying it takes ~100 years).

it's a drastic difference visually when i go to Team Finances page and you can see all the market sizes listed and color-coded on 1 screen. the 2 other divisions maintained a distribution that i roughly started with... my division is decimated, lol. nearly all teams have decreased or unchanged.. i think 1 team has increased by more than "+1" out of 9. in the other 2 divisions there's basicalyl equal amounts of up and down movement with a similar distribution as when the league started.

it makes sense, if you think about it. if a team goes through a decade or more of futility, what happens to their local media contract value? it drops. that's exactly what market size controls in ootp.

If you want market sizes to stay realistic to real life, can you manually change back to those each season? If so, is this something you do first day of offseason, free agency, spring training?

Market size isn't connected to league evolution. Two entirely different things. Market size will change depending on the team's success, as well as other factors. You can turn off league evolution, you can't turn off market-size fluctuations.
