Nielsoncp's Ballpark Concepts and 3D Models

Since this project has grown quite a bit since I posted my original Portland post, I wanted to reorganize it into a more structured set-up that would make it easier to find the stadiums.

Also, I know there were a few posters that had ideas in the previous thread for potential stadiums. To help organize that process I put together a google form you can fill out if you have an idea for a stadium that you’d like to see in the game.

You can find the form here and the results and queue here – and if other stadium builders want to hop in on the fun, feel free to use this as a resource.

Putting your idea into the form won’t guarantee that it will get made, but I will take a look and see if I can do anything with it.

Below you’ll find my updated list of stadiums created so far by country.

United States

Boise, ID – Boise Cascade Ballpark - Zip File (Pictures)
Brooklyn, NYC, NY – MCU Park- Zip File (Pictures)
Bufalo, NY - Sahlen Field - Zip File (Pictures)
Charlotte, NC – BBT Ballpark- Zip File (Pictures)
Columbus, OH – Huntington Park -Zip File (Pictures)
Durham, NC – Durham Athletic Park- Zip File (Pictures)
Hartford, CT – Dunking Donuts Park- Zip File (Pictures)
Indianapolis, IN – Victory Field- Zip File (Pictures)
Las Vegas, NV -One Nevada Credit Union - Zip File (Pictures)
Louisville, KY – Louisville Slugger Field - Zip File (Pictures)
Memphis, TN – Autozone Park - Zip File (Pictures)
Nashville, TN – First Tennessee Park - Zip File (Pictures)
New Orleans, LA – Shrine on Airline - Zip File (Pictures)
Norfolk, VA - Harbor Park - Zip File (Pictures)
Oakland, CA - Howard Terminal Park - Zip File (Pictures)
Oklahoma City, OK - Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark - Zip File (Pictures)
Portland, OR – Portland Diamond Ballpark - Zip File (Pictures)
Sacramento, CA - Raley Field - Zip File (Pictures)
Salt Lake City, UT – Smith’s Ballpark - Zip File (Pictures)
San Antonio, TX – HEB Field at Nelson Wolff Park - Zip File (Pictures)
Tulsa, OK – ONEOK Field - Zip File (Pictures)
Worcester, MA – Polar Park - Zip File (Pictures)

Canada

Calgary, AB - Foothills Stadium - Zip File (Pictures)
Charlottetown, PEI - Memorial Field - Zip File (Pictures)
Ottawa, ON – RCGT Park - Zip File (Pictures)
Quebec City, QC – Stade Canac - Zip File (Pictures)
St. John's, NL - St. Patrick's Field - Zip File (Pictures)
Vancouver, BC – Scotiabank Park - Zip File (Pictures)
Winnipeg, MB – Shaw Park - Zip File (Pictures)

Also, all of these zip files have a templates folder that you can use to customize the park using GIMP (a freeware photo editing software.) You should be able to open up the templates, create a new .png or .jpg file, and copy over the original in the textures folder, and it should load into the game for you.

Sacramento, CA, USA - Raley Field

Sacramento has been one of the cities I've wanted to do for a while, so it was fun to finally get around to it. As usual, I took the field outline and added in a few features - unfortunately I couldn't find a way to put the kids area behind the right field bleachers that wouldn't take a couple hours to put together.

The park plays very pitcher friendly - the climate added a good bit to that when I put it into the Park Factors calculator, but in the Pacific Coast League it is one of the more pitcher friendly parks.

Great work here! Love the organization and the queue and the request form.

Just so you know, I already have an Edmonton Ballpark version that I made. It is in my post.

I also did raley field as well. I love seeing the different versions though

nice to see another taking up this great hobby

Calgary, AB - Foothills Stadium

Isedelyod gave me a few ideas in the form, one of which had a video link in it - you can find the story here: https://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/ml...all-hardships/. Pretty much baseball isn't surviving in Calgary because the summer is too cold and short and people don't want to sit outside. As a child of Milwaukee County Stadium, I understand. Hence - A retractable roof! (I'd really recommend it - it makes baseball much more enjoyable in April.)

The stadium plays very hitter friendly - practically Coors Field level friendly - so get your groundballers and/or strike out artists ready.

Oklahoma City, OK - Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark

This is from the previous thread, and I took a first run at it a couple of weeks ago and finally figured it out today. It's a pretty brick intensive complex (as the name indicates), so I had to use a few different brick textures to show the differences between the buildings in the complex.

The park plays relatively pitcher friendly in real life, so I made those adjustments in the park factors. It plays a bit friendlier to lefties thanks to the shorter porch in right.

Thanks for the encouragement! I think I'll push Edmonton a bit further down the queue for now then and work on some other files in the pipeline.

Also, thanks for the tutorials. If I'm stuck on a particular problem I often pull them up to take a quick look - you've gotten me out of a few jams so far.

St. John's, NL - St. Patrick's Field

Isedelyod posted about St. Patrick's field using the form, and after taking a look at it there were a couple of intriguing features. First, it was built by American GIs during World War II and has been in use ever since - apparently it's the largest field in Newfoundland. Second, the stadium has a lot of space around it - EXCEPT along the third base line. So, I got a bit creative, turned that into open space like there is in most outfields, and put seats around the rest of the field.

I used the park factors from eriqjaffe's park generator, and as you can see, true to form it's pitcher friendly and a home run desert. Feel free to adjust accordingly.

Also, this project has convinced me that all Canadian parks in real life should be indoors - take note Montreal.

Buffalo, NY - Sahlen Field

Apparently Buffalo was a contender for expansion teams in the 1990s, and to fit that possibility, they built their park to be expanded to over 35,000 fans pretty easily with the addition of a third deck - which made it easy to expand it to an MLB stadium. One of the other cool things about the stadium is the short area in left field - it's right next to a freeway, so I had to make a few adjustments in the model. I also experimented with a new dugout style in this model and the next one - let me know what you think.

Overall the park plays pretty neutral, with a slight preference for righty contact and lefty power.

Norfolk, VA - Harbor Park

Virginia Beach/Norfolk/Newport News were also in the running for multiple teams, including the relocating Nationals in 2004. Thanks to the great Stadium Pages site, I ran across this concept for a new stadium:

and combined it with the current field. It was a pretty straightforward project and one of the quicker ones to build.

The park is very pitcher friendly in real life - kind of like an east coast ATT/PacBell/SBC/Oracle? Park. I guess that's the advantage of that heavy sea air.

Charlottetown, PEI - Memorial Field

Isedelyod also sent me a suggestion for a nice public park on the edge of Victoria Forest in Charlottetown, PEI. I tried to preserve the "forest" in right field, and incorporate a couple of memorials that are a part of the actual field.

The park, like all open air canadian parks, plays pretty pitcher friendly. Feel free to get all the fly ball pitchers your heart desires if you're going to play in this field.
