Free Agent Problems

I've got two questions about free agency:

1. I had a type-B right fielder who was going to be a FA at the end of the season. His contract page said very clearly that he would be type-B. At season's end, though, he was a non-compensation FA. I didn't think that was possible. Explain?

2. Is there a way to restrict leagues from a free agent pool? I'm tired of the outside Japanese league swooping in and stealing my type-A and B FAs for no compensation, especially since they can then swing them back to teams in my league. I want to keep inter-league trading...

2: In the financial options of the league, uncheck allow free agents to leave league. You can do it in one or both.

The compensation list changes throughout the season because it is based on stats and ratings, which both change throughout the season. The list is supposed to be finalized upon conclusion of the season and remain static through the off season. So after the season it should not change. But during the season it will.

Yup, free agent types are finalized on the first day of the offseason. I noticed this at the conclusion of my most recent season when I only ended up with half the type a/b's I expected.

After a bit of testing I also noticed that free agent types are influenced quite a bit by the "AI player evaluation" settings, which makes sense I guess. If you prefer that ratings get ignored when comp is decided, you could change the evaluations to 100% stats, advance to the offseason, then change them back again. I don't know how heavily the evaluations are weighted, but I was capable of making some Type A's go to no-comp, and vice versa.
