Tryout signings run amok

Here's an interesting one. In my historical 1955 league I set it to no expansion, no expansion draft, no draft rookies, etc. Well expansion still happened, but that's not the story.

The original six teams kept most their players on their teams signed, but free agents were not signed but rather put on one-game tryout signings.

By the time 1967 rolled around, all of the new teams were signing completely new teams full of one-day tryouts, with full turnover every few games. (Ok teams signed maybe 4 players each to 1 yr contracts)

Players were playing for six or more teams in one season - but not in blocks; they would be signed to a different team every few days, then go back to a team they were on before, etc.

Meanwhile the original six had full squads of over-30-yr olds and couldn't keep up.

In the final between Oakland and Philadelphia, Ken Dryden played goal for both teams in the same series! Bobby Hull and Bobby Orr also played both sides!

Stan Mikita won the scoring race because he played in 93 games, lucky guy. Bill White played for 8 different teams on his way to the Defenseman of the Year award.

You get the picture. Fun to watch but not likely by design.

(It was Philly who won the Cup over Oakland btw.)
