How does bidding work?

There was one bid for 100 so I bid 101 and was outbid and now there are 2 bids. Can you bid a max?

if a player shows 0 bids and a value of 100, you can bid the max amount you're willing to pay right off the bat (say 500)...

the screen will only show 100 as the current bid.

if someone comes behind you and bids 150, it will jump to current bid of 151 (still yours) as your max bid is higher than what they offered.

Really ? Why wouldn't it put your bid of 500 as the highest bid ?

it won't show the highest bid, but it's in there.... highest bid stays hidden so someone can't just come through, see that and bid 1 point more... they can keep bidding higher and higher until they get it, if that's what they want to do; but it makes them work for it (which is kind of nice so that those last second bidders (like me ) can't drop a bid with 5 seconds left and always get it... sometimes my bid isn't high enough and someone else gets it as the auction ends before I can drop another bid)

So you're telling me that the starting/highest bid column means absolutely nothing ?

How does the game decide whether a bid is hidden or not ?

works like this: Player - Joe Shlabotnik - starting bid = 100 (no buy-now price)

-I bid first and offer 500 (max I'm willing to pay)
-screen shows: highest bid = 100

-you come by and bid 101 (trying to bid 1 more than the current bid showing)
-screen updates: highest bid = 102 (still mine)

-you bid again and offer 300
-screen updates: highest bid = 301 (still mine)

-daves comes by and really wants Joe Shlabotnik, so he offers 1000
-screen updates: highest bid = 501 (now daves, as it's 1 more than my max offer earlier; but it's not going to tell anyone his max bid was 1000)

make sense? (you don't have to like it/agree with it/etc; but just an understanding of how it works will do wonders for winning auctions and your own sanity... I speak from experience )

Oh I get it now that make a lot of sense.

Thanks for taking the time to answer !!

e/ :

Say you bid 500 on a 100 starting price auction and no one else put a bid on it, does the card sell for 100 or 500 ?

It'll sell for 100.

One thing to note, when you make that 500 bid, that amount is deducted from your pp account. After the bid ends, you get 400 refunded back to you as 'change'. It's like making a security deposit.

The thing I don't quite agree with is if you bid 200, the current leading bid is you at 100, and I bid 150, your winning bid should be 151 not my 150. Just saying.

Can I update my bid? Say I bid 600 and am winning at 400. Can I update my bid to 750 without affecting my current high bid?

If you change your bid to 750, that will be your new high bid. I don't understand the question.

Current high bid wins the tie, so he only has to go to 150.

Will 400 remain the high bid if I update?

Oh I see, yes it will still show 400 to other bidders.
