Suggestion
In one pitch mode if there is a stolen base attempt don't say the new batter into the box is and selected stats again, for the batter who has already been there for 2/3 pitches.

Reason
Ruins immersion

Priority
Medium to High

Suggestion:
Throw late to a base on a bunt...could be second, third or home.
Also throw late to a base trying for a force out on a ground ball.
Also fail to get a runner at a base on a non-force situation.

Example:
Robinson bunts it down the third base line...
Berra scoops it and goes to third...
Not in time!
Reese is safe at third and the Dodgers have the bases loaded.

A ground ball hit to short...
Reese gloves it deep in the hole...
Makes a quick throw to second...
But not in time to get the runner...
Everybody is safe. It will be a base hit for Berra.

high hopper hit to Reese...
He's going to third base...
Cox has it and tags Berra...
But they don't get him, he slid in under the tag.
Kubek will get a fielder's choice on that play.

Reason:
It happens occasionally in baseball. It should be in the game.

Priority:
Medium (it should be in the game)

To expand:

Suggestion:

- Same thing for wild pitches, passed balls, and pickoffs. You know one of those four things are going to happen if the batter's stats don't show up right away in one pitch mode.

Reason:

- I don't like knowing what's going to happen before it does

Priority:

- Medium

Suggestion:
Give team totals occasionally during the game: end of the third, sixth, ninth and every third inning in extra innings, 12th, 15th, 18th, etc.

Example:
We have played three innings so far.
Totals for the Yankees: 4 runs on 4 hits, no errors and 3 men left on base.
Boston has 2 runs, 3 hits, 1 error and 1 runner left on base.

At the end of the sixth, the Red Sox lead the Yankees 7-4.
Boston has 7 runs, 9 hits, 1 error and has left 5 men on base.
while New York has chalked up 4 runs, 6 hits, no errors and have stranded 5 baserunners.

After nine inning of play Boston and New York have played to a 7-7 tie.
The Red Sox have 7 runs, 11 hits, 1 error and have stranded 6 baserunners.
The Yankees totals are 7 runs, 10 hits, 1 error and they have left 7 on base.
We now go to extra innings.

Reason:
It is often done in a broadcast.

Priority:
Low (but it would be nice to have)

Scoreboard Watching

Suggestion:
The PBP could make mention of out of town scores for critical games expecially late in the season. Maybe a once a game mention for final scores and more regular updates for critical games that are in progress at the same time.

Reason: Immersion into this fictional universe. It would feel more real if you get the feeling that their are several other fictional games going on at the same time as yours.

Importance:
Low

Suggestion
Allow players to occasionally make mental mistakes like forgetting how many outs there are in an inning, failing to run hard on a ball they thought would leave the yard, throwing to the wrong base, etc.

Reason
These kinds of mistakes happen all the time in real baseball. Though they don't show up as errors in the box score, they can and do impact the outcome of ballgames. Including them would not only make the game more realistic, it would further bring life and character to the PbP.

Priority
Low

Suggestion
During game replays, having some info show up in the player photo-bar, like it does when a game is getting played out. For example, having a player's fielding rating show up on the bar under his photo-name graphic, when he's out on the field; and having a runner's speed, etc., show up on his graphic when he's on base.

Reason
  • The main reason would be to add to the comprehension of what's happening during the game. If an outfielder is making spectacular play after spectacular play, you could look at his info and see that he's super-highly-rated. Or when subsitutions are made late in a game, it would be obvious that they're defensive subs, if they have high defensive ratings. And when a runner with a "1" speed and "2" base stealing gets thrown out, you could look at the situation and say "Why did he try to steal? *groans*" It would just add to one's understanding of what's happening on the field during the game.
  • A second reason is to spice up the game display during a replay. Although the field and the players do appear, the whole screen is rather bland, with a lot of blank space, for example under the players' photo on their on-field graphic, and below the lineup where a player's data is usually displayed when one is playing out a game. I'd like to see the same data on-screen during a replay as one sees when playing out a game. The mechanism for causing both to happen seems as if it would be similar, although I said something about this on another forum, and someone replied that it would be hard to include all that data into the replay file, so I understand if it can't be done.
Priority
Low, relative to gameplay. But for those of us who are in online leagues, watching game replays is at the heart of the game experience.

Make saves available in the middle of the game.

Can play a few innings and then come back to the game.

Suggestion

Play by play language has improved tremendously and its contributors have put in a fine effort.

But, a probably complete redo of play by play is needed.

Reason

The current method of play by play is doomed to fail to meet the standard of matching the timing and delivery of real life play by play no matter how much work is done on the language.

The reason is that the game does not parse the action in the order and timing that really occurs on the field. It generally fails to handle concurrent events very well. For instance, the time for the announcer to say something about a line drive to an infielder is way different than that of a high fly to the outfield. To get a real life tone, these timings must be considered. The outfielder retrieving the ball, the runner going into third, etc need quick comments as they are concurrently happening. Some comments must be brief, others can be longer. And some things have to be said in retrospect, after the action. Some of the play description might be left to a second voice perhaps, the color commentator, who can also be used for additional comments or mention of statistics which should not interrupt as the play is unfolding.

Priority
Low. But eventually high to make this a top notch game in every respect.

Play By Play

Suggestion: Return to the online version where GM's can watch the game being played live online.

Reason: This will make Online League post season play more fun!

Priority:
High, because you want to continue to seperate from all other games.

I really love the new feature that allows us to view a replay of the game following an on-line-league sim but I wish you would take the pick off throws out of these.

Reason

There are way too many of these and they add nothing when viewing a replay.

Priority

I do like the commentator idea. While I don't necessarily think that you need to alter the play by play all that much from commentator to commentator (that would be quite the headache), but it would be cool to have fictional play by play guys created and employed by the team with appropriate face gen pictures. Also, have the color guy be a former player in the league, generally a former player for that team. I would love to see some former players eventually become the color guys for my team's broadcasts. Gives another route for retired players to go aside from coaching.

More Crowd Roar

Suggestion
Please include crowd roar when the hometeam gets a hit, HR, steals a base successfully and scores.

Reason
Like in real baseball. Right now there is little reaction from the crowd when these things happen. Absolutely kills the atmosphere.

Priority
High

Suggestion
Allow managers to "green light" a base runner, so that he can run on any pitch during an AB.

Reason
Stealing while simming AB's is clunky. It forces you into pbp mode and forces the batter to take.

Priority

Suggestion
Provide a way to see player's exact fatigue level, without opening each player's profile.

Reason
It's difficult to manage a bullpen with the crude information column indicators. There's a significant gap between 100% and 'slightly tired' that would be valuable to see.

Priority

Suggestion
I'd like to be able to control the pitching strategy of my team (intentional walk, pitch around, etc.) without setting infield and outfield depth. I think depths should be handled with the defensive strategy option.

Reason
I don't think pitching and defensive strategy were divided appropriately.

Suggestion: Make a better encyclopedia.

Why: Stats are one of the driving forces of the game. As it stands, it's difficult to watch players climb up the all time lists the way things are now.

Priority: High...it's baseball, and Stats are the flavor of the game!

ellipses

SUGGESTION: At the end of nearly every line of text (all those not ending with a period or exclamation point) there is an ellipsis (…). Don't do that.

REASON: An ellipsis has a meaning, and you're not not using it properly. It's distracting and detracts from reading the text. And don't replace them with something else! Just let each line hang, which would make it more like a radio play-by-play.

PRIORITY: High. This is seriously pissing me off. I even tried turning the p-b-p off entirely in order to get away from it, but that was so boring I only lasted two batters.
