This suggestion thread is designed to collect suggestions for the next version of OOTP, on the following topic:

News and Text Engine

Includes
- Features and suggestions related to in-game news and the XML text engine

Excludes
- Play-by-play stuff should go in the play-by-play thread

Instructions
We will use this thread to collect suggestions on the above topic. Later on, we hope to present this information back to the community in a way that would allow you to vote and prioritize certain features.

If you would like to participate, here are the rules!

Only 1 suggestion per post.
Suggestions must be on-topic for the thread.
Constructive, non-inflammatory suggestions only.
No comments on others' suggestions are necessary. That means, we don't need 15 posts in the thread saying "Great idea!" or "I agree!"
Please don't link to other forum threads as your way of making suggestions. ("My suggestion can be found HERE.") If it's important enough to you that you want it in this thread, then it should be important enough to put it in the format I've asked for here!
You can certainly post suggestions that conflict with or build upon earlier suggestions.
Mockups are welcomed, they really help Markus see what you're interested in accomplishing.

SUGGESTION: When in the post-season, mention not only how player did in regular season, but also so far in post-season.

REASON: Realism.

New tokens for News stories and, if applicable, for the PBP, too:

Milestones for batters and pitchers (Hits, HR, RBIs, SBs, R, Wins) showing how many players have accomplished the milestone
- "He is the 10th player to hit 500 home runs."
- "he is the 10th pitcher to win 200 games."

Reason
It would improve and expand the News and PBP content.

"This is the first time Tampa Bay has played in the World Series."

Suggestion
News stories for long games (maybe 15+ innings), high-scoring games (maybe 20+ runs), and players with great game scores (85+, don't actually show the game score though, just use it for deciding which games to report)

Reason
All that's in the news now are shutouts, 5 hit games, 3 HR games, and no-hitters. This would add some variety.

Suggestion: New news story categories, including:
- Gain/loss in popularity for local player
- Gain/loss in morale level for popular player (right now there are "player X wants out of city Y" stories but nothing about "star X is really happy to be in city Y"; ideally, I'd also like to see the reason for the latest gain/loss in morale)
- Owner gives manager vote of confidence (a sure sign you're about to be fired)

Reason: Morale and popularity are right now a couple of bits that are just there in the game. People don't think about them too much, I don't think. Add in a couple news stories per month about them and they might become a bigger priority, particularly if my other suggestion about FM-style media interaction is added in (so you could tell a whiny player to suck it up or a happy guy that he's appreciated; these interactions could cause the players to gain or lose additional morale depending on their own mental ratings)

Priority: Medium. Again, if it works for FM...

Token for HOF inductee giving the number that have been inducted.

HOF - "He is the 45th member of the Southern Association Hall of Fame."

Reason:
Info that should be given in the News announcement for HOF.

Manager's name team #1 - "Yankees manager Joe Torre has been fired."
Manager's name team #2 - "Dodger manager Joe Torre commented with a big, huge grin, "Yes, it looks like they made a mistake in getting rid of me."

Make sure they can be used in a news story so each manager can be quoted.
Use the manager's name in the PBP, too.

Improve the News.

Name could be used in a story only involving his team.

Also could be used in a story involving two teams, as in a trade.
