Minor League/Special League Improvements
I would like to see a fresh approach taken with the minor leagues. The minors leagues as they exist today are lacking some of the configurability that exists in real life.
Developmental Leagues - These leagues are not necessarily tied to a single (or any) Major League affiliate but rather exist to help develop the skills for young players by providing better competition and structure. A development league could exist with only 8 teams which draw talent from 32 major league franchises. Each team would be given an allotment of spots on one or more teams. The result is that young players have more chances to play than just the limited number of games available in the low minors. Complete control over minor league teams - Expand the minors by allowing for finances, managerial input into promotions/demotions, etc. rather than simply setting lineups for the minor leagues. Complete rosters - Regardless of the complexity, teams should always consist of a proper roster with adequate pitching and position players. Even if it is necessary to auto-generate enough scrub talent at the beginning of the season to fill out the roster, levels like Rookie League and Short Season A should not be left with rosters containing only 9 players who all happen to be catchers. In a complementary role are the occasional special leagues that come together for specific events every few years like the WBL and the Olympics. It would be nice to have Olympic rosters that automagically draft from the existing Major League rosters and play in an olympic style tournament. Same for the WBL, really. |
