Radio Play by play
Not sure if this would use too much memory, but what about an audio portion of the play-by-play. I'm assuming that coding the audio would be much less time than trying to code video. Make it a radio broadcast!

I've been advocating something like this for a while. We might be a few versions away from anything along these lines, but I hope that once the basics are all finally addressed, we'll get some more eye/ear candy.
Of course, we'd need to have some kind of phonetic guide to help the "announcer(s)" pronounce the names of players, teams, nicknames, cities, stadiums, etc., especially considering OOTP's global scope. But I think simply having a field where we could manually enter the phonetic pronunciation of a name (on the player and team profile screens) would be sufficient. This could be the next step in OOTP's sensory evolution after FaceGen! I definitely think it would add a lot to the in-game experience.

I personally think this would get pretty irritating after an inning or two. Hearing some guy recycling the same thing over and over. I prefer to just have the "sounds of the game" as if you were at the ballpark, rather than sitting at home listening to a game.
What I mean is, the cheering (perhaps a little more variety of cheering would be great. I know Padresfan has a couple of mods) and maybe some music playing a bit more often than it does. Maybe even have the announcer come on over the stadium's loudspeaker, saying "Now pitching, Mike Mussinaaaaaa." But I dunno about having a play-by-play radio-style.

Are you willing to pay more for OOTP?
These are the top open source options on Source Forge. If you want a good laugh, take a listen. I would pay Markus not to put this in the game. sSpeak: SamplesThis one is pretty good, if you want the guy on Prozac overdose: AT&T Labs Text-to-Speech: DemoIt also costs $49 for a non-commercial license. I'm certain the cost goes down greatly for a commercial licensing for a bulk set of users. Hypothetical, would you pay $50 or $60 dollars for OOTP rather than $40 for really lousy voice play by play? |
