Silly News Articles
This interview was posted, after star 1B Andy Walt hit his 600th career home run in the POTD league:
"As soon as I hit it, I knew it was gone. I was happy to move on. Now I can go and have some fun. It is a weight lifted off my shoulders," Walt told the press. He admitted just how much pressure he had been feeling. "Especially every time you'd get out of the hotel, everybody would say, 'Hey, when are you going to hit it?'" I think this is extremely boring, it's so incredibly cliched, what's the point of having it? I think the whole focus of the automatically generated news articles should be humorous... I mean, it's not real, so at least it should be extremely silly, otherwise why would anyone want to read it? So, really I think you guys should shift the focus of the game-generated news articles to humour. Maybe if some people are so uptight and retarded that they want to read these ridiculously bland articles, then make it an option you can turn off: Silly news articles: on or off... there... I mean, there's already a little bit of it, with the silly injury reports like when a player hurts himself while chasing after his girlfriend on a beach... I think that's good, but there should be loads more, it should be all over the place... there should be not a single serious news article... like, 600th career home runs and the player will say something like oh yea, but really my life's dream was to be an accountant, or anything really absurd or like a player signs with a new team during the winter and the GM will say "well, we really were hoping to sign someone better, but he was the only one we could afford, I guess we'll just have to bear with him..." or the player will say like "the GM drugged me and next thing I knew I was in the hotel spa wearing a jockstrap on my head and a copy of the signed contract in my butt..." of course it doesn't have to be exactly like that, but you get the idea... I just think the news articles are an unused value slot, so you need to plug some value in there... I guess it would be hard to get someone to write all that stuff for you with quality, but you could always take contributions from the forum here and make your selection, I'm sure there's enough silly people to write a few hundred thousand words of gibberish... I am imagining also a parody of Scott Boras making appearances in the news articles... |

You can use the xml to write these all yourself. Just go to:

Yea, I know I can edit the files, but I don't want to. I'm suggesting it not because I want it for myself, but because I believe it will be an improvement upon the game. If I were to edit my own files and then play them to myself, do you think I would laugh at my own jokes over and over again? You're just really missing the point completely...
You are such a kind human being with such wonderful argumentation skills, I am elated to know that I have shared my words with someone of your brilliant eloquence. Thank you. It blows my mind, I just can't even begin to tell you how absurd and backwards your words are... I mean, it shows such a fundamental deficiency that there is just no hope in this life of ever bringing our discourse to a level playing field. This really makes me wonder why I spend my time with this, if here I must play peers with such low quality of mind. It just doesn't seem sensible most of the time, pardon me. |

Could you lose the browbeating, please? You're still somewhat of a new poster and here you are trying to intimidate people for disagreeing with your desire to turn the game into what you yourself admits is silly. As others have pointed out, if you really think there's significant interest in what you're asking for then start a group and do it yourself. I'm sure an amazing amount of work goes into the XML and if the group that currently does it likes it the way it is then I don't think others should try to pressure them with condescending words into doing it another way. Make your suggestion and if it doesn't fly then if you really want to get a group together and do it yourself.
Also, please don't use words like retarded here. They're insulting and hurtful words to some people. Who knows when one day you might become somehow disabled.

The game including silly or otherwise humourous material does not make it a joke, I mean look at Metal Gear Solid, it's full of comedy in it, and it's definitely not a joke... so his claim is simply not justifiable, and indeed it is aggressive and designed to intimidate me for disagreeing with him.
But obviously I was way in excess there in my reaction. Sorry to other members here in the community who don't need me to go and dismiss everyone like that. Also I'm sorry about using the word "retarded" in the original post, even before anyone replied. Maybe I will remember more often to keep my words better trimmed after that.
