Ballpark Factors vs. Dimensions

Love the game. Have OOTP be the engine for a game that has in-game graphics, and I think you would have the baseball video game franchise of all time.

In the meantime, I feel that ballpark factors could be generated automatically when the user inputs park dimensions. It would be of even greater value if foul ground were one of the considerations/factors of the ballparks. Maybe distance to the backstop, distance from 3B/1B to out of play, etc.

Thanks.

Cool idea, and it's been suggested before. I think it may be easier said than done though.

going from outfield dimensions, foul ball area, "sight" (ability to see balls due to ballpark design leading to higher batting average), length of infield grass, and stadium elevation to new relative value of batting average, hits, doubles, triples, home runs, and errors has been available for years in Baseball Mogul, a "similar" baseball manager simulation game

I say similar advisedly since in general OOTP has much, much more user configuration settings. but in this case OOTP relies on the user to supply the new relative rankings, not the ballpark data. if you also own BBM just open up the game and build a new stadium. then take the relative ranking numbers and put them into OOTP. (there may be a few relative rankings OOTP does not allow the user to change)

--------------

OOTP does not need to have realistic graphics of actual players in a ballpark to improve its game interface dramatically. as of OOTP 2007/ver 8 there was no audio associated with the game and an inability to set the action to "autoscroll mode" (similar to BBM). by autoscroll mode I mean you start the game and hit a button that says "sit back as general manager". from then on the game plays out at a speed you control with an additional setting. to be a GM in OOTP 2007 requires you to continually hit enter to advance to the next batter or to note an in game change of some sort. there is no associated audio, even of just crowd reaction to the pitch or the sound of a bat hitting the ball (as is found in many simple bb flash type online games)

if this has changed by version OOTP 2011 or is going to be in OOTP 2012, please post a reply in this thread and I will stand corrected

11 does have sound, crowd reactions, umpires, some music but yes u still have to hit a button after each AB or pitch depending on mode, unless I am wrong on that aspect but i play 1 pitch mode.
