Enhanced free agent type calculations

Ive had players coming off MVP level seasons leave for free agency with no compensation whatsoever. It doesnt seem realistic.

That can happen in real life. In order for a club losing a free agent to be eligible for compensation, it has to offer the player arbitration by a specified date (currently Nov. 23rd), and then the player subsequently reject the offer of arbitration (by Nov. 30th) and sign with another club.

Sometimes a major league club won't make that offer of arbitration because of the potential salary the player would get if he does end up accepting arbitration. And from time to time a player will accept arbitration rather than becoming a free agent and signing elsewhere.

That isnt the point. I realize the issue with offering arbitration to get compensation.

The point is a lot of times a player that looks like he should be a type A ends up with no compensation. Ive had players hit .310/.400/.550 with 36 HR end up leaving with no compensation.

I know Elias bases it on the last 2 seasons but I cant think of a single instance in major league baseball where a player hit like that and wasnt at least a Type B.
