Leave Starter In if tired if he has a shutout going
I've seen this a few times and have just had it happen in a recent game:
Opposing starter has pitched a brilliant game and is leading 6-0 in the 9th. After getting the 2nd out and no-one on base, I assume he got tired and a reliever was brought in to complete the game and get the last out. In RL, the pitcher would pretty much always stay in to get the shutout even if he's tired. He would probably stay in until he gives up a run, or the game enters a save situation or until he becomes exhausted. I just checked the All time shutout leader boards, and although it's not conclusive, the list is quite heavily populated with pitchers which I have had on my teams. |

Better yet, leave a pitcher in the game who has a no-hitter going. I've seen many situations where a pitcher who had a no-hitter going was pulled after eight innings. In some cases, the would-be no-hit pitcher was pulled in the ninth—and even with one out remaining on at least one occasion.
