Don't change button assignments based on situation, redux

The other night I was holding a runner on first (3) for many pitches when the third out was recorded. Because of crowd noise I was having trouble communicating with my leadoff batter, Alex Avila, who was then retired on the first pitch of the next inning, and while I admire his hustle and determination, in no way do I want Alex Avila bunting for a base hit (3).

Here's my post from when I asked for it (over and over) for 12:

"If I'm in pitch-by-pitch mode, and button 4 is to steal 2nd base, it should ALWAYS be for steal 2nd base and shouldn't change to something else just because there are two strikes on the hitter.

If you don't want to make that option available, grey it out, don't give it to something else! Real pet-peeve of pitch-by-pitch players, I'd say."

Don't change button assignments based on situation!!!

I'm also considering PMing Markus and Andreas every day until release to make sure this squeaky wheel gets the grease.

I agree. We need consistency in how the keystrokes work. I know that when I'm playing, my mind is entirely in the moment and my decision. I don't always think to look at the grid to see how the options have changed.

I'd also like a confirmation dialog for some of the keys.

Last night I did something inadvertently that I don't believe has ever happened in baseball: I intentionally walked the lead off batter in the top of the first! ; )

Other than for the Intentional Walk button, which buttons do you want confirmation dialogs for?

I was really surprised to see this go unfixed this year. It's something I think everyone would like to see. I doubt anyone is clamoring to keep it how it is.

For me, probably just that and "Hit Batter," since those are the two that lead directly to the batter getting on base.

Make it optional and it's a +1 from me.

I really would like to see this also. It is something that leads me to make critical mistakes while managing a game.

These are not mistakes I made, along the lines of a bad decision. But mistakes in interacting with the game interface, because it is an extremely poor interface!.

I play out every game. This happens all the time to me and is very frustrating to lose a game because of this!

Basically, could you imagine reading in the game manual:
Button 1 means perform action "X".
Unless there's a change in count on the batter, then Button 1 means action "Y".
Unless there's a runner on base, in that case Button 1 means action "Z".

This is just plain confusing to the user and very counter intuitive.

I give batting option commands about a hundred times per game. I'd like to make the choice of which button to press without really thinking. The focus in my mind should be on which action I would like to take. The consideration of which button I need to press to take the desired action should require no thought, because it is always the same, and I have an automatic response once I decide which action I would like to take. I'd like to know that when my player is at bat, button 1 always means the same thing. This is only reasonable.

If some situations require different options, then have buttons 7,8,9 include the optional situational plays (while 1 thru 6 remain constant).

If a certain play is not valid, then have button 3 produce an error or popup saying invalid option, or perform no action, while keeping the button 3 placeholder.

Well, after holding a runner on first, then the batter hitting into a double play, I threw a bases-empty pitchout on the next pitch.

This didn't make it in again.
