Lightbulb Game immersion = STATS (imho)

I've written on this before (you can find the thread here) and because I just read a thread that was asking about IMMERSION in OOTP... I would like to bring to the table, again, this feature/idea. Before I bring up the feature, I would like to support my request with the following:

I'm going out on a limb here and speaking on behalf of the customer base, but I think that most of us buy this game for three basic reasons (assuming already it's a great game of course):

1. We love baseball
2. We love stats
3. We love to micro-manage

After all, OOTP is a FE micro-manage simulator that gives us, the users, countless options to run our baseball universe, disect stats, and manage our teams any way we'd like. ****ING AWESOME!!

When it comes to IMMERSION in a game like this... there are three basic things I look for:

1. Stats
2. How the stats are presented in the FE (ie: layout)
3. More stats

Once I've spent hours/days/weeks setting up my league and I start simming or playing out my games... I want to be able to get right down to the DNA of each player/coach/teams statistical output... in any situation, at any time... ANY permutation. For me... THIS EQUALS IMMERSION.

I can literally spend 100's of hours combing through stats (IMMERSION!). Boxscores, how players did in the countless situations a baseball game presents... and I want to see graphs, a cleaner layout... and most important, I don't want to be limited (as far as my imagination goes) with the stats I have access too. Similar to when I'm MLB.com or surfing the net for baseball stats, records, etc.

The OOTP engine is incrediable. However, for me, there is one area this game still falls short on... that is STATISTICAL IMMERSION and STATISTICAL LAYOUT. Yes, I get all the basic stats... and a fixed view of these stats are displayed (which I personally think is a bit cluttered - think of the screen where you can view how a batter did vs. a particular pitcher. I HATE the way this is presented to me. I have to scroll through 100's of pitchers trying to find ONE guy... whereas if I queried it... BAM, there it would be displayed all neat and pretty. Plus it would save me the time of scrolling through 100's of pitchers when all I want to know (during a playoff run) is how my lead-off hitter did vs. a particular pitcher during the regular season, at home, at night.

For any good GM to make a logical game time decision, they need data. Stats. And should NOT be limited what they want to know OR how the data is displayed...

So, without beating a deadhorse here, I would like to see SOMETHING along the lines of a STATSLAB incorporated into v13. And to accompany this invaluable IMMERSION feature, I would also like the ablity to query ANY statistical permutation I can think of... eg:

Joe Andrews, 34, playing DH for the Oakland A's, in 2042, batted .373 with 27 HR's 77 RBI's, after the All-Star break, vs. Detriot Tigers, batting 3rd in the lineup when a RHP (right handed pitcher was on the mound), during night games, at Tiger Stadium.

Or being able to just query who has the most HR's of all the first round draft picks over the past 10 years.

I can go on and on... as I'm most can...

THIS my baseball loving friends is what creates IMMERSION for a game like OOTP.

He's most assuredly right. The statistical presentation is really kind of weak.

I agree one hundred percent. Stats = immersion in a game like this! There has to be a better way of looking through the stats that I want to see at one time on a players profile then having to click back and forth, between profile stats (basic stats), pitching stats 2, or pitching stats vs.. Drives me insane that each player I have to click 3-5 times to see all of the stats I want to see, when I should be able to edit it and just be able to see the stats I want to see. I know you can do this through different views, but not in the actual players profile you can't.

Given that the game has to account for a 1024x768 resolution, presentation of data is always going to be a challenge. I think some measure of going through different pages or tabs to see all the data involved is unavoidable.
