More realistic FA negotiations
What I would like to have in OOTP13 would be more realistic FA negotiations. The current system is annoying to me, especially in online leagues.
When you want to offer a contract to a FA you get his demands, i.e. 9mill./year over 4 years. You meet his demand, after the next sim you get an update, something like "I like your offer, but St. Louis offered a better deal. If you pay me 10mill./ over 4 years I think I will sign with you." ... and so on. What I would like to have would be more realism, something like "I have other options, your chance of signing me would be better if you offered me 10mill./year" without any specification of what other teams are bidding on that FA. That would keep this thing interesting by not knowing what teams are involved, how many or if there really is another team involved ... I would like it to have it the way the Pujols-signing went on - when probably nobody expected the Angels to be in there at the end. To manage that it also should be possible to make a new offer BEFORE the FA rejects or gives you an update. When you offer a deal to a FA, you have to wait what happens - when you have second thoughts "9mill./year may not be enough, I think I will have to offer 10.5mill./year to get him" you can't do it ... that should be possible. Or did I miss something ??

I feel like this has been addressed in other posts in suggestions in some places. And there doesn't always need to be a mystery team. I just want it more difficult to sign the guys I want. I feel like in solo play I can just get anybody I ever want. I would like guys to have some teams they are simply more likely to play for then others. Based on where they are from, teams being winners, etc. Based on the players personality. If they care about winning, they will go to a team where there is a position hole for them and the team is likely to win with them. If they are greed based, they just want the top dollar. It doesn't feel like that's how it works. I would also like the computer to offer out more minor league offers from other teams. Just seems too easy to get those guys. I wouldn't mind the idea of agents, or of a process where the guy simply has very little patience to talk with you because he just isn't interested in your team or because he feels like you have another player on your team that would impact his playing time. Something more realistic, but not over bearing. Where it is more difficult to get the guys I want in solo play.

I play solo fictional leagues and personally I would like to see the FA system stay as is. I like getting most of my players without having to wait until preseason to get them. It seems in OOTP12 that it is easier to get your players and you can get them earlier than past versions. I like to have my roster set by the 1st of January so hopefully the system will stay as is. Just my opinion.

I would like the off-season to work more like it does in real life, with a date for arb offers, non-tender candidates join free agents etc. But that might be too much to add. |
