Oh, no doubt about that! I've been on the Joe Mauer bandwagon for well over a year now. I also was a fan of the idea of moving him to 3B if at all possible in order to help his career out... what with all the knee problems. I just wanted to shoot down some unrealistic expectations.

I would never ever guarantee a catcher winning a batting title... as I said... 2nd half slide is generally pretty prevalent.

Also, Joe Mauer is absolutely AWESOME in MVP Baseball 2005.

I always pick him in the 3rd round of my fantasy drafts.

I didn't say he'd end up with .400, I just said he'd get up to .400 sometime this year. .

Let's get these trade negotiations started.

I was in favor of moving him to third too. I wouldn't be suprised if he gets injured a few more times that he gets put in the hot corner. It's fun watching him catch though, he's got a real gun.

He should really stay at catcher. He is one of the best defensive catchers in the league, and his knee is almost back to normal.

Why? We have Redmond who is a great hitting and defensive catcher (and strangley, despite his mere 97 PA's, is 5th on the team in VORP). He's about as good as Mauer with the glove, and with Joe at third we could DH Punto and finally keep Lew Ford (and Ruben Sierra) out of the lineup, who happens to be one of the main reason's the Twins are barely above .500. Mauer would also be able to be more consistent and keep his hitting up if he plays third, a far less demanding position than catcher.

I don't see why we wouldn't.

I wouldn't make the switch right now, I think the last thing you want to do is make a player hitting .392 switch positions in the middle of a red-hot streak. Maybe if he starts to cool down and show fatigue.

Yeah, that's probably the best idea. If he gets injured again and they don't move him to third when he comes back, I may just poop on Ron Gardenhire and the entire Minnesota Twins organization. I don't want him to end up like a Mark Prior!

I don't see the Twins moving Mauer for another couple years. I think people would go into an uproar if they moved him here in Minnesota. I don't know about Redmond being our starting catcher, but if he's it; I sure wouldn't be complaining.

As for Punto DHing, I wouldn't like that. I think that we could easily get a better DH than Punto. However, Punto is excellent in the field. Why not just stick Mauer at DH and make him the DH for the Twins. I know he is great in the field, but why not make him the backup catcher. He could play forever if he was DH 100% of the time. Of course, I'm sure he would hate it though, he's just to modest.

If he stays at catcher, he got a better chance of being someone special. There are good reasons why Piazza insisted catching.

Playing third really doesn't take away from his chances of being special. It isn't like there is a huge list of great third basemen either.
